Comparison vid showcases similarities between Resident Evil 4 and 5

There's an old adage that goes, "if it ain't broke, don't fix it." GameTrailers user WiiSixty has compiled a video featuring segments of Resident Evil 4 and Resident Evil 5 gameplay to showcase the similarities between everything from reload animations to enemies spinning like a top from a well-placed bullet from both titles. The question lighting up message boards is whether or not Resident Evil 5's continuation of "the same thing" is well advised or not. Is it possible we're jumping to conclusions and calling the Resident Evil 5 gameplay mechanics old because of the substantial changes RE4 made to the series? Maybe with games like Gears of War and Army of Two borrowing those mechanics we're all a little burnt out on them. Honestly, it doesn't matter much to us. Resident Evil 5 looks solid so far and with the addition of online co-op play we can't wait to check it out this March.

Ordinarily we'd embed the video in this post but GameTrailers seems to be having some embedding issues. Check it out here.

Graphics Comparison of War

We're aware of the recent GameTrailers comparison video debacle, which we assume was an honest error rather than a deliberate one, but here's another one to look at. Comparing footage from Gears of War to the recent gameplay footage of Gears of War 2, we can see slight improvements in the Unreal Engine 3 graphics. Character models look less "rubbery" and smooth. The game also features something that was rare in Gears, sunlight--and it looks nice.

While Gears of War had to prove the power of the Xbox 360, Gears of War 2 has more to prove in terms of storytelling after releases like BioShock, Portal and Grand Theft Auto IV have taken the stage. The storyline in Gears of War was underwhelming to say the least but we have high hopes for Gears 2 and everything it will teach us about Microsoft's newest universe. But so help you Epic if we have to play as a Locust.

F.E.A.R. the PS3 vs 360 comparison

Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 graphics comparisons aren't anything new, but when a multiplatform game releases we figure we'll just keep dishing out the video goods. Showcased above is a graphical brawl between the 360 and PS3 versions of F.E.A.R. and even though the small embedded video isn't the perfect graphical representation, we have a difficult time telling the difference. Even after downloading the HD comparison video it's still hard to tell which version is graphically superior. Maybe it was just a good porting job from the PC version to both consoles, who knows, but to us they look the same. We'll leave it in your hands fellow fanboys, watch the video and start a mini fanboy war or just dismiss this comparison and call it a draw.

Let's compare visuals: Ridge Racer

With the release of the Playstation 3 this week we'll undoubtedly see comparisons between it and the Xbox 360 in terms of visual prowess. It's inevitable, because some gamers base their purchasing decisions strictly on which console can produce the prettiest looking environments and coolest HD particle effects. I figured I'd add fuel to this upcoming fire by posting a little comparison between the Xbox 360 version of Ridge Racer 6 and the PS3 version of Ridge Racer 7. What's cool about these comparison shots is that they are of roughly the same environments and locations, depicting a direct and accurate comparison. Though, the screen grabs are just that, off-screen grabs of the games and the article is in a language I have yet to study. Take a look at some comparison shots, which would you give the blue ribbon award for graphics to?

Hockey showdown brings back the memories

The current hockey demo showdown (NHL 07 vs NHL 2K7) on XBLM is bringing back fond memories of EA vs. 2K rivalries of yore. For many grid iron gamers, that old football favorite, ESPN NFL 2K5 for Xbox, still compares favorably with the latest Madden in several respects, especially presentation (Half-time highlights with Chris Berman!). Would Madden 07 really be a better game if EA didn't have a monopoly over the NFL license? How do you think the NFL 2K series would have developed given the chance?

BF2MC comparison video

While you're restlessly waiting for the Battlefield 2: Modern Combat demo to show up on XBLM, check out this EA-produced video comparing the Xbox and Xbox 360 versions of the game. As Xboxyde notes, it's a nice retort to the "Xbox 1.5" haters out there.

That's great EA. Now where's our friggin' demo?
