Bungie answers 'your' Halo 3 questions

If you're looking for more Legendary Map Pack media in this week's Bungie Weekly Update then be prepared for disappointment, because there isn't any. But this week you do get a lot of answers to a lot of your questions, although we do use the word "your" very liberally. We say this because we can't be sure if your (as in you) questions are being answered or if your (as in the Halo 3 community as a whole) questions get answered. Confused yet? Good. In answering some of "your" Halo 3 questions, Bungie mentions the possibility of adding Team Swat, adding more competitive playlists and the real reason why our pretty fire bomb and Flare / Radar Jammer equipment are not used in matchmaking. You'll also be smacked in the face with a long and in-depth history of the Bumper Jumper control scheme as well. Though, if that sounds like a yawn fest to you, just skip the first half of this week's update.

Another series of colorful Halo 3 Kubricks

Yet another round of Halo Kubrick love will be releasing later this year when Medicom releases series two of their Halo 3 Kubricks. And just like the first series which came out last year, this set will feature four overly adorable, super attractive Spartan figures, but in white, gold, steel and green armor. The four pack will be available sometime in September and retail for around $20. Also, we've been told to keep an eye out for an uber rare orchid colored Spartan Kubrick. Then again, who'd want an orchid colored Spartan? Purple, pink or magenta we could live with ... but orchid?

A new H3 Ghost Town screen to add to our gallery

Those lucky ducks over at Eurogamer scored an exclusive screenshot from Ghost Town, one of the three maps to be included in Halo 3's upcoming Legendary Map Pack DLC. Eurogamer scored the screenshot (a tease above and fully revealed in the gallery below) while at GDC talking with Bungie's Jarrard who said Ghost Town had some inspiration from Halo 2's Turf and also mentioned that the name Ghost Town was one of five name choices with "Mortar" nearly making the cut before a last minute change. There's more multiplayer talk in Eurogamer's mini-Jarrard interview after the jump, but we just wanted the screenshot. Enjoy, salivate and admire the sexiness that is Ghost Town. Yum.

Bungie looking at new ways to search for H3 content

While chatting with the Eurogamer crew at GDC, Bungie's Brian Jarrard talked about what they're looking at to continue Halo 3's longevity including new features that'll allow players to search through user created content. Jarrard told Eurogamer that "the problem we're dealing with now is there's just too much content," and that "for a new person that just wants to find something fun that somebody else made, we don't feel very good about the way we've done that." Jarrard continues by saying that Bungie is "working on different ways to potentially grade and aggregate and sort content" and that they believe a search database to be important "to really get a foothold and contribute to Halo 3's lifespan."

Does that pretty much confirm Bungie will be opening up the flood gates on user created Halo 3 content by allowing custom creations to be searchable, ratable and easily managed? Not exactly. But we're happy to see that Bungie sees value in user created content and how it can add years and years of life to Halo 3's online component. Here's to an easy to manage searchable index of user created Halo 3 creations. Three cheers!

Same old story: CoD4 is still the Xbox Live king

We're thinking that reporting on the weekly Xbox Live Activity may be a bit redundant now, seeing that the Call of Duty 4 / Halo 3 tug-o-war has died down with CoD4 again being the most played Live game last week. CoD4 has been on top of the list for something like four weeks straight and it's sort of becoming the norm. We've lost our fanboy excitement and miss the comment battles between unruly H3 and CoD4 fanboys. Humph. We'll see what next week brings and if H3 can climb the hill once again. Maybe we'll stuff the ballot box so to speak by gathering the community for a final H3 achievement push. Maybe, but doubtful.

On a side note, it's nice to see N+ on top of the XBLA list this week. Those free XNA games may have stole some of its spotlight, but N+ obviously didn't mind.

McFarlane Halo 3 figures spotted in the wild

All of the talk, news, previews and excitement surrounding McFarlane's Halo 3 series one has been accumulating over the past few months, all in preparation for the figures' March launch. But now we're learning that some fanboys my not have to wait until March to get their Halo 3 action figure goodness.

X3F reader matt mcclard sent us the picture above, which he recently took at a Wal-Mart store in Dallas. And we think the picture is pretty self-explanatory. Halo 3 series one figures are already making their way into retail stores! Woohoo! This also means one other thing: we're headed off to our local Wal-mart to see what Halo 3 goodies we can find. Master Chief, we're coming for you.

[Thanks, matt mcclard]

Halo 3: A little more Ghost Town, but top down

This past Thursday, Bungie surprised everyone by revealing some information and a few pictures of Ghost Town, one of three multiplayer maps to be included in this Spring's Legendary Map Pack DLC. But that wasn't enough of a tease, so Bungie (being the givers they are) decided to release a top down view image of Ghost Town in this week's Bungie Weekly Update. How caring of them. You can view the super neat top down pic in our ever expanding Legendary Map Pack gallery which we embedded below. As a bonus, Bungie even marked where all the default weapons are located and labeled where each of the three previously released screenshots were taken. Nice! And is it just us, or is anyone else semi-excited to get a glimpse of these heavily marketed "God rays"? Bring on the pretty light!

Also, if you participated in the St. Valentine's Day Massacre last week, be sure to make the jump to see if you made it onto Bungie's list of prizing winning pwners. If you're one of the lucky few, you can officially has Recon.

Bungie unveils new Halo 3 map: Ghost Town

A bit earlier today, Bungie finally took the veil off of one third of this Spring's upcoming Halo 3 DLC (now officially called the "Legendary Map Pack") by showing off and discussing the first map, Ghost Town.

Ghost Town (formally known as "O.K. Corral") is a smaller, asymmetric map set inside an ancient, broken apart, vegetation ruled water purification complex. Inspiration for Ghost Town was pulled from the campaign's Sierra 117 level (with hints of Halo 2's Warlock as well), featuring lots of debris and a cool "jungle feel". Check out Bungie's quick and dirty Q&A with the map's lead designers after the jump and take a gander through the gallery below to get your visual fill of Ghost Town. We've been teased and now all we want is more Legendary Map Pack information. Bring on the goods Bungie, bring 'em on!

First glimpse of H3 McFarlane third series vehicles

More action figure preview goodness comes our way thanks to Action-Figure and ToyFare 2008 as McFarlane showcased some never before seen Halo 3 vehicles from their third series. And we actually have good news. If you recall, Toddy McFarlane decided to cancel all vehicles that were originally planned for the second series of Halo 3 figures including the Mongoose. That bummed us out, because Warthogs and Ghosts are cool, but nothing is as sexy as a Mongoose. (Now this is where we tell you the good news.) We just learned that McFarlane reworked the vehicle lineup for the third series and behold! We have Mongoose! The third series of Halo 3 vehicles will now include our lovely Mongoose, a Wraith and a miniature Scarab. Virtual high fives to everyone for the rebirth of the Mongoose!

Halo 3 melee fixing auto update is now live

The very firstest Halo 3 auto update has just been released this morning and will be automatically downloaded once you plop Halo 3 into your 360 and connect to Xbox Live. This update (which we've been calling the "melee fix" update) will make the melee seem a lot less random, unlock the Elite Commando shoulders for everyone and fix the bug where dead Spartan bodies would fly hundreds of feet through the air. Honestly though, we enjoyed that bug. Though, other than that, Bungie hasn't mentioned any other issues that the update will fix. When we contacted team Bungie about obtaining a super-duper comprehensive list of update changes, we were told that the only information being released about the Halo 3 update has been posted on Bungie.net. Humph to that. No matter, we'll make it our mission to track down all the mini-fixes (if there are any) in our first Halo 3 auto update. Now go forth and melee with honor and pride!
