Armored Core 4: 360 vs PS3 comparison
With this Tuesday's release of Armored Core 4 on both the Xbox 360 and PS3, GameTrailers decided to put together a visually informative graphics comparison video. After watching their comparison, one thing that is noticeably different between the 360 and PS3 versions is that the 360 version is much darker where as the PS3 version is more white washed. Sometimes the 360 version is way too dark, but sometimes the PS3 version looks like a snow storm ... it's a give and take. Though, we feel the two versions are nearly identical in some respect, we fully expect someone to pick apart each frame to see which version does better lighting, textures, and anti-aliasing. Watch the video above and tell us which version you think looks better. Don't worry, if you like the PS3 version better we won't ban you from our site ... yet.

360 wins based on colors, contrast, texture detail, and immersion factor...it's a bit too dark though.
The PS3 version looks washed out (like most PS3 games, the brightness is cranked for some reason).

The only noticeable difference I could tell was that the 360 appeared to have higher texture detail. Regardless, I am stoked for this game!

Eh, I'd say 360 looked better overall as well... not quite the knockout punch we saw in fight night 3 but still a bit better imo.
I don't think it was that great of a game for a good comparison anyways. The levels were very bland and the lighting was pretty simple etc..
I do enjoy these comparison vids though and I hope they continue to do them.

I don't know why, but the white light, on the back of the mech is really annoying to my eyes on the 360. Too much contrast maybe? The thing is, are these played with the same setting?
If the biggest difference is brightness and contrast, shouldn;t we, you know, even those out first for a fair comperison(and I mean using ingame settings of course) this is assuming there is that option. if not than yeah, I guess 360 wins this one.
I have a strong fealing that whenever there will be a 360 to ps3 comparison, the 360 would probably edge out by a bit. It is the exclusives we have to look at. Also, note to PS3 fanboys, you can;t compare later made ports(like oblivion) because the developers would most likely improve the textures and stuff(like oblivion) so that would be cheating.

Well Josh L. I think this is a later made port for 360. I'm not 100%, but I'm pretty sure this is already out for PS3 in Japan.
And speaking of which, this same debates goes on over there as well. Check out these screen capture comparisons: http://kotaku.com/gaming/ps3/comparing-ac4-for-xbox-360-and-ps3-243722.php

On one extreme, the 360 version is too dark, on the other extreme the PS3 version looks too grey. They're both pretty much identical.
But I definitely believe that the 360's graphics are much better so far. Good examples which shows this are Gears of War and Project Gotham Racing 3.

The darkness in the 360 version is really bothering me. Unless that's adjustable, I would say the PS3 version is better. Anyway, I agree with Josh L. in that these comparisons don't really show which console has better looking games, since these games usually aren't given the specific effort for a certain console to truly use the power of a system to its full potential like exclusive games can.

All X360 games are too dark, I just turn up the brightness on my TV accordingly. Some need it more, some less, but I have yet to play one that hasn't needed some adjusting.

I don't think the graphics matter as much as the online service, which in that area the 360 blows away the PS3!

Were these played on the same tv set? If so, the native contrast and brightness is visibly wierd. I prefer the 360 version simply because things don't seem as washed out as on the PS3 version. I'll brighten the settings if and when I actually play the game.

Besides the brightness issues mentioned in the article, I had a hard time telling a difference.

I agree with savvydoc. This isn't a good game to compare the 360 and PS3. How about Virtua Tennis?

Like Matthew Mac, I too find a lot of 360 games too dark, especially when lighting is quite essential, in games such as the GRAW's, Splinter Cell... a few friends have also commented on the lack of brightness in PGR3, and how difficult it can be to see certain corners.
Maybe it's an HD thing.

I wonder if it is because the 360 version is using component. My experience has always been that component uses higher contrast than VGA, at times a bit too much. I played the demo on my TV via VGA and it was NOT this dark.

In darker areas of the game, it seems easier to play on the ps3, and with places with more lighting, textures look a lot noticeably nicer on the 360, you could always adjust your screen so things are lighter on the 360 and maybe when those are up, who knows. Hard to say.

I can tell you the key difference between them; it only costs £319 to play the Xbox 360 version whereas the PS3 version would set you back £465!* :-)
But seriously, there isn't anything to choose between them.
* Assuming £40 for the game and buying a new console that is.

gamma is not enough difference, I am pretty sure this could be tweaked on each platform. Looks the same to me.
