1. Okay... I'm seemingly time challenged.

Does this start between today and tomorrow, at midnight, or is it tomorrow and the next day, midnight?

Seriously... Any help?

4. Who cares......Halo is so overblown

5. How can you be on this site and not like halo i mean it practically made xbox 1 and is sure to be one of the most selling and greatest games of all time.

"Who cares.....Halo is so overblown"

Um...is this a trick question? Evidently, over 4 million people care so far, and we still have 4-6 months to go.

Overblown? Perhaps.
Justified by Consumer Interest? Absolutely.

Besides, you haven't even begun to see the hype machine that's in store for this IP. Just wait until summer/late summer...then the behemoth will be steaming at full gale wind forces.

7. Overblown???

Halo 3 is going to introduce some great new features to Multiplayer FPS just as Halo 2 did. Like being able to record and share videos with everybody. Improved Party system where you and your friends can keep playing together. And who knows what other new stuff they've got.

Halo Single Player maybe overblown...but Halo Multiplayer is truly amazing.

Recording matches has already been done on ps games though its new to console gaming for fps shooters which is cool and there is also the new veto feature which is cool and whatever other ones we don't know off.

@6
The 4 million thing you mentioned if you are talking about 4 million preorders already at gamestop/eb games thing that was posted on this website not to long go if so then that is most likely fake. I am a huge halo fan and in the beta i just wanted too mention that.

Can't wait till tomorrow

10. @8

No, the 4 million pre-orders was real, and was just for the Gamestop owned stores.

@7

I think the single player is amazing, and the story is my favorite of all time. Masterchief is badass, and the music is unparalled.

Posted at 5:44PM on May 15th 2007 by erivera3

11. Gamestop owned stores are only in America so that makes me even highly think its fake since there are only 9 to 11 million xbox 360's owned worldwide.

Posted at 5:53PM on May 15th 2007 by jason

12. I don't find it hard to believe at all, for many 360 owners the reason they bought a 360 was for Halo 3 (including myself). Also, I know a lot of people personally that have pre-ordered a copy of Halo 3 even though they haven't bought a 360 yet (saving money/waiting for a price drop and waiting until it gets closer to the release of Halo 3).

Posted at 6:00PM on May 15th 2007 by erivera3

13. Yeah... 4 of my friends Pre-ordered it without having 360's. ALl of them planning on getting them closer to halo 3's launch.

Anyways... 8 AM EST? Are you cracked? Four hours after 12 AM PDT is 4 oclock... so by my justification and math, you are totally wrong.

Posted at 6:08PM on May 15th 2007 by Justin U

14. what your saying is over %50 of 360 owners preordered halo 3 at gamestop alone so barely anyone will buy halo 3 from walmart, targert, kmart, gamecrazy, ebgames, ext. I highly doubt what your saying can be true still the numbers just don't fit.

Posted at 6:13PM on May 15th 2007 by jason

15. @ Jason

Check your math there, over 50% of "9 to 11 million xbox360s" would mean more than 4.5 million to 5.5 million pre-ordered from gamestop stores. That isn't the number, the number is 4 million copies, and like I said that is not including those that have pre-ordered the game despite not owning a 360, which is probably quite a few people! Sure, there will be many that will try to just walk into a Best Buy or Walmart on opening day and buy a copy (if they are lucky), but many gamers have learned to pre-order to save time and ensure they will have a copy waiting for them. So, like I said, I really believe that is a true number.

16. @ 13 Eastern Standard time is 3 hours ahead of Pacific, not 4. According to the countdown on bungie.net the beta will begin at 8 am est.

@ 14 ebgames and Gamespot are the same company and some people ordered more than one copy.

17. Ebase131

Here you go from a guy who proved me wrong on preorder numbers of Halo 3 at gamestop:

Every 360 owner is buying Halo 3 I doubt that. GAMESTOP IS ONLY IN AMERICE NOT EUROPE, JAPAN AUSTRAILIA, BRAIZIL, INDIA and there are 9 to 11 million 360's owned check your math.

1.5 was the record preorders, well over 60% of that was coming down during the last couple months.

Do you understand this? Can you even imagine where I am going with this? Let me show you this road....

When Halo 2 dropped, Xbox had an installed base of roughly 15 million. 15 million and it had preorder numbers of 1.5 million. Think about that, wrap it around, let it tease your skull. 10% of the Xbox installed base preordered the game. THAT'S INCREDIBLE. Now, let's move forward, shall we? Xbox 360 has an installed base of 10 million users. Of those, six million are the online users. That's Halos core audience. And that's worldwide.

Now, are you HONESTLY trying to tell me that, somehow, Xbox 360 is selling THAT many units in the US alone to a single store chain? Here, let me show you something. As of February of this year, Xbox 360 only shipped a little over 5 million units.
http://www.vgcharts.com/page3.html

Now, keep in mind what you are suggesting here. That Gamestop, which normally accounts for only 25% of US software sales, and by their own admission only sees roughly 14% of their software sales due to preorders. So according to the numbers of 4 million preorders, and let's assume that's all the preorders they'll handle, until launch. Take 4 million times 6 to preperly represent the traditional ratios. Times 4 because that is the total US software sales Gamestop represents and you have Halo 3, in it's first week, selling 96 million copies.

Posted at 6:33PM on May 15th 2007 by jason

18. I didn't follow how you (or this guy) got to the 96 million copies in the first week, but regardless, this is all an opinion from this guy who thinks that it isn't possible. There is no written evidence that could say that Gamestops statement is false, only a written statement by them saying it is true. Anyways, I guess we'll see on opening day just how crazy this game will sell!

19. @ Jason,

First of all bud, calm down. This is the internet, no sense in blowing a heart valve.

The following is anecdotal, but it does tend to jive with that unbelievably high number of pre-orders:

First off, it doesn't have to mean that many people pre-ordered. Take me, for example. I pre-ordered 4 copies of Halo3, I'm just one person. How many others out there are in my situation.

Secondly, I talked to my local GS this weekend, and they told me their pre orders for halo 3, at this store, were already 3X that of what they had for Halo 2. Wrap you mind around that one.

Lastly, there are a good many people who have not yet purchased their 360's, but have pre-ordered Halo 3. The only reason they're even buying a 360 is for Halo 3. Right now, they're still play Halo 2 on the xbox. Most my kids friends, (they play Halo 2 almost everynight) still have their orginal xbox, but have Halo 3 pre-ordered. Microsoft has already stated that half the 360 install base did not previously own an xbox. And, I know many members of my family which have also pre-ordered halo 3, and don't intend on buying a 360 until very close to Halo 3's release.

So, while the 4 million pre-order number may seem suspect due to the number, I can most certainly believe it just from my own experiences.
