"Clans are one option for playing ranked matches. A clan is a player-created group for playing ranked matches as a team. With clans, you know the players backing you up are dedicated, and the players you're going to face will be just as dedicated."
Again, this clan "feature" is listed under the Halo 3 information on Xbox Live accessible by going to Halo 3 > Expand Your LIVE Experience > Online Game Play. Now, we aren't saying that Halo 3 will have its own implemented clan support seeing that Bungie has already denied such feature, but it could be implemented into Xbox Live via an update ... a Fall update. It's a bit of a stretch, but we didn't get clan support in the Spring dash update and Fall does start September 23rd which is a few days before Halo 3 and timed just right to be considered in the Fall. Clan support, either coming in Halo 3, in the Fall update or not at all. We'll just have to wait and see.[Thanks, zizzy]

This makes sense considering Microsoft is going around telling developers to leave out clan support suggesting that they will implement an update to add clan support for all games via one system/network. Probably a new blade from a dashboard update.

I always suspected that it was going to be in the Fall Update which played nicely with Bungie saying that Halo 3 would not have built-in clan support and MS usually does not comment on the 360 updates.
Think someone put something up at MS before they should of.
My guess is Fall update before Halo launch.

I haven't played the beta much but COD4 has clan tag support... I don't know if it actually tracks clan activity though... But it would be pretty cool if there was a blade that kept track of your clan through all games...

This was confirmed fake by Luke Smith from Bungie. (via NeoGAF: http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=7829196&postcount=5522 )

It doesn't say which part of that statement is fake. There will be team matchmaking so yeah a part of it is fake and bungie themselves have stated that although they couldn't get clan support in it may be coming down the line... which the image above is not fake. so that would allude to bungie was more than likely told by ms not to waste time setting up clan support because that was going to added by ms anyway...

They'll probably do as they did with Halo 2, make it so you can make your own clan but not include a clanmatch playlist in matchmaking since it wasn't played too much.

That's it Dustin, losing sleep for X3F!!! As they say, news never sleeps! Dustin FTW!
On topic, Clan support looks cool. I really hope it is implemented. And the fall update isn't released on the first day of fall, so don't count on it being out, before Halo launches :(

The reason it failed out of Halo 2 is because it was overly abused. I like the concept of TruSkill or whatever it is being implemented by MS for a player-on-player basis, and would like to see it grow to clans. Maybe that's something for the next Fall or Spring update. Besides, when was a game update so closely tied to a Dashboard update?

all bungie said was that they would not have it nativly to halo 3 and a moderator already came on one of the posts on b.net and confirmed that clans would be done by xbox live this is already confirmed.

As you guys may know, Halo 3 is being shipped to retailers in the coming days. My friend who works at Best Buy told me to drop in and get a copy early. If i disconnect from Xbox Live when I'm playing the single player, will MS be able to trace me afterwards. Does anyone think it will be unwise to play ahead of time or what?
BTW my buddy also said that Best Buy will be offering free Halo mics with every pre-order but it hasnt' been announced yet.(this applies Canadian stores, but it will possibly be in America as well)

I wouldnt if I were you because remember you earn achevements when you beat misions on Halo 3 and when you earn an achevement it shows the day that you earned it. So, if you can find a way of playing it without earning achevements youll be ok. You could probably only play splitscreen multiplayer, or messaround on forge offline with out getting caught and thats pretty much it.

CalabreZ: If you are really that worried about getting caught, you can change the clock forward on your Xbox in the system menu once you take it offline. I believe its under "first time setup." Also, I am a Pontiac contest winner and I will be receiving the game on Monday morning, so you can play it online after that point without fear of retribution.

There is nothing MS can do to you for playing the game earlier. You are not breaking any contracts with MS nor are you violating any copyrights. The vendor who sells the game is the one responsible. I had BioShock early for nearly a week thanks to Toys 'R Us.
However, because it's Halo 3, I would still wait...
