Over at halo.bungie.org they've posted a new One One Se7en comic and they're challenging one way to enter the Halo 3 beta ... the Crackdown code. Not only is the bundling of a Halo 3 beta invite in select copies of Crackdown downright sneaky, but we know Microsoft's marketing department is patting themselves on the back. We've never really asked your opinion on how the Halo 3 multiplayer beta code in Crackdown affects your purchasing decision. Are you seriously thinking about purchasing Crackdown for the sole purpose of the Halo 3 beta invite? Indeed it's hard to swallow, but a very viable option for those who are desperate.

I'm buying Crackdown because I've been waiting for it for over a year. If it comes with a Halo 3 Beta invite, I might try it out, but I don't really care one way or the other.

If I don't get into the beta by any of the other 2 ways (which I'm certain I will), than I am buying Crackdown for the beta code and returning it.

Yes, I will buy crackdown for the Halo 3 Beta, and most likely never play the game.

I know I will be in the minority on this but I have 0 interest in Halo 3. I will buy Crackdown because it looks like its an interesting game. If I do get a Halo 3 beta key I'll turn around and sell it to one of the awesome guys that hang around Gamestop all day... if only I could be like them.
A man can dream.

I honestly don't see the problem here. Why would anybody in their right mind complain about getting something extra in their game?

Just a reminder for those of you who are planning to do the above: The crackdown disk acts as the beta key ITSELF. There isnt a seperate beta key bundled in the box. So you will need the disc to access the beta. Also, the beta dosent start until late april or early may, meaning that you wont be able to just buy the game and return it right away. You'll have to hold on to the disc for a while, and by the time you exchange it the credit value will be significantly lower.
Oh and for those of you who think that you can just wait until the beta starts and then pick up the game, not every copy of crackdown will have the beta key. The promotion states that only specially marked boxes are going to have the beta key. From what I can confirm, only the first round of crackdown disks that are shipped will have the access key in them. That means if you don't pick up the game right away, no Halo 3 beta for you :(.
Personally, I'm picking up the game because ive been waiting for it to come out for a while now. I havn't heard anything negative about the game yet....all the hands-on previews have been nothing but positive.
I dont think getting the game is worth it if you are only interested the Halo 3 beta. Its not like the beta will be the actual multiplayer game in its entierety. Then again, I see the beta as icing on the cake for this sweet game.
Seriously though, even if you hate sandbox games ala Grand Theft Auto you should still check this game out.

The Crackdown demo hits the Marketplace on 1/18. If it's good, I'll buy it with the added bonus of Halo 3's beta.

I want the game anyway.
Personally, I think it's being blown out of proportion here. Companies have done similar things before, whether it's exclusive demo discs or something else. You either buy it or you don't. In this case, at least there are alternate methods.
It's just a way to garner interest for a product that essentially has low buzz and no name right now. I think Crackdown looks awesome, but let's face it, this sort of thing happens.
I don't really feel it's all that sneaky anyway. It would be ridiculous for them to put this in every version of Crackdown ever released. From what I've understood, most of them would be going towards pre-orders to begin with... that's certainly not new.

Well, I have $5 down on it right now in the event that I don't get an e-mail saying that I'm in the beta before it releases.

Im honestly buying it just for the beta... the amount of play that halo 3, even in its most limited for, will get at my house is well worth the $60. Crackdown coming with the $60 beta is just icing on the cake as far as im concerned... that way ill have a game to play for a while and trade in later.

i could care less about crackdown and yes, I would pay $60 for the invite all by itself. The resale values on this game are going to be just miserable though.

I don't quite get it. Why is it that so many consumers think that they can buy the game, and then immediately return it and still play the Halo 3 beta? Do you honestly think that the company is in business to just give their product away for as little as possible? What business sense do you think they have if they supplied the beta key as a separate entity? Do you not think they have already thought that if they supplied the key separate that you'd more than likely return the game?
I do not understand the logic of the majority of consumers.
As stated before, the Crackdown disc itself is the beta key. There is no way around this- period. And, if by some chance people are able to make duplicates, do you not think that once more than one identical key is logged in that both will cease to work? Think about it for just one minute... Bungie and M$ have already thought this process out and have covered all the bases to prohibit anyone from getting around copying and/or returning the game. You absolutely must have a legit copy of Crackdown that is specially marked to play the Halo 3 beta. No if's, and's, or but's about it.

I'm buying it just for the Beta key, and if I like Crackdown then that's a bonus, but from the screen shots I hate this kiddy cell shading look.

I'm going to buy crackdown, but I'm not going to play in the Halo3 beta. I hate Halo2 players, and I doubt that playing Halo3 online will be any more fun.
