Our chum over at Infinity Ward, Mr. fourzerotwo himself mentions on his personal blog that a
Call of Duty 4 title update and playlist update are nigh. Can we get a collective w00t for that? The title update will usher in a slew of multiplayer playlist changes that are so numerous, we don't have enough space to list them here, so you'll have to make the jump to read about them. Also, Infinity Ward will be releasing a patch independently from the playlist changes and it's aimed at fixing bugs, network issues and other general online problems. Both the playlist update and patch will release at separate times in the near future, so keep your eyes peelified. Happy fragging
CoD4 fanboys!

Thank God. That game has terrible multiplayer bugs. If I try to join a friend's game, it will usually just say "Error: cannot connect to server" other times it will say that my playlist is out of date, and that I need to sign out and back in, but that does nothing. And once you are finally able to join a party with your friends, it will leave half of them in the lobby and send the rest to a match. I know it's not just me, because it's happening to all the people I regularly play with. Playing online by myself works fine, but if you try to party or join friends it doesn't work for crap.

I get the same error. All you have to do is create your own party then take their invites problem solved.

yeah, I wish that worked all the time, but it doesn't for everyone. IW, just get on with it. It's been well over a month. If there weren't so many bugs, no problem, a little housekeeping is expected, but friends unable to connect, party members being left behind...

dude that happens to people without the NAT set to "open" as basicly there is a connection clash between you and your party members.
try fixing your NAT?

If my NAT is the problem it should tell me shouldn't it? Not just leave me wondering what the hell is going on. Anyways, I looked up how to open my NAT (on a linksys) and what I came up with is that you are supposed to enable UPnP. Unfortunately I already had it enabled, so I'm not sure what I'm supposed to do. And I don't have port forwarding or DMZ enabled (supposedly they can interfere with an open NAT.

Its not just COD4 its almost all games on the xbox 360, some games let you get away with "moderate" NAT settings but for almost all games "open" is realy what you should have. Unfortunatly im not a network boff so i dont know how to fix it, try posting on the official xbox forums or ringing up your isp for support. Good luck dude.
something that might help, i know that my xbox was on a moderate setting until my brother gave it a static ip. dont know if that infomation is useful or not realy, like i said im not a network person ;)

I am a huge Halo fanboy going back to Halo CE. I really enjoyed Halo 3 and played it A LOT for a few months. That being said, COD 4 is the best multilayer game I have ever played on a console. I cannot stop playing it and think about it all day at work...I would go with COD 4 if you could only get one, but they are both good and have very, very different multilayer experiences.

Gotta go with COD4, the MP is so good. I've never played a console FPS for this long. Halo has been collecting dust due to a lack of World of Warcraft like unlockables. Congrats on your new 360, you'll have a great time with it.
Other games you can't go wrong with:
Dead Rising, Gears of War, Mass Effect, Need for Speed Most Wanted, Guitar Hero 2 and 3, Rock Band, Bioshock, Half-Life Orange Box, Scene-it, Oblivion, Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter, and Call of Duty 2

Trade in the games that came with your 360 and get both Halo3 and CoD4. They are different enough to justify owning both.

You cant lose with COD4 or GEARS. Yeah Gears might be old but its still fun as hell and has the best graphics of any console out there. Wait......didnt UT3 for PS3 come out already......I take that back lol, but yeah COD4 or Gears. Teh Haloz threez just lost its charm to me for some reason =(

I'm glad to see that they're adding more options into the MP aspect. The one thing I noticed was the host connectivity update: Maybe I just read the wording wrong, but it looks like you get dumped into the lobby when the host quits out, and then it finds another host and re-starts the game. I hope that when the host leaves, it pauses the game, migrates to a new host, then resumes... no more "dump out, divvy points"

Either way man, you've narrowed it down to two decent games. It just depends on what you're looking for. I'll give you my opinion:
CoD doesn't have the crazy jump physics, sticky 'nades, or vehicles that H3 has, but on the other hand, it's got a sliding scale of online game modes from Arcade style shooter to high damage "counter-strike" style modes. Not to say H3 doesn't have variety in game types, it even includes a cool (but underplayed) race mode. CoD rewards the dedicated gamer by allowing them to "rank up" and unlock new weapons and perks. Plus you can waste someone through a wall... neat. H3 doesn't offer that, but on the other hand all weapons are available right off the bat.
My suggestion: Rent both when you get your 360.
Both games are fun to play, but like with any multi-player game there are some real a-holes in the community that will try and ruin your experience. Having a friend that has the game too helps, but to be honest you're not always going to be on at the same time, so you'll have to play against strangers too.
I recommend reading up on reviews, and asking community members like you did here. You're always going to get honest answers from the people that play the games.
Rant over.

i wish they would fix it so that if you joined your friends game, you were automatically in their party. its annoying having to leave the room and get invited into the party again.
im glad the sniper rifles are more accurate, i just wish they would be stronger. i've hit a guy with a sniper bullet, and he will still kill me with an assault rifle in like two shots.

I'm just glad they are giving us a non-party/clan team deathmatch. I'm sick of being owned by a clan in 3v6 or 4v6 situations from people quiting.
And hardcore s&d is saweeet!
