Thanks to the USK German video games ratings board (Unterhaltungssoftware Selbstkontrolle or USK) we may have un-earthed proof that Capcom's Lost Planet franchise is not dead.
Xbox-Archiv stumbled across an entry for a game called Lost Planet Colonies over on the USK website that was reviewed this past July today. Instantly, thoughts of a Lost Planet bug splattering sequel raced in our heads when we heard the news and after visiting the USK site, we were pleasantly surprised. The Lost Planet Colonies entry lists the game to be a third person shooter (yes!) and solely on the Xbox 360 (double yes!) Adding more proof to the Lost Planet sequel fire is the fact that the game is published by CEG Interactive Entertainment, a German subsidiary of (you guessed it) Capcom. We've heard lots of whispers of a Lost Planet sequel this year, but nothing has surfaced to be this concrete. Here's to Lost Planet Colonies becoming a reality and being an amazing sequel.
If you have yet to purchase Gears of War the first question that comes to our mind is why the heck not? Seriously, why haven't you purchased the game? And if we're any good at reading minds then we're sure your response has something to due with the fact that the game released last year and still retails for $59. Good point, but if you live in Japan or are all about ordering region-free games online then you no longer have an excuse.
Gears of War has officially gone Platinum Hits and received the discounted price tag for our friends in Japan. But you can still get a copy, because Play-Asia has the cheaper and region-freeGoW Platinum Hits title for only $29 with $3 in shipping charges. Not too shabby. Also, if you are a proud owner of a Japanese Xbox 360, you can pick up a Platinum Hits double pack featuring both Gears of War and Dead Rising and for $49. Also, not too shabby. Our only question to Microsoft is; when the heck does Western civilization get Platinum Gears?

Today, Capcom released specifics surrounding the Devil May Cry 4: Collector's Edition and at first glance we deem the offerings to be "mmkay". Included in the Collector's Edition is your standard "Making of" features, metal packaging and digital artwork with other more exclusive offerings including some PC content (no themes or gamer pictures, wah?) and the first four episodes of the DMC animated series. So, no figures, dolls or hardbound goodness, but you'll still get quite the nice collection of additional content for the extra few bucks it costs. And just in case you like your details in bullet lists, we broke down and posted the Collector's Edition content after the break. We're kind and caring ... we know.
New screenshots from (deep breath) Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix were posted on the Capcom Digital blog yesterday, showing off what we can expect in terms of visuals. These three (plus one off-screen) screenshots are work-in-progress (something Capcom is quite adamant at pointing out) showing off a few of the sprites we've grown to love and a few environments too. It really looks like they've taken classic Street Fighter, cleaned it up, put a new pair of jeans on it and brushed its hair, because it's looking darn spiffy. Check out all three work-in-progress screens in the gallery below and be sure to make the jump for developer commentary. And before you get riled up into a tizzy, the character selection screen's map dots are not accurate. Good catch though.
We loved the original Bionic Commando. For the time, the claw and swinging dynamics were incredibly innovative. Nowadays, swinging has been done to death, and has arguably been perfected by Spider-Man 2 (it's backwards compatible, try it out). Honestly, in the original, all you could do with the claw was swing, grab power-ups, and mildly annoy enemies. So, what does the newBionic Commando bring to the table? Take a gander at the video embedded above and find out. The new bionic arm can be used to hurl just about anything at enemies, though we're quite partial to random chunks of concrete. If you'd like to get more personal, you can always choke an enemy soldier as you casually blast some other baddies with your stupid normal arm. Or, you can pull something loose from above, letting it fall on hapless villains below.
That's all well and good, but we can't help but feel that Capcom has overlooked a prime gameplay opportunity: long range tickling.

Ever since Capcom made it official that Devil May Cry 4 was headed to the Xbox 360, everyone has been wondering exactly when that time will come. But now that release date guessing game is over (for the most part), because Capcom has made it official ... DMC4 will be landing on the Xbox 360 February 2008. No specific date has been pinned just yet, so we advise waiting to set your countdown clocks. And since February is still a ways out we think you should treat yourself to the latest DMC4 trailer which we embedded above. 2008 can't come soon enough.
Dark Void. Sounds like a great name for a sci-fi adventure game if we ever heard one. It kind of reminds us of darkness and big empty voids ... maybe that's what the marketing team behind the name was going for. The name also reminds us of space travel, jet packs, gyroscopes and a hero who isn't afraid of punching the daylights out of a person who gets up in his face. And that friends is exactly what Capcom's newly announced sci-fi action game Dark Void is all about or so we think. Because we sort of based all those facts off our experience of watching the game's official trailer that's embedded above. Go ahead, take in the Dark Void and enjoy.
Well, the first shaky-cam video anyway. The folks over at Capcom Digital have posted a cell phone video of Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix being played by a pair of employees. It's a classic Ken vs. Ryu match, and even with though it's low quality footage, it looks like the game is coming along nicely. In short, it's Street Fighter alright. Capcom Digital notes that this is the remix mode, in which characters have received a few tweaks, though only hardcore players are likely to notice them. Also, note the (optional) remixed music in the background. There really isn't that much more to say, as the whole HD part is sort of the most important piece of the puzzle. Without a high resolution video, all of that is lost. Still, footage is footage. Enjoy.
Eurogamer reports that Capcom plans to release a third game in its Commando series on Xbox Live Arcade. Better known as MERCS in the United States, Commando is a top down arcade shooter. Commando 3 is set to feature 3 uniquely equipped characters as well as co-op vehicles. The game is being developed by Backbone (they seem to make everything on XBLA, don't they?) and is scheduled to release this winter for 800 MS Points. Naturally, it will support online leaderboards and the like, though online play has not been confirmed at this time. We're going to go out on a limb and say the feature is probably in there.
This is when writing about video games gets hard. First, you should understand that we see the original Bionic Commando through the rosiest of rose tinted glasses, so our hopes for the new remake are unrealistically high. With that out of the way, the first actual footage of Bionic Commando has been released by way of the trailer embedded above. We've heard plenty of comments regarding the character design (mostly taking exception to the character's dreadlocks) but we really don't care. What we care about is that beautiful bionic arm, which appears to bee in full swing (ouch). Also high on our geek radar: the orchestral reimagining of the original game's theme song. Oh yes, that takes us back. The trailer also shows brief glimpses at some other features in the game, like sniping and the ability to throw objects with the bionic arm. All in all, the game looks good so far. Except for the "dormant since long" part. Seriously.
You know, we sort of figured there might be another Street Fighter someday, and lo and behold, Capcom has announced Street Fighter 4. The news was broken by Games Radar, though the story has since been pulled for reasons unknown. The game was apparently announced during a Capcom Gamer's Day event in London. The game is more than a year away, so don't start camping out at GameStop just yet. And that, ladies and gentlemen, is all we know. It could be 2D. It could be 3D. It could be some kind of card game for all we know. Feel free to speculate in the comments.
Say what you will about the current generation of video games, but it's not quite as advanced as you may think. No, for many gamers, game design has never really advanced past one game. We are, of course, talking about Bionic Commando for the NES. Frankly, today's games don't feature nearly enough telescoping bionic limbs. Oh sure, a few games have different grappling devices, but none of them have eclipsed the mastery of an 8-bit bionic implant. It is with no small amount of glee, then, that we reveal that Capcom has announced a new sequel to the nearly 20-year-old title. Featuring a re-imagined storyline, which ditches both the Nazis of the Japanese version and the Badds of the American and European versions, the new Bionic Commando centers around Nathan Spencer. Imprisoned for a crime he didn't commit, he is released because the government that framed him needs his unique abilities to stop a terrorist threat that has already destroyed a major city. As Spencer, players will use his bionic arm to both navigate the ruined city and combat the enemies that now inhabit it.
No release date has been given. Considering it's already been 20 years though, we can wait a little longer. Check out a video discussing the new game after the break.
We always love checking out new sprites for the upcoming (deep breath) Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix (whew!). Today we bring you two of the latest additions, M. Bison and Cammy. Now, we're not knocking scantily clad women in video games -- far from it -- but something about this Cammy sprite is just wrong. It's like a train wreck. We don't want to stare, but we can't look away. If you find yourself with a similar conundrum, you'd best make the jump and check out the new sprite of M. Bison.
For those of you that missed it the first time, the Devil May Cry 4 trailer that was released during the Leipzig Games Convention is now available on Xbox Live Marketplace. The trailer is more or less an extended version of the Tokyo Game Show trailer from last year. It introduces players to both Dante and Nero, the game's protagonists. There are also some shots of what appear to be villains as well, including the requisite scantily-clad, large-breasted dominatrix. If you've yet to experience it in HD, you might as well go download it now. Frankly, we're waiting for Capcom to give us something new.
With all the fuss surrounding Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix, we decided to shoot a few questions over to the folks at Capcom Digital. Despite the gorgeous new look, there are a few concerns about the new iteration of the series. Hardcore fans are worried about how new sprites will affect years of heavy practice and study. Will the redesign render you years of hard earned skill moot? What kind of Live support will the game have? What about revisiting other franchises? We got the answers from SSFIITHDR's producer, Rey Jimenez.
