Gears of War has officially gone Platinum Hits and received the discounted price tag for our friends in Japan. But you can still get a copy, because Play-Asia has the cheaper and region-free GoW Platinum Hits title for only $29 with $3 in shipping charges. Not too shabby. Also, if you are a proud owner of a Japanese Xbox 360, you can pick up a Platinum Hits double pack featuring both Gears of War and Dead Rising and for $49. Also, not too shabby. Our only question to Microsoft is; when the heck does Western civilization get Platinum Gears?

I already have Gears, but this happens way too often. Why does Japan always get stuff that they don't even want? Why do you do this Microsoft?

MS is going to wait until a good deal of people stop buying it. There's no reason to otherwise, much like Oblivion.

Why do people ask the dumb questions?
Western civilization doesn't get a platinum hits GoW because it still sells just fine at $60. Microsoft isn't going to give up that revenue just because a game is X months old. And this isn't because "Microsoft is evil" or some shallow crap like that. It's still about capturing as much revenue as possible.
I see that kind of faulty reasoning more and more these days. You make price cuts when it makes business sense, not when you feel like making it easier on the consumer. Anyone who tells you otherwise should never run a business.

FYI-last week Gears of War sold less than 11,000 copies for #49 overall for all games. It wont go platinum til after the Xmas rush. But it's utter crap that Japan again gets 'rewarded' by not buying the XBOX360 in the first place. Just pull the plug on that market and save money!

They don't sell it here for that yet because they are waiting till they sell a few more copies and then will release a "game of the year" version with a bunch of extra content so everyone re-buys it. Orrrr comment #3.

@3 I guess people ask dumb questions because we all know that somewhere there is a know it all ass who thinks he understands how to run Microsoft.
You realize that the 360 just recently started to turn a profit. According to your logic you would have probably canned the Xbox after not seeing any profit. Let's all be thankful you aren't in charge.

When will Gears of War Platinum Hits come out in the US? When people stop paying $60 for it. The reason it's $30 in Japan is to entice people into buying 360's.

Gee, Edge, thanks for the insight. I'm sure Dustin had no idea how free-market capitalism functions today. Thank goodness you stepped in. Of course, there's another segment of the market you might have addressed: people who are waiting to pull the trigger on Gears until it goes Platinum. I'm one of them.

Seriously, it takes Microsoft way too long to release Platinum Hits for their games. I mean, they aren't saving much money since all these games are so much cheaper used. They make no money on used games. So might as well cut their losses and release the discounted Platinum Hits. I need my shrink wrap.

Im a bit confused, I have the same question as #8, if I buy this from Play Asia, can I play it on my US XBox 360 and will it be in English? Also, ive read some people dont like the Platinum Hits releases, are they stripped down or exactly the same as initial release? Maybe I am getting Platinum hits confused with another kind of "bargain" release.

and according to your logic, the 360 would've dropped to $100 after six months. that's how ms is making up a lot of the losses from hardware--by putting out hit games and, pretty much milking them for all they're worth. notice that halo was full price for a very very very long time? ms knows how long people will buy full price games, and in japan that time has passed (or never existed i guess)

Personally the Japanese can have the games at $5 for all i care. As long as we get Japanese dev teams supporting the 360.
And I'd like to point out to the Americans that us Europeans pay around 15-25% more per title than you do!

but do you seriously want the platinum hits version? the cover is hideous! halo, the bestselling xbox game until halo 2 didn't get a reduced price sku for 2 years after release. thats just how it is.

^wow who the hell cares of the damn cover. Can you play your cover? It gets annoying when people hate on Platinum hits or any other type of bestseller series just because of the cover. If its such a problem for you, print a cover from online.
