Gosh, you know, I was 'very' excited about this game, even finally caved and got the 360 (I'd been holding out, after hearing about all the three red lights) and then, last week, for my birthday, I got it as a gift. And then, after only three hours of play, those damn three red light popped up. Now I have to send it in and have it repaired. Guess I'll just stay away from spoilers, as best I can :(

Sounds like you didn't really get an RROD Patrick. Sounds like you just got a plain old defective xbox 360 right out of the box which really blows. Really really blows.
Generally RRODs are 'theorized' to be caused by the heatsink or the paste attaching the cheatsink to key components being lose or improperly applied in the later case. This cause the chip to overheat by just a few degrees.
Generally putting a heatsink though is putting a square shape on a square chip. You could be off a bit but should mostly be on if the assembly worker has a skill of a 3-year old. (Match the shape).
The downside is that even if a light overheating occurs, you won't seem much of an effect right away. However, after hours of running a machine at a higher temperate the wear takes it toll. When that happens, your xbox 360 shows three red lights.
Since you got it right away though, it probably means a really defective unit. (Chipped was fried to start with and/or no thermal paste was applied and/or the assembly worker was really drunk the night before and totally misplaced the square heatsink on the square chip creating more of a rectangle.)

Yee I've had the three red lights twice, and my 360 is going haywire right now. It stutters constantly and it hardly ever plays properly. What sucks is Halo 3 is gonna be at my house but my 360 is going to be off to repairs! :(
I'm going to see if they can send me an Elite for my troubles, because they have already sent me a controller, headset, and PGR3 when I complained.

BTW If you guys wanna try getting free stuff too just say you're having trouble with your controller and headset.
I'm usually not a scammer but after years of problems I've had it. Plus I'm certifiably cursed when it comes to consoles - my goddamn Wii broke!

I take it you bought your defective console in USA? If it was the UK, you can take it back to the store you bought it from within a year for a no quibble swap, thats what I done after my car accident (the 360 was in the seat and smashed on the dashboard then floor. 60mph collision. There were a few screws rolling around inside it so I took it back and said in my dumbest voice, it just keeps freezing.... can I get a new one, heres my reciept!!

You can also get free stuff by repeating the same thing over and over. "I am not confidant that you will solve my problem based on my past experiences". Works every time.

Given the fact the 360 had to overcome the Xbox's tarnished legacy, one might wonder why any Japanese studios decided to make games for it at all. Some designers say that they chose to work on the console simply because there were no other next-gen options at the time development of their game started.
"We really wanted to develop a high-end game, and the desire to make that kind of game was more important than the market to us in the beginning," said Infinite Undiscovery producer Hajime Kojima. "The PlayStation 3 wasn't out at that point. Also, from the business side of it, it was originally a Microsoft and Tri-Ace project, so obviously Microsoft was going to push for it to go exclusively to the 360."
PS3 You Bitches!!!! OHHH, and UHMMMM Ph-Q. GT5
