Wolfenstein set for 2008 release

Wolfenstein fans can again rejoice, because the franchise hasn't died just yet. Actually, you'll be happy to know that the next game in the series will be hitting the 360 later next year. In an interview with a Wisconsin new station, who were doing a story on video game development, Raven Software talked about what new tools they use for next gen development and hinted that Wolfenstein will be releasing sometime in 2008. Huge news? Not really, but the Wolfenstein dev team has kept quite mum about their little baby, so any news is rather exciting. Full article and Raven Software interview after the jump.

1. Hmmm, seems hard to justify this as a 800 pointer (speculating purely on what Doom was priced at). Unless they build a multiplayer in (the original wolf didn't have that right?), I am not sure Wolf would be worth 800 points. Especially since its taking so long to get it out there.

2. Ummm...I'm pretty sure they are talking about a new next-gen Wolfenstein game. Not the original game. Oh and I just got my xbox rewards game and shirt in the mail today.

3. lol... I don't think the article is talking about releasing the original Wolfenstein on XBLA. I'm pretty sure it's talking about a sequel to Return to Castle Wolfenstein

4. Dude, Wolfenstein on the Xbox killed everything on Xbox Live. The multiplayer was ridiculous! The first games I bought were Halo, Blitz, and Wolfenstein. The single player kinda sucked, but the Live multiplayer was SO SICK!!! I'd go as far as saying that it was better than Halo 2 when people were playing it. Any Return to Castle Wolfenstein vets out there? Panzerfaust or Venom?

6. I never played RTCW on xbox but I played the hell out of multiplayer on the PC and it was one of the best gaming experiences of its time.

Posted at 2:18PM on May 16th 2007 by VIlhelm

7. RTCW was the best FPS on Xbox (absent halo, of course). I've been dying to play it for a few weeks now.

This is great news

8. Well, don't I feel like the tool of the century basing the first comment purely on the picture and not paying attention to the actual post. I guess the 7 months + release date makes a little more sense now :)

9. I would love the idea of Wolfenstein on XBLA. Forget NEXT-GEN big titles. I Don't care about that. I want my old school, nazi killing. "Mein Leben!" Start working on that, Raven! Please.

Posted at 9:46PM on May 16th 2007 by Killer

10. Yeah, no. There is a brand new Wolfenstein being released this year. Not the old one, but a brand new one based on the Doom3 Engine. Looks great...

Posted at 10:05PM on May 16th 2007 by Zeus the God

11. eurgh.. the Doom 3 engine? I hope they handle it well. I've yet to see a well performing Doom 3 game on the 360 - Quake and Prey didn't do too well.
