Dash Update springs onto Live

If you've turned on your Xbox 360 today, you should already have the Spring Update for the dashboard. We spent some time fiddling around with it, looking at the new features. The Xbox Live Marketplace blade is more or less exactly the same as the old Marketplace, though a few things have been shifted around to produce a better layout. IM and Chat are now located directly on the games blade. While everyone is making a big deal out of Live Messenger integration, one of our favorite features is the new tray display. Before, it simply read "Play Game," but now it shows the game that's in the tray. Even better, the info box on the right side of the screen displays how much Gamerscore you've acquired for whatever game you have in the tray. It also shows the most recent achievements you've acquired in the game.

Have you discovered anything else that's new, or are you too busy chatting it up with your buddies?

2. >How's it going
>Great! What are you up to?

What's next? "I'm having a SWELL day today"

3. I'm 20 and apparently I'm a child according to the newest update. Family Control is the most frustrating option (not really an option, once ur in u cant get out) in xbox 360 by far.

6. "when the releasing that keyboard and how much is it going to be because its useless without it."

You can just hook up a plain old USB keyboard in the meantime.

My favorite addition, personally, is the improved achievement dialog. It now pops up and tells you the achievement and its value. Much better than going into the dashboard every time.

7. @ KingofWale

Things a little slow at PS3 Fanboy today?

8. I hear that with a USB keyboard you can simulate those extra (non-alphanumeric) keys on the thumb-board using Windows key shortcuts, but I haven't seen a comprehensive list. Here's what I know so far:
WIN+M opens a chat box, like the little speech balloon button
WIN+arrow keys switches between chat boxes

Are there other shortcuts? They should make the Windows key by itself be like pressing the Orb button on the controller...

9. Is that keyboard attachment out yet? I haven't seen it in any stores yet.

11. Does anybody know how to turn off or reduce the Black Level because I don't like it dark. I like the display the way it was before the update.

12. I'm just waiting for them to come out with keyboard achievements! Hey you get em for everything else! LOL!!

13. Well apart from the fact that I can't seem to find the main feature on all the screenshots (the black box conversation window), I cannot change my MSN name on Messenger now, the messenger itself is full of bugs, my friends list is now full of hyrogliphics as people use "Messenger Plus" on their display names, and I can only sign into an old account I never use - it's brilliant!

14. I did not see the feature listed but did the "low power while downloading" feature get added?

Posted at 1:53PM on May 9th 2007 by VOS

15. Woohoo!!!

The dashboard, and especially the grey blade from the left seems snappier! This is hands down the best improvement, MSN integration and Marketplace improvements be damned!

No more waiting 2 seconds for the damn blade to roll in and out. Thank you MS!!

16. I don't always receive notifications of messages I get from Messenger contacts...I must be doing something wrong...

But another new thing I've noticed with this update is that "Can only play 100 songs" from my iPod thing is fixed. I can now play all the songs from my iPod while playing a game. and not just the first 100.

17. Can someone please explain to me how people are having all these problems with child accounts? Don't you put your info in when you sign up, and you're not a child unless you put underage info in?

Posted at 1:56PM on May 9th 2007 by Jon

18. I'm still surprised anyone actually uses MSN Messenger.

Posted at 1:58PM on May 9th 2007 by Saxon

19. There is now an online status icon on your gamercard. Not much but you don't have to bring the guide up to see your status now.

20. Yeah, the whole 'child' thing is VERY annoying. Even though the majority of Live Messenger users are teenagers talking amongst their friends, we are classed as 'children' and aren't allowed to use the biggest new feature of the Spring update!
Anyone else have this problem?
