Rumor: Warhammer online hammers 360

Our seafaring, scurvy ridden, piratical masters at Joystiq are reporting that Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning (WAR) is heading to consoles -- the Xbox 360 to be specific. According to a recent job posting, EA Mythic is looking for a Warhammer console producer, responsible for leading "production and design on an exciting EAMythic title being developed across next generation console platforms for the online MMORPG market." Of course, it's possible that this job title refers to some other EA Mythic produced Warhammer title, but it's just as likely that the posting refers to WAR.

If true, it's nice to see the 360 get some more MMORPG lovin'. Along with Age of Conan, the 360 is developing a solid library of MMOs. Of course, the big question for 360 owners is if and how much these games will cost, especially for those who already pay for Gold Live service. If an MMO was good enough, would you be willing to pay additional fees on top of your Gold subscription?

1. as long as you could install the game to your HD (we need biggers harddrives!), could use a keyboard and mouse... and maby let you install custom user interface addon's then i see no reason why not to play an mmo on a 360. Unless ur pc blows ur 360 away ofc :)

2. if you want a keyboard and mouse and all that what is the point of xbox 360 i would pay a little extra but free would be better

3. you don't need a gold account to play a mmorpg just a silver account

4. no. absolutely not. it's bad enough that i pay for xbl and have to look at ads as well.

i think there should be a massive boycott if that's what they're thinking.

5. NOT A CHANCE!!

I am NOT a WoW player, because I don't want to pay those fees! I feel the same for a 360 MMO!

Though, if WoW was ever brought to the 360, i think it would outsell Halo 3 ten time over! LOL

7. Quit all the QQing! It's like none of you 360 fanboys ever played and paid for EQ, AC2, DDO, WOW. This would be AWESOME if it were true, as I hear Warhammer Online can be quite taxing on an older PC, I'd MUCH rather play it on my 360 via my HD set than have to upgarde my PC to run it. And I'd gladly pay $10-$15/month for the privelage, as I'm sure would many thousands of others (if not hundereds of thousands). QQing about paying a monthly fee to play an MMO? What world do you guys live on? :P

8. I wouldn't mind some ads on loading screens to cover for not having to pay for extra expenses.

Posted at 7:41PM on Dec 28th 2006 by Ciaran

9. I would pay for a true MMORPG. Not a quasi one like PSU. Also if I’m going to pay a monthly free don’t even thinking of milking me for extra downloadable content. But ya I would love to see one.

10. I don't understand the rationale of people complaining about paying a game fee on top of the Xbox Live Gold fee: the two have no correlation at all - hence the reason you don't need Gold to play all MMOs.

Moreover, the people who say "well then I'll just get it on PC" don't seem to realize that they aren't saving any money: your just paying out to a different person on two different platforms.

If this game comes to 360, I will definately be jumping aboard. If there is anything that can dethrone the WOW Nazi War Machine, it's a Warhammer MMO.

11. I'd love to see more RPG's and MMO's on the 360. However I agree with alot of people, I don't want to pay more for it. I also wouldn't want to see download content flood the market place. Maybe expansions that are reasonably priced. No 100-250pt Sword or armor set.

12. MMOs make perfect sense for the 360, they are great for building communities and could take advantage of LIVE in ways that traditional MP games have.

I'm looking forward to seeing what ends up coming out for MMO on 360, and if the experience is fun then I dont have a problem paying a reasonable subscription fee. Lets face it, server maintanance and content creation on a well polished level costs money, and no developer makes games to lose money.

Frank,

I understand your statement, but that's not the point. The point is that a lot of Xbox Live users, especially the ones who want MMO games, *already* have Xbox Live Gold. Such people may be reticent to pay more on top of that. It's doubtful they would ditch Gold just to play an MMO for less.

14. @ Richard: "I understand your statement, but that's not the point. The point is that a lot of Xbox Live users, especially the ones who want MMO games, *already* have Xbox Live Gold. Right, but to turn around and buy it on another system is riduclous: the MMO has nothing to do with Xbox Live or even Microsoft at all beyond being released on the system and thus, as I said, the two fees have no correlation. If a given gamer finds paying for both atrocious, it would follow that he or she wouldn't play MMOs at all - so yea, the people who don't want to pay for an MMO aren't going to play it, regardless of what's system it's on.

The problem here is that people are complaining about the price in addition to a fee that has nothing to do with the MMO. That's like complaining that you're already paying a heating bill so you shouldn't have to pay for your phone.

Now, if Microsoft was publishing the MMO and maintaing the servers, I would have a different opinion, but as it stands, there's no reason to complain about an additional fee because it's inherent and consistent throughout the genre.

15. Frank,

Ah, but you're assuming people use logic when they complain about things :)

You make a good point, though.
