Mass Effect 2 set to be a 360 timed exclusive [update]

Semi-confirming industry analysts' predictions, BioWare senior manager Matt Atwood told CVG that Mass Effect 2 will more than likely be a timed exclusive for the Xbox 360. When talking about the Mass Effect trilogy and how it'll be released, Atwood revealed that he believes "we'll be Xbox 360 exclusive for at least a short period of time." Atwood goes on to say that they've "had a great relationship with Microsoft and done very well", but that they are still working out specifics regarding future Mass Effect releases. Later in the interview, it was also revealed that BioWare plans on releasing Mass Effect 2 onto the PC similar to how Mass Effect will be releasing to the PC platform this May saying that "you'll see a PC version not too far away."
With the next-gen wars heating up and BioWare getting gobbled up by EA, we're more than happy with an Xbox 360 timed exclusive release as a straight up exclusive 360 release was starting to look unlikely. We just hope BioWare stays on top of their game and doesn't let multiple platform releases mess with their nearly perfect formula.

Bioware: Mass Effect 2 "to a whole new level"

Commenting to MTV's Multiplayer blog, the Bioware doctors spoke briefly about the side-quests in Mass Effect (which we can all agree were repetitive and far too similar). There are a few comments made about the "reasoning" behind the Mass Effect sidequest choices, but a clever reader can tell it really came down to time. Which is mentioned as being spent mostly on tech and engineering in the first game, and the team's subsequent freedom to spend that time on "making things a little bit richer." Hopefully it'll be more than just a little bit, but as the recent DLC revealed it seems that Bioware has shifted their internal bar for sidequest quality. As long as the doctors make good on their mentioned plans to make the difference in quality between Mass Effect and Mass Effect 2 similar to the difference between Baldur's Gate and Baldur's Gate 2, then we don't have anything to worry about with this trilogy.
Win Mass Effect DLC from Joystiq

We've got a brand new Fanswag Weekly giveaway going up tomorrow, but that won't prevent us from pointing to Joystiq's own Mass Effect giveaway or, to be more precise, Joystiq's giveaway of the Mass Effect "Bring Down the Sky" downloadable content. In case the word giveaway didn't clue you in, that means you could win the DLC for free! Absolutely nothing. The giveaway ends at 5:45PM ET today though, so you'd better head over to the official giveaway post and enter while you still can. Oh, and did we mention there will be ten winners? Because there will be. You know, just sayin'.
Don't forget, Mass Effect DLC releases today
A reminder to all the element-zero-heads out there, Mass Effect's first (of a speculated five, as devs are allowed 250 achievement points via DLC) round of downloadable content hit the Marketplace today. With the inclusion of an entirely new race, 50 more achievement points, and a supposed hour and a half of gameplay it looks as though this is no mere horse armor. The only "warning" needed is that you will need a save that gives your character access to the Normandy,as the content is reached via the Galaxy Map. The name of the content pack comes from the story premise in the featured mission. A Batarian extremist group has hijacked a mobile asteroid station in the Asgard system, setting it on a collision course with the nearby colony world of Terra Nova, and for 400 MS points (about five bucks) you can saddle up and save the planet.
Mass Effect DLC: Details on the Batarians

With the new DLC for Mass Effect hitting next week, Bioware has updated their Galactic Codex with information about the major new "feature" of the DLC, the new race, Batarians. First appearing in the Mass Effect universe before the game had even hit store shelves, Batarians featured largely in the prequel novel Mass Effect: Revelation and made no appearance in the retail game at all. The four-eyed humanoid species is isolationist and resides mainly in the Terminus systems, which are mentioned frequently in-game as a source of instability and insurrection. The website update includes some short history and back-story, along with a new screen and a small flash video of the species facial animations. Hopefully we'll get more on the species during the supposed 90 minutes of gameplay the pack provides. Entitled Bring Down the Sky, the DLC hits this Monday for 400 MS Points.
BioWare talks Mass Effect's 'Bring Down the Sky'

Beware of BioWare: 2008's EA Spouse or internet anger?
According to a post from the infamous industry insider Surfer Girl, BioWare has been called out as one of the worst employers in the gaming world. Gamewatch.org poster Milez5858 warned forum readers of the horrors of working for the Canadian company, "EA gets a lot of the grief for their employment history. For anyone considering work at Bioware, beware of them as well." Milez5858 later added, "They love out of country workers because they don't understand the Canadaian [sic] labour laws. They continually fire people with out warning. This is illegal in Canada."
So is Milez5858 a jaded employee of the recently acquired Canadian developer? No. In fact he/she claims to be a friend of former employees angered for being dismissed for refusing to work more than 40 hours a week. Soon after lighting the fire from under BioWare on January 25, Milez5858 removed his comments on Gamewatch.org's message boards regarding the company and its practices on February 13 leaving only the disconcerting words, "big scarey [sic] company vs. li'l ol' me." Who knows the truth in this situation, but let's look at the facts.Continue reading Beware of BioWare: 2008's EA Spouse or internet anger?
Commander Shepard has never looked this good

HyperChild just recently showcased the final sculpt for their upcoming Mass Effect Commander Shepard statue which not only comes with an $89 price tag, but comes chalk full of Mass Effect gaming cred. The statue (seen in the gallery below) is around eight inches tall, is limited to 2,500 pieces and will be available the second quarter of 2008 exclusively through online retailer HighDome. And with all this action figure talk lately, we must say this Commander Shepard statue is one of the best sculpts we've seen yet. But we guess that's why it carries an $89 commitment.
New KOTOR rumor just that

The rumor mill was spinning at a manic pace yesterday thanks to a little analyst report from one of the biggest companies in the business, EA. The KOTOR listing after BioWare's name in the slide from John Riccitello's presentation told many of us that our prayers had been answered, and that the series had returned from whence it had come. Yet fate said that this was not to be. For you see, being less romantic about the subject than us, an EA PR representative told the press that the slide did not in fact refer to games in development, but rather "it addresses future and past titles" and that it's more of a company's pedigree than it's work order. As horrible as this news is there is actually a silver lining, that MMO they're still developing could still be Star Wars themed, and so (as niche as that corner of the universe is) there's still hope for a KOTOR MMO.
As a side note, this effectively kills the speculation over the continuation of the White Council project, as well as the rumored Black sequel and any other craziness that may have come out of the analyst meeting. Though there is always the possibility that it's all true and that the EA PR department exploded yesterday and went into damage control mode, with this being the result. PR departments have done crazier things.
BioWare working on proper KOTOR sequel?

A new KOTOR game was seemingly announced at an EA Analyst Meeting this morning. At the meeting a list of what were previously BioWare/Pandemic-owned studios was presented, along with the games in production at each. While there are a myriad of games on the list, the BioWare-developed list is the most interesting by far, as the contents address a host of rumors and speculation. It seems that BioWare is developing not only an MMO but a real sequel in the KOTOR series. As KOTOR fans We can't think of anyone we'd rather have develop the third (and one might think last; trilogies and all) game in the KOTOR series than BioWare. Great news, but what does this mean about the "New MMO"? Is it Star Wars based? Is it something totally new? BioWare has had success with new IP lately ... dare we say Mass Effect MMO?

EA confirms Mass Effect PC release in May

Mass Effect on the PC will be identical to its older 360 sibling, but will also sport some PC exclusive additions. Additions including an optimized control scheme, the ability to map hot keys, an enhanced inventory system and a new decryption mini game. Mini games FTW! What is missing from their announcement is any details about how the upcoming Bring Down the Sky DLC will be incorporated into the PC release or if they'll be adding more graphic "sex scenes" so FOX News has something to talk about.
