Rumor: MS planning five hour long New Xbox Experience media blitz

In rumor news that could probably be filed under the sub-category "too good to be true", word on the street is that Microsoft is planning a huge New Xbox Experience blowout later this month. A five hour long G4TV "console re-launching" event that's said to be full of new Xbox 360 game announcements.

According to forum poster Dodece over on VG, Microsoft will hold their five hour long New Xbox Experience re-launching event on September 25th beginning at 7:00PM eastern and unleash an all out media blitz. Rumored to be announced during the event is news regarding free Halo 3 DLC, new Mass Effect DLC, the first of two chunks of GTAIV DLC and info regarding Portal. Also, during the event, six Xbox Originals will be released for free. There is also mention that MS will announce a Sirius Satellite Radio partnership, a new music download service and something called "Mad Lib" of which isn't explained. As if that wasn't enough, Microsoft will be announcing twelve new game titles exclusive to the 360, all of which are codenamed, but the rumor source confirms Assassins Creed 2, Mass Effect 2, a new Conker title, a new Rare shooter and two new Halo games are in the mix. Phew!

Sound too good to be true? Yeah, sounds that way to us as well. Then again, if Microsoft wanted to march into the holidays with their guns a blazing, holding a five hour long 360 media frenzy would generate a bunch of buzz. Try not to get your hopes up though.

For a limited time, popular 360 DLC gets discounted

Through the end of October, Microsoft is running an "Extended Play Download Days" promotion on the Xbox Live Marketplace, where they've selected and discounted a few sets of popular DLC.

The discount priced DLC includes content from Beautiful Katamari, Forza 2, Guitar Hero III, Mass Effect and Oblivion with savings ranging from 25-60% off the original prices. That means you can get Mass Effect's Bring Down The Sky DLC for 300(originally 400), Oblivion's Shivering Isles for 1600(originally 2400) and GHIII's Foo Fighters Pack for 360(originally 500). More Mass Effect DLC a possibility

Speaking to MTV's Multiplayer, BioWare's Greg Zeschuk came tantalizingly close to confirming more DLC for Mass Effect. While Zeschuk didn't go so far as to confirm that more DLC is on the way, he did say that Bioware is "talking about" it and that BioWare wants gamers to "always have something ... to try." We're sure that Mass Effect fans would agree, especially considering they've had nothing new to explore since the "Bring Down the Sky" DLC released in March. Unfortunately, Zeschuk said nothing regarding when we might actually see this potential DLC, so it looks like Mass Effect fans are still left out in the cold darkness of space.

Rumor: Mass Effect Trilogy exclusive to the Xbox 360 [Update]

Update: A BioWare representative commented on this story at GameDaily denying the Muzyka ever alluded to Xbox 360 exclusivity. "This site [Xboxoz360] is incorrect; Ray did NOT make any such statement regarding any exclusivity plans for the Mass Effect trilogy," the rep insisted.

In the September issue of Australian 360, BioWare co-founder and CEO Ray Muzyka was discussing the future of Mass Effect and the possibility of multi-platform at the EA European Showcase. "We said we were committed to supporting Mass Effect as a franchise and have the trilogy on the Xbox 360, and that's still our goal", Muzyka told the magazine, later adding "we're always very ambitious in our goals and the most important thing is quality, so we're never going to compromise that."

The quote doesn't actually lead us to believe that the series will be exclusive because the word is never actually uttered. If anything it provides the insight that the series will always be on the Xbox 360 but Muzyka never says it will only land on Microsoft's console. As one reader points out, it's more of a nod to the entire trilogy making it out this generation.

Questions regarding the fate of Mass Effect have been in the air since Electronic Arts acquired the famed Canadian developer -- who hold the rights to the Mass Effect name and universe. With major companies going multi-platform to make up for costly development we'd be surprised if EA went this route. Unless of course a deal is in place that was made prior to the EA acquisition or shortly thereafter.

A representative for Electronic Arts has yet to reply to inquires regarding this rumor at the time of publishing this story.

Big Daddy gets the Spore treatment

As PC gamers patiently wait to play Will Wright's latest creation, Spore, they've recently had a chance to tinker with the Spore Creature Creator to test the customization options of the game. As expected the first monsters created were intentionally NSFW but some gamers took the opportunity to get creative. Using the PC tool gamers have recreated the Big Daddy from 2007's critically and commercially acclaimed BioShock. Other game character homages made with the tool include Mass Effect and a very bubbly Master Chief.

Purchase Mass Effect and points, get free gift card [update]

Update: Doh! Best Buy's Mass Effect offer isn't as good as we initially thought. Instead of getting a free gift card and MS points with a game purchase, you'll instead have to buy BOTH Mass Effect and a 1600 MS point card to get a free $10 gift card. Sorry for our mistake. We will be giving ourselves 1600 lashes with a wet reed as punishment.

This is an official purchasing alert to all fanboys who are on the Mass Effect-future-purchase-fence. This week, over on, you can grab Mass Effect for $59 and, if you purchase a 1600 Microsoft points card at the same time, they'll throw in a free $10 gift card. and 1600 Microsoft points. Just hit up for the complete deets. You can also score a $10 Best Buy gift card with the purchase of Lost Odyssey or Oblivion: GOTY Edition. Since we're talking Sunday deals, we'll also mention that Circuit City is offering a free $10 gift card with a Dark Sector purchase and giving away Call of Duty 2 with a Call of Duty 4: GOTY Edition purchase. W00t, w00t!

Those are the deals we came across, so spend wisely, stay informed and be sure to blow your entire paycheck on the hobby you love. Just don't blame us when you get evicted from your apartment and are forced to game on the streets.
