First Mad Catz Rock Band instruments next week (probably)
- Wired bass guitar -- Officially licensed Fender Precision bass replica with 'split strum bar' that allows for simultaneous up and down strumming. (June 22 - $69.99)
- Wired guitar -- Officially licensed Fender Telecaster guitar replica with programmable strum bar (programmable, as in 'cheating'?), 'quick response' fret buttons (release date not listed -- $79.99)
- Wired microphone -- Integrated d-pad and face buttons (!), lock/unlock button, 'high profile' pop stopper (supposedly out now, though not in stores yet -- $59.99)
- Portable drum kit -- Small, portable drum kit with quiet pads and foam tipped drumsticks. Custom drum pad covers available. It's not clear if this set is actually freestanding or it has to be set on top of something (July 15 - $49.99)
- Premium wired drums -- Full drum set designed after real electric drum sets. Features high hat (with foot pedal), crash cymbal and 'fully adjustable' drum heads with 'two axis motion' and the ability to reposition each drum head (August 1 - $149.99)

Mad Catz working on Rock Band peripherals
Mad Catz has announced that the company is creating a suite of new instruments for Rock Band. The products will be officially licensed by MTV Games to work with the game, so have no fear about compatibility issues. Specifically, the company will be creating wired and wireless bass guitars, a wired microphone, and drums with "professional wooden drum sticks." Also mentioned alongside the instruments is the somewhat more ambiguous phrase "other products." We imagine things like instrument skins and the like, but it's possible other products could include other things like effects pedals and whatnot. Peculiarly, the press release specifically identifies the guitars as bass guitars. We're not sure exactly what that means, perhaps the guitars will ship without the extra solo buttons found on the official guitar? Whatever the case, the Mad Catz peripherals should hit the market in the first half of 2008.Oh, and it's probably safe to assume the guitars won't work with Guitar Hero III.
Mad Catz joystick clearance priced at Best Buy
XBLA buffs, if you're in the market for the old-school Mad Catz branded Retro Arcade Stick then make a stop at your local Best Buy (and possibly Future Shop) today.X3F reader Bryan sent us a tip telling us that the Mad Catz Retro Arcade Stick is being super clearance priced at Best Buy and picked his up for $9.99. We made a quick trip down to our BB to confirm the discount pricing and found the Arcade Stick clearanced to $14.99. Still not a bad deal seeing that the peripheral retails for $40 and it comes bundled with three XBLA games (Frogger, Timepilot and AstroPop). Your mileage may very, but if you've been somewhat interested in this peripheral or the Arcade games, then make your way to Best Buy and shop the clearance aisle. Saving cash, it's the fanboy way.
