Chessmaster Live checkmates XBLA in January

Calling all chess pros and rooks (badum-ching!) Soon there will be a new chess game in town and it's ready and able to challenge you to a few ego-breaking games.

Ubisoft just announced that the latest game in their Chessmaster series, Chessmaster Live will be making its way to the Xbox Live Arcade sometime in January. Chessmaster Live will include fleshed out features like ELO rankings, hundreds of AI opponents, complete Xbox Live integration, Vision camera support, various game boards and will even come with five chess variants off the bat (more will probably release later on as paid DLC). So ... Spyglass Board Games what?

It's about time we got a real chess game on XBLA. Chessmaster rocked on the PC: best chess game to own. (Battle Chess was amusing in its own way, though.)

I hope they include Chinese chess. Wonder if they could get the license for Knightmare Chess?

Looks cool. Too bad I don't have any idea how to play Chess.

Where's Checkermaster?

If it works like previous versions, it should be a pretty good teaching tool. (I can't say for sure because I already knew how to play, but it seems as though it came with plenty of training exercises.)

You read my mind.

I'd be more interested in Battle Chess than Chessmaster, c'mon who doesn't want to see their tower eating the queen XD

chess is a step in the right direction. Now give us draughts, scrabble and maybe monopoly. Infact ms could give us a whole range of board games on live, I know that I would definatley part with my ms points for those kind of titles.

XBLA is perfect for that type of game. I don't understand why Hasbro, or whoever has the rights to those games, hasn't ported them from PC to 360.

The camera is important because combined with the microphone it makes it more like sitting across the table from someone for a game. Talking and interacting make people more likely to play an honest game of chess, whereas playing a silent invisible opponent could tempt people to use chess computers to cheat and rank up.

Excellent point. To be honest, I was just going for cheap laughs with my comment, as I so often do here on X3F.

I still remember the first time I owned my buddy over Yahoo Chess by mirroring his moves as mine against an AI opponent on my Palm. (I would never do it to whore ranks - I just wanted to play with his head)

What about that 3D star trek:TNG chess... is that even a playable game... imagine that!

It's cool to see content like this on XBLA, but they should do this one as a twofer with something else.

If you like Battle Chess get Eye of Judgment on PS3 if you have one, lotta fun. (I have both systems - don't taz me bro) But a 360 version of Battle Chess would be big pimping. That was Interplay right? Where..oh where...are they now?

I just want to be able to play chess with my girlfriend on the 360, 2 controllers, just us. I have been waiting for this next generation advance to happen. On-line is fun, but we just want to play against each other. Seems simple enough...

Will this game offer it? I hope!!

you know what would sell me on this? the ability to play a game with a friend and send moves while the other player isn't signed on! that way we don't both have to be in front of the tv for however long a chess match would take
