Another look at Far Cry 2's amazing map editor

Want to build a pyramid from scratch and duke it out with your friends while making your way across the desert? Think building a few serpent rock sculptures would add a nice touch to your multiplayer deathmatch? Well, those examples and anything your creative mind can conjure are all possible using the Far Cry 2 map editor. Yes, the same map editor that made us "oo" and "ah" this past August. Watch Ubisoft's latest map editor trailer and witness its unmatched awesomeness.

Endwar demo commands Xbox Live

While some lucky gamers have been enjoying the EndWar demo for some time now, it's finally the rest of the public's turn to try out Ubisoft's voice controlled real time strategy title. The demo includes both single player and online multiplayer, so there should be plenty for everyone. We gave the demo a quick try and the voice control is definitely cool, although we have to admit it's a bit confusing at first. Of course, the demo doesn't really lay out every voice command, though there is a limited tutorial of sorts (you might want to look at this video for some pointers). Still, the voice control is surpisingly efficient. For those of you out there who have tried it, what do you think so far?

X3F TV -- Brothers in Arms: Hell's Highway Review

Brothers in Arms: Hell's Highway marks the first time the critically acclaimed World War II shooter has made its way to the Xbox 360 generation. Known for a dramatic look at the relationships and emotions of war, Hell's Highway continues the story of Staff Sergeant Matt Baker as his squad of 101st Airborne Division veterans this time as they push through the ultimately flawed plan of Operation Market Garden. How does the latest from publisher Ubisoft and developer Gearbox Software stack up? Check out our full video review.

Hell's Highway demo burns up the XBLM

Newly available on the Xbox Live Marketplace is a Brothers in Arms: Hell's Highway demo that (unlike the game's title sort of suggests) doesn't involve Satan or let you pave roads. The demo requires roughly 1.32GB of hard drive storage and should give you a taste of the look, feel and amount of violence the retail version of Hell's Highway has in store. Go ahead and give the demo a try because, really, what's the worst that could happen? A few gigs of your hard drive lost, a few hours of your life wasted and the corruption of your gaming soul?

Joystiq plays Prince of Persia, puts worries to rest

At recent ... ahem ... Sony press event, Joystiq got to lay their lucky, grubby little mitts on Prince of Persia, the latest chapter in the beloved series that is due this December. Taking many departures from the established formula -- among them cel shading, one-on-one combat, an AI partner, and open world gameplay -- there are many reasons to be wary of the title. Fortunately, according to Joystiq, it looks like our fears were unfounded. The game is reportedly looking great and, more importantly, fun. Hit the source link to check out Joystiq's full hands-on impressions (including another video).

X3F TV -- XBLA in Brief: Mega Man 9, War World

This is a pretty interesting week for Xbox Live Arcade. One one side of things, we have Mega Man 9, a brand new game in the series done in a retro style. On the other, we have War World, which the developers originally announced was scheduled to arrive last August. And yet, even a year from its missed debut, it's still one of the best looking XBLA games out there. So which is worth the dough, tough-as-nails platforming or online twitch multiplayer? Check out the latest installment of XBLA in Brief to find out.

Just how violent is Brothers in Arms: Hell's Highway?

Want to know a secret? Videogame adaptations of war can be pretty violent. Brothers in Arms: Hell's Highway is the recently released first-person shooter from UbiSoft that proves our point. Setting itself apart in gameplay style, Brothers in Arms: Hell's Highway features a light tactical overlay within its squad based system that allows players to control nearly all aspect of the soldiers under their command. According to Metacritic, if that's your thing, Brothers in Arms: Hell's Highway has been given generally favorable reviews; currently sitting with a score of 76. The trailer, found after the jump, showcases some of the more violent action in the game. Looking to see how insane war can be or just want to watch sheep react to physics through a grenade blast? Jump in.

War World brings war to the XBLA world this Wed.

Microsoft just announced that Third World Games' War World, an Arcade title that was revealed in 2006 and was supposed to release last August, will be kicking off October's Xbox Live Arcade goodness with its release this Wednesday.

War World, an explosive 3D mech shooter, will be available for 800 Microsoft points this Wednesday, October 1st and is releasing with all kinds of bells and mechanical whistles. The game supports 4 player Live co-op, online multiplayer, over 100 campaign levels, numerous multiplayer modes and "full HDR rendering". This title has been cooking in the development for far too long, hopefully it hasn't burnt to an unplayable crisp and will be worth the wait.

Tom Clancy's EndWar: Unit breakdown trailer

Time for a little more olds, today. Sure, this trailer landed earlier in the week but if you ever had any questions about Ubisoft's upcoming RTS Tom Clancy's EndWar, this trailer will answer them. Outlining the combat chain in EndWar, this trailer details each of the seven classes and discusses everything they can or cannot do.

Rumor: Splinter Cell gameplay and visuals have evolved

Remember in 1996 when the Xbox 360 exclusive Splinter Cell: Conviction was announced. We may have the date wrong but it was a long time ago, that we know for sure. Just when we were giving up home on Sam's return a report by Videogaming247 indicates that Conviction, which was pushed into 2009, has undergone a handful of changes.

According to the site an Ubisoft community development manager said Conviction is "certainly not canned," but that "the gameplay has evolved a lot" and "the visual direction is simply much better." Considering Sam has been dark since his Xbox 360 debut in October 2006 we'd hope the title was experiencing a substantial upgrade to compete with other high-profile stealth action games that will not be named.

We'd also like to think that Sam has returned to his sneaky Third Echelon roots instead of going all "emo" on us but only Tom Clancy knows for sure. Sadly, a name cannot speak and the artist formerly known as Tom Clancy doesn't make the rules anymore -- you know, since he sold his moniker.

UbiSoft announces VIP EndWar demo

Attention future squad commanders. The latest UbiSoft title with Tom Clancy's name stamped on its cover -- Tom Clancy's EndWar -- is nearly upon us and the folks at The U (aka UbiSoft) have seen fit to offer a training program for very special members of the platoon.

So to recap in English. An exclusive demo of Tom Clancy's EndWar will be available for those who pre-order the title at their local GameStop. Are you one of the crazy people who assumes you are able to walk into a game store and buy a game without an outlined plan? Ha! Well, for those who aren't pre-order fans UbiSoft is currently holding a contest for access into the super-exclusive VIP demo when it launches.

BTW - spoiler alert for EndWar, the war won't end. If it did what would the sequel be called? Tom Clancy's Fluffy Pony Adventures? Think about it.

Prince of Persia scales retail walls December 2

Ubisoft has announced that the Prince of Persia series refresh -- cleverly titled Prince of Persia -- will be shipping to stores on December 2. The Prince is joined this time around by a female co-star, Elika, who helps the prince in his quest to rid the world of whatever it is that needs ridding. The release date comes as good news for fans of Prince of Persia. Alas, it comes as bad, nay, solemn news to anyone putting the finishing touches on their holiday gaming budget. If you're head is reeling with the thought of financial crisis, allow us to make a suggestion. If your significant other politely says, "Oh, you don't have to get me anything this year," pretend that they actually mean it.

Far Cry 2 dev diary goes to Africa

Okay, forget the Halo 3 ViDocs. Forget the Too Human Goblin Man of Norway. We're prepared to call the first installment of the Far Cry 2 developer diary the best developer diary ever. It's not every day that a development team -- in this case Ubisoft Montreal -- travels to Kenya for research. The first in a series of developer diaries about the trip, this video covers the events leading up to departure. Even preparing for the trip sounds like it was quite an ordeal. In addition to briefings about what to expect (wild animals, corruption, etc.), each member was given over a dozen shots to prepare them for the possibility of disease. Risking malaria to make sure you get those tree bark textures just right? That's dedication.

Ubisoft to add subtitles to in-house games

Ubisoft has announced (in text format on gamesindustry.biz, appropriately enough) that it plans to begin supporting subtitles to its internally developed games, beginning with Far Cry 2, Prince of Persia, and Shaun White Snowboarding. The addition is being made in order to make the company's games more accessible to the deaf and hard of hearing. According to Ubisoft, this will require modifications to game engines already in use and also "inclusion of subtitles in the conception phase of game development."

Frankly, we can't live without subtitles (some people have to sleep at night, after all) and we're surprised that Ubisoft iis only now catching on to their necessity for many gamers. Still, it's a good move and we're sure many gamers will be happier as a result.

Recently, over on the official Far Cry 2 blog, Ubisoft made the announcement that Far Cry 2 (and it's jaw dropping map editor) will release to stores on October 23rd. In the same post, Ubisoft answers a few questions regarding the map editor including a description of the map sharing system and how the map rating system will work. And, because we want to, we embedded the latest Ubisoft supplied Far Cry 2 PAX trailer for your viewing enjoyment. No need to thank us ...
