The buzz around the interwebs as of late falls squarely on rumors of free Guitar Hero III DLC. Late last night, Major Nelson's RSS feed produced a blog post (which has been since removed) telling of a GHIII Companion Three Pack as a free download. The songs that were listed included AFI's "Carcinogen Crush", Manson's "Putting Holes in Happiness" and Flyleaf's "Tina". Sound familiar? Well, it should, because those are the exact same in-game tracks that you get free when you purchase the GHIII CD Soundtrack. After going straight to the source, Major Nelson confirmed to us that his GHIII DLC blog post was a mistake and that the three tracks are free downloads, but only with the use of a special code found within' the game's CD soundtrack as previously revealed. So, you'll have to shell out a few bucks for the CD to play these in-game tracks, because they are not coming to the Marketplace as free downloads anytime soon. Clarification kids ... that's what it's all about.

That's what I figured happened. I don't care enough to buy the soundtrack to get any of those.
The Manson remix sucks, by the way. As much as it might surprise some, their new album has a decent amount of guitar work on it and that song might have been fun to play… but the remix basically loops the same riff ad nauseum and gets rid of all of the lyrics except “putting holes in happiness”. I was disappointed.

How bad does this make MN look?? How do you make a blunder like this and expect people not to be mad. He did say the frenzy causing word "FREE" and he should now have to buy everyone the content HA-HA (just kidding!)

Huh? I'm not sure I'm understanding what the confusion is... but here's a link to the soundtrack for the game. The sale price of $10 isn't bad, honestly, considering I'm sure they'd want like 500 points for these songs to begin with.

If it's just a code, can't you just find someone who bought it and use their code?
