As many of you know, Valve's compilation of Half-Life 2, Team Fortress 2 and Portal all bundled together and marketed as the Orange Box released today (yes, Wednesday) and the reviews are looking on the up.According to the Orange Box metacritic page, the game is pulling in an average rating of 97 with perfect 100 scores coming from Yahoo! Games, EuroGamer, GameTap and GamePro. Yes, yes, we know there are only six reviews currently posted and the law of averages tends to predict that the game will fall a bit from its 97 perch, but seriously, the Orange Box is looking like an Xbox 360 winner. Then again, it's not like we ever doubted Valve's little color coded box-o-fantastic greatness. It's just that we now have metacritic proof and that gives us warm fuzzies.

I highly reccomend anybody on the sidelines about this game to go and just take the plunge and buy it.
I'll try and justify why in less than 5 points.
1) Value for money. 25+ hours of single player content (thats solid, intense, fully cinematic single player content, no boring corridors) and a multiplayer game that in my personal opinion, far outfun's halo 3's multiplayer for its variety and amazing team play.
2) The quality. Not only does half life 2 have amazing attention to detail, jaw-dropping first person cinematic sequences and massive banks of sound effects, it also carries graphics that still rival most current FPS games, and they've definitely been updated for the orange box.
3) The gameplay. Half life 2 for starters has amazing gameplay, especially for somebody new to the series. Its quite different to most other FPS and it feels less like a chore to kill lots of enemies and you can really take time and just soak in the world as you go about your gameplay.
4) Portal. Nuff said
5) Did i mention the quality? You basically wont ever find another FPS that has this much detail and individual craftsmanship to it. It doesn't feel like a level was designed and random groups of enemies were spread around the place, it really feels like each enemy and firefight was placed and designed one by one.
Seriously. I may be a long time fan of valve and half life, but i cant reccomend this game enough.
Its an FPS on a whole level of its own.

I preordered the PC version and I don't regret it, except that my circa-2004 PC groans and shudders under the load. I love TF2, of course (some more "new" stuff would be nice, but...), and I can't wait to get home and play some Ep2 or Portal.

Haha, I never said it wasn't a great game. Just that I'm going to stick with Halo 3, primarily cause I work a lot, and only play about 3-4 times a week. I was only interested in TF2, and it doesn't look waaaayyy more interesting than H3 for me to buy it.

I went in and picked up my preorder today, and the guys at my EBGames still had no idea about that 5 dollars off deal for preordering... They tried to convince me I was mistaken or something but I didn't back down. Eventually they just gave it to me, probably to just get me to leave the store.
But anyways, so far I've only been able to play Portal, and I love it! I'm almost finished with it (after only two hours...), so I decided I'm not gonna try any other games until I'm done with Portal.

wednesday was teh awesomeness. i was sitting at my place, UPS pulls up, friendly driver Andy handed me the envelope from gamestop.com. i opened it right there, because he wanted to see "The Orange Box" too, and see for himself that all 5 games were on one disc. lo and behold, all games rested on one DVD, ready to be spun up in my 360. i finished the first chapter of portal, and continued from where i left off from half life 2 on xbox, the ending.(means i played HL2:EP1)
portal is trippy as hell. once you get the fully powered portal gun(full ability to create a portal system), you find yourself completely ignoring puzzles, shooting a hole in the ground and then one right above it, to fall into a bottomless pit. and if you figure out your character is a chick, you might find yourself shooting portals just to stare at her ass. :D

Halo 3 has more customization in its little finger than TF2, provides much more fun for me, and has none of the lag!

The lag and lock up issues seem to be mostly fixed. Played for 2 hours last night with no lock ups and minimal lag. Yay!

Watch the language first of all! Secondly, I am in love with this game!!! Everything about it is just above and beyond anything else I've ever played! Half Life Two, Episodes one and two are all amazing!! Team Fortress 2 is soooo much more fun than Halo 3, except for the insane amounts of lag if you have a bad connection! Finally, Portal steals the show!! That has to be the most mind bending and hilarious game I have ever played!!! 9.7/10
