New GoW PC content not coming to the 360

The Advanced Media Network sat down with Epic's Mark Rein and Cliffy B to chat about their big E3 announcements and learned some sad news about the new Gears of War PC content. When questioned about whether or not the new campaign missions or multiplayer maps announced for the PC version would be headed to the Xbox 360, Rein said it was "unlikely [that] we will bring that content to 360". Cliffy B further emphasized their doubt by stating that "if we didn't have any sort of exclusive on the PC, why would people buy the PC version?". The Epic crew explained that bringing the PC content over to the 360 would be an extremely time consuming task and that they're currently focused on other projects like Unreal Tournament 3.

Being the Gears fan that I am it's hard to hear that new, exciting multiplayer AND campaign content will be available, but not for 360 owners. And no, there's no way I'm personally buying a beefy computer to run Gears of War PC just to experience the new content. No matter how you slice the news it sucks for 360 owners and Gears enthusiasts ... it's simple as that. Now, I'm going to go cry myself to sleep.

[Thanks, Jason S]

At the end of the year, if the PC content isn't on 360 I'm trading Gears in. When Gears 2 comes out, if the PC content still isn't on 360, I'm RENTING Gears. I'm not supporting Epic.

I'm not sure if I'm going to get UT3 now either, there are plenty of other games on 360 that are looking just as good, if not better then Gears and UT3.

Is 'Cliffy' a completely douchebag? He wants everybody that already bought it on the 360 to buy it again on the PC or what? My first thought is 'UHHH People that have a PC and no 360 would probably be the ones to buy it, what would it matter if it had ANY exclusive content' but yeah, what do I know.

@35,

I agree that the Unreal game franchise was never considered anything special in terms of being a "killer-app."

Unreal is a franchise just like Doom. It was the sort of game series that Epic first became known for, just like Doom was the first game series that the company called id-software became known for. And in the same way that Epic developed a graphics engine and named it after their first game series--Unreal, id-software created a graphics engine and named it after their first game sieries--the Doom graphics engine.

Gears of War is definitely 100% the game that put Epic on the map. It's easy to say that Epic should name their next graphics engine "Gears of War Graphics Engine," but the problem with that is the Microsoft has purchased the Intellectual Property rights to Gears of War, which means that multiplatform developers and businessmen that run those companies might interpret a "Gears of War Graphics Engine" as being optimized only for the Xbox or PC platforms.

In all honesty, the Unreal Graphics Engine has been receiving a lot of complaints lately for the PS3. It was actually a help to the Xbox 360 that the game Unreal will be released 3 months earlier on the PS3, because it will give third-party developers more confidence in the Unreal Graphics Engine. In reality, that HELPS the Xbox 360! Look at the way companies like Square Enix now use the Unreal Graphics Engine more than anything else, and release games either exclusively for the Xbox 360 or in a multi-platform way when the Unreal engine is used. That obviously has HELPED the Xbox 360.

The cool thing is that the Xbox 360 versions of games using the Unreal graphics engine are always better. The Xbox 360 version of the Unreal graphics engine is nearly identical to the PC version. Those two versions receive two-thirds of the resources. The PS3 version is different and receives only one-third of the resources.

The Unreal Graphics Engine really has been a form of trojan horse victory for the Xbox 360, because it is the most used graphics engine in the industry, and it is better on the PC and Xbox 360. The market for PC and Xbox 360 is so huge, it cannot be ignored. If a developer decides to use the Unreal graphics engine for a PS3 game, it would be incredibly inexpensive to put that game on the PC and Xbox 360--two platforms with a MUCH LARGER installed base of users and potential buyers of the product.

If Epic won't bring that 1 new act with the 5 extra chapters to the Xbox 360 in the form of additional downloads, just so they can sell the PC version of the game, I think that sucks!

If they are going to try and force people who already own the Xbox 360 versioin of the game to buy the PC version of the game, just so they can be selfish and greedy, to try and make more money, then I will be selfish and greedy, too.

My friends and I have already decided we are going to get Gears of War PC...the pirated version for free!

@44 dude stfu what the hell are u writing a thesis for. First of all how do you know that the Unreal engine is optimized just for the 360what games have come out on the PS3 that Proves that. If you know this info and its true im sure as hell the devs do already and theywouldn't bother practicing on the PS3 and you act like Epic isplaying on the behalf of MS the only reason why PS3 doesnt have GoWis like what you said MS purchased the "Intellectual Property rightsto Gears of War". Wasnt the PS3 the hardest format to develop for whystart there. Im guessing Epic is having problems with MS360 Becauseof no user based content/Mouse and Keyboard(optional)/Giving thercontent away 4 free when they want/ or maybe Microsoft is 2 controlling whenit comes to big sellers dispite what fanboys say! NOT everybody likes Halo(I like it)A LONG WINDED REBUDLE 4 A LONG WINDED REBUDLE!!! SORRY 4 Double Post

Know what, FUCK EPIC.

First the UT3 PS3 announcment and now this? Know what Epic? U can Just Keep GOW on the pc then dick heads and see how that works out for you.
This game would have been perfect for that game anywhere shit MS is trying to get going. And in all rights, us 360 owners deserve this content. Right now, the only people higher on my shit list than EPIC is REDOCTANE with thier GH2 DLC BS. WTFIGOHPF!!!

U know, Epic could still let the pc have the content for a month or so then make it available on 360 and still get the desired effect they want for the pc version. Not just strait up shun the platform that made the game what it is.

Not sure why so many people are mad at Epic.... The game is PUBLISHED by MICROSOFT GAMES STUDIO.

So, if MICROSOFT would have like to keep it exclusively for the 360, they would have done it. That's what contracts are for!!! So it's Microsoft that is greedy here, not Epic.

On the other side, Epic didn't had to say that UT3 for the PS3 would look way much better than GOW.

Why should we buy GoW2 on X360 then? Why not wait for an UNCUT version on PC, with all chapters in place? This is the worst excuse ever, just screaming "we want Xbox owners to buy PC edition also!". Well, guess what - most PC owners will download the game for free anyway.

Yeah just like that other guy posted. Of course they are going to give it to us but they arent announcing it just yet so the PC version can start selling as well. But it wouldve been perfect if it would have had 6 Acts when I bought it on my 360. Best game everrrrrrr!!! Shit Yeah!!!
