Joystiq recently got a chance to try out Gears of War for the PC at DigitalLife. The verdict: it's Gears of War alright. Beyond some necessary changes made to the control scheme for mouse users, the game is essentially the same one we all fell in love with last November. Joystiq does note that the visuals are markedly improved and pulling off headshots is (expectedly) much easier with a mouse. The build at Digital Life has its share of problems and bugs, but such problems should be ironed out in time for the game's release later this year. Hit the "read" link for Joystiq's full hands-on impressions.

actually, if gears 360 was any indication, those bugs will NOT be banged out by launch. :P

if you add a mouse to a console FPS it just won't be a console FPS. The ID with the console is everyone will have the same limitations in form of information input.

I'm fine with the controller, I could probably take on any KB & Mouse user.

@intentless - yeah, i figured as much. but cant you argue the fact that its your choice? so if you want to use a gamepad and get pwned by Mouse users so be it.
@Ogden2k - sorry ogden. you might be able to take on your Average Joe MouseUser but not a Gamer Mouseuser.

@ Mauricio
It shouldn't be a choice, because everyone will have a KB and M setup an once again it not a console. Most important word there is console. If I want a KB and M experience I go on my PC.
It is only fair. I know on the PC the competition is also using a KB and M so I expect a level of precises shooting (in the FPS case) whereas on a console I expect everyone is using a controller and will not have a unfair advantage with precise shooting.

Gears was the lamest game of all. The campaign was awfully short and MP just got old after playing same thing over and over on same map for 9 freaking rounds.
Why is X3F starting to write about everything (including Halo on DS, PC gears, HD-DVDs).....perhaps change the blog name from X3F to VideoGameFanBoy or something.

They all relate to the 360, I don't see what the problem is.
Gears of War is a major 360 game. People care what's going on with the PC side of things when it includes new content.
Halo is a MS published game, its status on the DS is interesting.
HD-DVDs work on the HD-DVD player.
Etc.

Personally, I loved Gears. Have to admit I am a bit jealous of our PC gamer brothers!

@spartan029 - i dont mind reading about other stuff besides the 360. keep it coming guys.
@pkilla - i understanda that its a console but is there a law that says the xbox must use gamepads for fps games? were gamers, were not babies. Microsoft should let us choose. im debating whether or not to get TF2 for the xbox or pc just so i can use a KB/MS. maybe i'll get both.
@otam - im glad i bought my xbox for the plethora of great games that are available for it - or will be available within the next 12 months.

It's the principal if it Mauricio. I am a huge Xbox and video game fan. I have the original Xbox and got my 360 on launch day, console number ONE from the store. I was the FIRST pre-order in the store, that's how diehard I am into games. It's the point of being told all these huge AAA games arent available anywhere else then on Xbox 360 and they surface on the PC. A PC plays games,it's INCLUDED in the world of games,so don't tell me it's not available anywhere else.
Apparently they've gotten enough complaints about this because if you look on the Bioshock case it says "Only on Xbox & Windows"

@OTAM - dude, i totally see where youre coming from. But you cant fault Microsoft for Epic's doings. Then again, did Epic really know they were gonna release a game for the PC with extra content? maybe, maybe not. im just glad they put out a great game on the 360 and provide other developers with an excellent engine to create other great games.

I may be a bit behind the times, but what is the extra content on PC?
Also, for some reason I just don't like playing games on my computer. There's something about sitting on the couch with a controller in my hand, playing on a dedicated gaming system, even if the controls aren't as "precise".

Way to screw out 360 owners, Epic. Bunch of assholes.

The extra content people are so flustered about Lianne is the real boss battle that the early adopters of the game where cheated out of. With all the "great" shooters out on the 360 there is not one with an epic and satisfying boss battle. None of them are creative or threatening.

Woah hold on, the Big Daddies might have something to say about that! Also in my eyes Gears still rules so any news about it is always a good read.
