Too Human blowout continues, new video

IGN's massive Too Human blowout continues with an interview with the developers at Silicon Knights. In case you haven't been keeping up, IGN has already featured a new video, a retrospective, and a 5 page hands on preview. The most recent interview goes behind the scenes to learn what tweaks have been made to the game over its (very) long development cycle. The team discusses concerns that the game will be considered a Devil May Cry or God of War clone and what ultimately separates Too Human. Also discussed is the game's detailed combat system, the RPG elements, and the battle cries and Ruiners, which act as special class-based abilities. For example, you might heal your allies or summon a spirit to help you fight. Finally, the team discusses the item drop system and the game's hub world. Anyone familiar with Diablo and other dungeon crawlers will likely feel right at home (right down to 4-player online co-op). Hit the "read" link for the full interview. Be sure to check out the new video above before you go.

This game Lady's and Gents is the reason I will now be buying a 360 asap.

Dead Rising was cute, Gears was cool and Crackdown was fun but this, a bono fide epic science fiction rpg with no dull turn based combat...

This is truly the game I have always longed for.

Going to check this all out. Thanks for pointing it out. I've remained optimistic about the title.

I'm actually kind of impressed by the facial animation in the video you embedded.

I've been excited about this game since it was announced at X05. The media blowout is just building more anticipation.

The 360 definitely needs more games like this. Shooters are fine, but some of us like other types of games as well. And Too Human looks to combine aspects of several different genres in one exciting trilogy.

This video reminds me a bit of the PC adventure game, "The Longest Journey," one of the best adventure titles of all time.... The game looks sweet!

the more I see of this game, the worse it looks. I dont like this random hacking ans slashing stuff. Hopefully there is a demo for the game so I can see if its any fun with all that stuff the developers say is in it.

I dont like silicon knights tho. They WAY over hype their own products. I remember eternal darkness and buying into the hype for so long. I then got the game, beat it in 5 hours and thought "meh" an sold it. That sanity thing they did with it was not as good as they made it out to be. Hopefully too human will be better, I just wish they would stop hyping their game so much like its going to revolutionize the xbox

What were you expecting from this game though? It was always going to have that DMC feel to it, they've touted it as an Action RPG right from the start.

I don't know what you mean that it 'looks worse' were you talking about the graphics? It was amazing! I don't know how you could come to that conclusion..

Yeah, really, it's turning out pretty much exactly how they were saying it would since they began discussing its appearance on the 360. It's kind of unfair to completely malign a game because you're not interested in its genre... but from what they're saying, it hardly seems hack and slash to me. Hopefully their claims will turn out to be true, though.

SK hasn't really hyped up this game at all. They've remained quiet about it pretty much all along and have leaked out only pretty minor information. IGN made a story out of all of this, Denis Dyack isn't running around like a madman like he did with ED (although I thought that was a good game, so what can I say).

Sincerely hoping this doesn't become another "Advent Rising." I was very excited about that, which was also planned out as a trilogy, and well look what happened...

Two concerns:

1) Animations. Combat looks like it might not have any "oomph" to it. Player and enemy attack animations looked a little generic, like you'll be watching the exact same ones over and over again through out the game. I really hope they give attack animations and damage animations a little more relevance to one another.

I'm also hoping that you can "feel" your characters weight a little when moving through the environment. On eye shot it looks like the action could feel a little floaty, and the IGN writers comments on this concern as well.

2) What's with every developer using the same five actors to voice their main videogame characters? Whoever plays the voice of Baldur is the same guy who voices the alien squad-mate character in the Mass Effect demo vids, and probably about 1000 other game characters to boot.

Can't we find some new voice talent already?

Nothing against these actors or their work, but the recognition is starting to intrude on the story for me. There's nothing like your central character sounding exactly the same as he guy you played as in game X to make you worry about the voice acting.

It surprises me that Silicon Knights (who I love, admire, and respect) didn't pick up on this idea. Being so big on promoting their storytelling, and Too Human being this decade in the making opus, you'd think someone would've thought to hire non-derivative VO talent for the guy you'll be playing as for the next three games.

Don't get me wrong, I can't wait for Too Human. It looks fantastic. It's just a quibble I have with games in general as of late, and one that GTAIV (hopefully) seems to be addressing.

I hope Too Human pulls it off. Can't wait to play it.

Stranger, maybe its because the talent pool is too small that these companies wanting to hire the best are left with few choices? I honestly don't see your point here, would you prefer they hired someone else who maybe had a wierd-ass suckier voice just to be different? Do you actually mind that Tom Cruise starred in both Top Gun and War of the Worlds? I really don't see your point! Movies recycle good talent too, it's simply the only pragmatic thing to do next to growing yourself a test-tube voice actor.
