F.E.A.R. the PS3 vs 360 comparison
Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 graphics comparisons aren't anything new, but when a multiplatform game releases we figure we'll just keep dishing out the video goods. Showcased above is a graphical brawl between the 360 and PS3 versions of F.E.A.R. and even though the small embedded video isn't the perfect graphical representation, we have a difficult time telling the difference. Even after downloading the HD comparison video it's still hard to tell which version is graphically superior. Maybe it was just a good porting job from the PC version to both consoles, who knows, but to us they look the same. We'll leave it in your hands fellow fanboys, watch the video and start a mini fanboy war or just dismiss this comparison and call it a draw.

Was it just me or did the 360 version sound better. For example when he fired the gun on the 360 it sounded rich and bold and loud. On the ps3 it sounded quiet and sharp.

i thought the 360 version has nicer textures, while the PS3 version had better lighting(effects not brightness). Thats the only difference i could barely notice.

Does anyone ever question if these obviously biased fanboy fueled comparisons have any worth? Smash talking and comparisons to the competition ... something that never gets old?
In any case ... gentlemen ... I have to side with the 360 version ... in a surprising take no prisoners ... brute force style of move ... that in no way is me hiding my insecurities about the console I bought and love ... over an internet web blog ...

Here are several important factors to consider:
1. Game Informer magazine did a detailed side-by-side comparison of these two games, and the magazine editors made it clear the Xbox 360 version has sharper graphics, with better lighting, and higher quality textures. Game Informer pointed out that they used both the Component and HDMI cables, each bought separately, for the PS3 version, while the Xbox 360 version used Component cables included with system. Even with that sort of advantage offered to the Playstation 3, the Xbox 360 still outperformed the Playstation 3. Just stop and think how much better the Xbox 360 version would look if you were to just used those crappy Composite cables included with the Playstation 3! No doubt about it, Game Informer made it clear the Xbox 360 version of F.E.A.R. is the best version. They said the same thing about NBA Street: Homecourt when they did the comparison that month.
2. Obviously, F.E.A.R. is a port of a PC game, and it isn't really meant to optimize either the Xbox 360 or PS3 hardware. But, the fact that the PS3 version once again has framerate problems is a VERY common problem with Playstation 3 games. Games like Call of Duty 3 have perfectly smooth framerates on the Xbox 360, but are very choppy on the Playstation 3.
The PS3 has access to only 256MB of RAM for its CPU. The Xbox 360 has access to up to 512MB of CPU RAM. Lack of RAM is one of the fundamental reasons why framerate problems occur, and that is one of the reasons why framerate problems occur in so many Playstation 3 games--F.E.A.R. obviously being one of them.
3. The Xbox 360 has superior lighting and shading technology than DirectX 9 PC gaming. The Xbox 360 was designed around the much newer Unified Shader DirectX 10 architecture used by PC Games for Windows Vista more than anything. The GPU in the Xbox 360 and the overall programming environment is far ahead of its time because of that.
The Xbox 360 has a superior dark atmosphere. The Xbox 360 uses darker polygons that can be affected by light in greater ways than the PS3 version. The PS3 version of the game uses brighter types of polygons, almost flat-looking polygons, because the lighting of the PS3 isn't as good as the Xbox 360. The PS3 Graphics Processing Unit is based on four-year old PC technology from Nvidia, while the Xbox 360 GPU is based on new technology dedicated to Windows Vista. There have been several games on both systems where this has occured, and in true night scenes, the Xbox 360 versions have looked noticeably better, particularly in some of the racing games and sports games.
4. One thing to remember here is that although both the Xbox 360 and the PS3 versions of the game are considered "ports," it is crucial to remember that the Playstation 3 version took MUCH longer to develop!
Development time has been a problem like this for the Playstation 3 with many games. Look at the way Oblivion was also delayed for the Playstation 3, and the PS3 version still doesn't have access to the Shivering Isles expansion the Xbox 360 version does. This is one of the reasons why the PS3 version of the game wasn't rated as high as the Xbox 360 version.
Just think about how Ghost Recon: Advanced Warfighter 2 has been on the Xbox 360 for a while now, but it still isn't available for the Playstation 3. That just shows how difficult and time consuming it is to program games for the Playstation 3, because of its poorly designed gaming architecture.
Stop and think about this: The Xbox 360 and the Playstation 3 both received the Final Versions of their Development Kits during the summer of 2006. Those development tools are what the developers have access to all the power the system has to offer. The Xbox 360 launched in time for Christmas of 2005, so the Development Kits weren't finished. Pre-Alpha Development Kits were used that only gave developers access to one-sixth of the Xbox 360 General Purpose CPU power. But the Playstation 3 launch was delayed, and all of the developers of PS3 games were able to access those Final Development Kits for about SIX MONTHS before the launch of the Playstation 3! So, you would tend to think the PS3 games might look better, but that isn't the case at all...the Xbox 360 versions of games look noticeably better! Gamespot did a comparison of the games on both systems, and the Xbox 360 versions have smoother framerates, more detail, better lighting, higher quality textures, and faster load times according to the analysis by Gamespot in regards to the group of games appearing on both systems that were evaluated, which was all of them at the time.
F.E.A.R. on the Xbox 360 was released in the fourth-quarter of 2006. This means F.E.A.R. for the Xbox 360 had access to the Final Version of the Xbox 360 Development Kit for around six months time.
The Playstation 3 version of the game is released about five months later! This means the PS3 version had access to the Final Version of the PS3 Development Kit for a much longer period of time! With that in mind, we can say that even though the Playstation 3 version of F.E.A.R. was allowed to be in development for all that extra time, and the developers had access to Final Development Kits for all that time, the Playstation 3 version still didn't end up as good as the Xbox 360 version according to the professionals at Game Informer magazine.
What else needs to be said. The Xbox 360 version is the best one to get, and when you consider that the Playstation 3 version is just released, it costs $59, while the Xbox 360 version is now considered a "top-seller," so it can have its price reduced to $39.99. I have seen F.E.A.R. on sale several times for that price.
I like the idea of buying the Best Product First on the Xbox 360, and buying it for a lower price!

As long as the 360 is $200-$300 cheaper than the PS3 and continues to produce graphics equal to or better than the PS3...This is definitely not a draw.

Wow that was long but true and i getting a ps3 in 2-3 weeks and this is definitly a draw back i guess its true what EVERYONE but sony and their fanboys are saying that only ps3 exclusives will show equal or better graphics than 360 and that certainly isnt good considering how they boasted the ps3 superiority to the point where it seemed ps3 could do anything

the 360 version is definetly better than the ps3 version in many many ways! ps3's version looks like gray-ish and little brighter compared to the 360's more darker appeal. well, i guess, that ps3 is NOT the MOST POWERFUL console after all, is it? and what hidden potential these ps3 fan-dweebs are talking about the ps3? just be content on the performance of your ps3, because it will never get any better than my xbox 360, ok? you, ps3 fan-dweebs had been duped by sony with all of their empty and broken promises--but all is not lost! start saving your hard-earned cash for few weeks and go buy yourself an xbox 360, because it has tons of awesome games coming out like, halo 3 forza motor-sport, guitar heroes 2 and soon---gears of war 2, just to name a few! so,...start saving money now...it is not too late to switch side yet.

all you saying the PS3 should look way better are retards and dont understand How Ports work. And For all you saying Its washed out,who determined the 360 one was correct?? Maybe the PS3 is correct and 360 is to dark. Ive noticed thats very common with 360 all the games are dark, like it cant handle blending and wants to hide from using AA by making you not be able to see any lines or bad textures. they look almost the Same but your agruements are invalid people
