360 bundle rings a (Trusty) Bell in Japan

As a rule, if you want to sell consoles in Japan, you'd better have some good RPGs available. Microsoft knows this, and is doing everything in its power to secure some decent Japanese titles for it's uphill battle in the Land of the Rising Sun. Late last year, Microsoft released a Blue Dragon bundle, which quickly sold out and gave the Xbox 360 a hearty but brief boost. Microsoft looks to repeat that success by bundling the 360 with the upcoming RPG from Namco and tri-Crescendo, Trusty Bell (known as Eternal Sonata in the west). X3F readers will recall that Eternal Sonata left Joystiq with a good impression in March. The bundle will include an Xbox 360 core system, Trusty Bell, and a special soundtrack DVD. The bundle's price has not yet been set. Of course, you can tack on the price of a memory card or hard drive to the bundle's price, as players won't be able to save their progress otherwise. While Trusty Bell isn't likely to have the same impact as Blue Dragon, it is expected that the RPG will generate a small amount of "buzz" for the console.

The new bundle will be available on June 14th in Japan.

1. Pricing up a bundle with an RPG and no way to save a game is practically criminal in my book. It's a terrible underhanded tactic and I hope they stop it, becasuse they're not going to be making many friends this way.

2. I believe the "Core" version in Japan is our "Premium" version here. I think that all of the Xboxes come with hard drives.

3. Dammit, bring one of them to the states already! Why does translating a game take so long! I understand with fan-translations like the Earthbound one, no one is getting paid, but c'mon, I want a good old school RPG, Trusty Bell preferred, but Blue Dragon will be accepted.

4. @PacoDG,

It's not just translation that's done, but localization as well. This includes (sometimes) tweaking things to better suit western tastes (depending on the game in question, this alone can be a considerable task), redubbing any spoken dialogue, translating all of the text (and we all know how wordy Japanese rpgs can get). Then the game needs to go through the same QA/Approval process that any new game would before they can even begin printing them.

Also, if memory serves, Blue Dragon is just around the corner. Personally I'm far more excited about Trusty Bell. :)

5. A triangle is the strongest shape in geometry. Microsoft's Japanese-sales-triangle is composed of Trusty Bell, Blue Dragon, and Lost Odyssey... I'll be buying all three, but what else is coming?

6. Microsoft needs to make an adjustment to the Core system:

1. The audio/video cable form the Premium Xbox 360 needs to be added to the Core 360. The reason for this is because even though the people may not have a high-definition tv, they still have regular TV sets with Component inputs, and that would save the people a LOT of money by not having to go and separately purchase the Component cables.

One other thing: If Microsoft is going to sell an RPG as pack-in sort of thing with the Core version of the system that doesn't include the hard drive, then it would be a good idea to include the 64MB version of the memory card. That much is OBVIOUS, and whoever didn't think of that in Japan should be fired!

8. I am pretty excited for blue dragon just cuz it looks like a great game with a great storyline and gameplay elements...but i really dont care for the character models. the environments look great though. but im going to buy blue dragon ANYWAYS.

lost odyssey looks pretty badass...a little dissapointed about random battles, but not a big deal.

but Eternal Sonata looks nothing short of AMAZING!
From the artistic style, to the environments to the story and the use of amazing classical music. I am VERY excited about this one.
