A lot of people shot this down for various reasons, but I think it's still impressive given that it's not the new guy anymore. There's always sales associated with that.

The PS3 isn't doing quite as badly as people lead you to believe, it seems. Maybe that'll taper down more, but who can say. I actually did see a HUGE stack of PS3s for the first time yesterday, though. I was starting to think that was an exaggeration until I saw it for myself.

The Wii can sell as many consoles as it likes, but so long as the games aren't fit for viewing on an HDTV (even with the comonent cable, looking at games on HDTVs is painful), and are made for the 2-10 and 75+ age categories, I'll stay away thank you.

What they've done with the Wiimote is cool, but little more than a novelty for me. I'll takes GRAW, R6 Vegas, and Gears over Warioware and Zelda any day of the week.

Sadly, I may pick up a PS3, but specifically as a Blu-Ray player. I would prefer it if HD DVD would have more studio support (I own 2 HD DVD players), but it doesn't seem likely to happen. And with BRD releasing tons of titles in comparison to HD DVDs paltry releases from a week to week basis (that is if there are any releases in a given week), there are simply more titles to choose from. I hate to support a Sony format (or Sony at all for that matter), but it seems to have the upper hand, and to deny myself lots of HD goodness to avoid Sony is just plain stupid IMO.

PS3s have been stacked here in IL even at christmas. I don't think MS has to worry about the Wii too much. They are very different systems as where the PS3 and 360 are in direct competetion. I myself would not mind owning both a 360 and a Wii. The Wii is more for casual gaming and playing when you have people over. The 360 is more popping kids in the face and oogling at graphics.

i wonder how many people, if any, are buying a Wii INSTEAD of a 360 (or PS3). they really aren't in the same league. i wouldn't mind having a wii, it looks fun, but i wouldn't buy it instead of a 360. in other words is the Wii bringing in non-gamers or is it taking away from 360/PS3 sales?

I have a 360 right now and am looking for a Wii. But I still can't find one. the 360 is a nice system, but it just doesn't have the games that the Wii will or already has.

If I were in Microsoft's shoes, I'd be a little worried about the Wii outselling the Xbox in January... but not too much.

Even in the worst case scenario, the 360 still has a 1-year installed based headstart over the other systems, which will continue paying dividends for the rest of this console generation.

If I were in Sony's shoes... coming in 3rd to two consoles you dominated last generation? I'd be pretty worried. Maybe they can blame it on supply issues for a few more months, but they could be in serious trouble if they can't start outselling the Wii.

I agree with those putting the Wii in a different category than Xbox 360 and PS3. Nintendo will succeed with their goal and I congratulate them. The interesting number here is the PS3 vs. 360. I've been waiting for these numbers because I think they tell a lot. As it was well documented and many personally experienced, the PS3 was not difficult to find shorty after Christmas and throughout January. The fact that the 360 outsold it says a lot and I feel is a good indication of what we'll continue to see throughout the year.

I don't think people give the Wii the credit it deserves. It is kickin the hell out of 2 more powerful systems, and odds are it will continue to. I've STILL never seen a Wii box in a store. Whatever they're (Nintendo) doing is working, because they've been killing the competition on every level, to include handhelds for over a decade now, and it hasn't even been very close. Maybe because they make games and games only; and they don't depend on intense graphics to make great games (Mario Kart, Super Smash Bros., etc) The cartoony appearance makes most adults shy away, but parents feel comfortable buying the system for their kids. No worries about little Billy being called a dickwad ni**er lover over XBox Live and repeating it, or smacking up his bitches on GTA on the PS3. And the parents have the jobs to fund most gaming. Adult gamers of this generation (because most of us were raised gaming) tend to forget about the younger demographic. The Wii will continue to kill. As far as the PS3, when games start to roll out that are decent (which took the 360 a while as well) people will get on board, and Sony will kill again. A year this time next year will be and exciting time for gaming, because the competition is going to be thick, and we all know who wins when gaming wars start...

Like someone stated above, the Wii is in a different category than the 360 and the PS3. Nintendo has two bonifide hits out in the market right now, the Wii and the DS are both hot items and are flying off the shelves. MS and Sony have staked out a different buyer than Nintendo; Ninty is after the non-gamer. MS went after the hardcore gamer and XboxLive is further cementing MS's online domination, especially compared to the Playstation Store with it's lean offerings. Sony is hoping enough early adopters will help establish the Blu-Ray beachead and defeat HD-DVD. And if they sell a few games along the way, thats good too, but the PS3 is a Blu-Ray Trojan Horse primarily.

I believe the "next-gen" console war is not going to be 'won' in this decade. The 360 and PS3 have enough tech and inherent adaptability to remain relevant for years to come. The Wii, by comparison, has limited growth. The challenge for Ninty is to develop captivating gameplay year after year, and at an increased rate then they have shown with the Gamecube. MS and Sony have the visual advantage that can at times trump average gameplay, and we all know that graphics will attract people in droves.

The current console sales figures for the Wii are as expected, and the high demand will continue for awhile. The PS3 needs high profile exclusives to carry it. If a game is multi-platform, and is basically the same on the 360 and PS3; which version would you buy and why? Barring blatent brand slave mentality, I believe the 360 has the one thing to beat the PS3; Acheivement Points. Acheivement Points add replayabilty into the game, give bragging rights to those that need them, and more importantly Acheivements are a way to get a pat on the back for completing something. And you can only get that with the 360.

I have a Wii and Ive had my 360 a year this month. And I like both. I enjoy playing my Wii cause it has a different playability than any console has ever had. Its just fun.

I also have the HD DVD, and Ive thought about buying a PS3 just for the blue ray, cause none of their games intrest me right now, but I think Ill wait another year or two till this format bulls#!t is cleared out.

#2 you dont know what your talking about. My Wii looks great on my 50" HDTV . You can choose widescreen or standard. Of course it doesnt have the power of the 360 for graphics, but that not their goal. Which I think Nintendo has made a great point, Graphics arent the only thing that matter, make the system and games fun and people will be happy.

I'd hate to say it, but I do frequently think of the Wii as kinda like the PS2. You guys have to remember... for all of us here on this site, who ponied up $500 plus hours, spend hours upon hours on our 360's, blasting other players, shaving split seconds off our lap times, and reaching rank S... there's always that guy who just plays Madden, or chick who likes to break out Cubivore (see: my girlfriend) from time to time.

And there is something to be said about gaming on a budget. I encourage casual gamers to get ps2s... though I hate them... but if they're just gonna play a couple games from time to time,w hat's the point of having them drop that much $?

So as far as I'm concerned... glad nintendo is doing well... but they're not really catering to GAMERS anymore. they're opening the market... and good on them (though I wouldn't be surprised if they bomb down the line).
