Are you new to Gears of War's online multiplayer? Have you been playing online for a while, but just can't get the hang of it and wonder what the heck you are doing wrong? If you answered yes, then we have a guide just for you. GamingPhreak.com posted their guide to being successful at Gears of War's online multiplayer. The guide is pretty detailed covering host advantage, basic strategy, weapon analysis, and finding your niche. We can safely say that this guide will help those of you who have just recently wet your feet in multiplayer and are ready to dive in head first. Good read, good luck, and get learned!
[Thanks, iQue]

@eLiNeS: Try sending them a tip rather than making ridiculous comments in every article.
Honestly, I knew all of this stuff to begin with. Play the game long enough, and that stuff becomes second nature.

"If you can’t get on the host’s team, quit, and find another game. Keep trying until you are on the host’s team, or can get enough people together to make your game look inviting from the game selection menu."
Thanks to this little golden nugget of information, the other team should leave mid-game, ruining the fun and chances are anyone who is left behind is doomed to lose the match.
Hopefully this article series concentrates more on actual techniques and honing your skills than this crap.

not true. Many people dont learn the strategies. I got an hour break today at school, Ill work out a much better guide then these guys and post it on the xbox forums.
These guys mention a host advantage but they dont specify why it is, how it happens, and most important, how to take out a player who has really good host advantage. Its important to know how to win a fight when your outclassed by another player. Having the best aim does not mean victory. I win mostly all the time and I ONLY play on the opposite team of the host (I want a challenege). I plan on releaseing a video walkthrough as well.

It's nice of the guy to write a guide but some of the stuff is completely backward to what gaming is about and he sounds like exactly the type of little bitch I try to avoid online.
ALWAYS playing the same maps and then having a hissy fit and quitting if you won't play 'his' maps.
"...There are many maps at your disposal. Find the one that works for you (and your team) and stick with it."
"...If you suck at a map, or if it doesn’t suit your playing style, then why play it at all?"
Umm, to get better at it???
Being an arse and not joining whatever team needs players to get a game going.
"...As soon as their name shows up on the other side, quickly join the side with your buddies on it. You have to do this because the game forces even teams. Sometimes you’ll encounter a guy who is stubborn and won’t switch sides. The best way to beat this guy is to be stubborn right back and just wait until he leaves."
I stopped reading after this.
I understand rank is EVERYTHING to some people but if you're gonna act like 2 year-olds what's the f**king point?
I bet this dude used to take his ball home if he wasn't winning a game of footy.

Yeah wow thats a great help, quite if you can't get on the host's team.
What people really need to do is actually play compaign(sp?)first instead of just rushing online like idiots. and Parents need to stop letting their kids play this game. Also, play player matches instead of rank so you can get better when you do play ranked games. RTFM

This guide is complete utter bullshit. If you take this guide seriously, most people will not want to play with you, and if you do follow it, you'll probably end up being owned by me online if I run into you. There is a host advantage sure, if the host has a shit connection. When I host a game and my friends test the speed, when they shoot at a wall it hits right away. I play with my friends online and switch up who is host, we all still get random points, I can be the host and be in last place, also my friends could be host and they could end up being in last place.
The shotgun is not more powerful if you are the host and you do not have the ability to stick people at farther ranges you fu**ing dumb ass who wrote the guide. They just fire off earlier, and if you are better or as good as the host, you have a chance of whooping his ass. I've played against hosts many times and owned them, if there was such a huge advantage, I should be getting owned everytime.
Don't listen to this guide, you wouldn't be much of a gamer if you did, you'd be a person who sucks at games and would do anything to do better, even this unsportsmanship crap.

"I would save the smoke grenade tag for those special times when you happen upon someone from behind who is oblivious to your location. In that situation, you want to tag (b button), switch to shotgun, then blast."
this is the dumbest thing i've ever heard. if you can get that close to someone, just shoot them in the first place.
my fault for reading this far at all, this "guide" is useless.

While well intentioned, this guide was a real turd of a read. It doesn't accomplish anything it says it aims to.
Why not explain "host advantage" and why this game's multiplayer is different than others, like Call of Duty's (server based). Why not explain tactics/teamwork to help raise a players chances of success... like how two teammates can use different weapons, at different distances, in tandem to annihilate opponents.
This kid, and his stupid little guide, are a really bad joke.

Who gives a shit about rankings and leader boards these days?!?!? Those are for people that like to expoit flaws in the game, cheat, or spend 12 hours a day playing. You'd be better off trying to win the lottery then be in a league of the top players in the world.
I play to have fun and hopefully unlock some of the achievements. I have run into some of these douche bag pieces of shit that host and have the most arrogant and unsportsman like attitudes that make playing a pain in the ass.
I always congratulate everyone for effort, even being on the losing team or scoring the most points on the winning team. If you're going to play like an asshole like this guide suggests, then you're going to get a shit review as I leave with anyone who is an asshole. Pretty soon you can look forward to games played by yourself. For fuck sake, be a good loser as well as a good winner and know that if you play long enough, you're going to get better. Forget this shit guide.

I stopped reading after "If you can't get on the Host's team, quit and find a new game"
So, if people follow his guide, that's the end of Gears of War multiplayer. Not metaphorically, but completely.
This guy's an asshat, you shouldn't promote this kind of stuff.

Yes. The individual, who wrote this guide, has severe issues. He'll probably end up being a 3rd grade soccer coach who spikes the koolade of the opposing team's children in or to stack the odds of winning in his favor.
Yet, more unsettling than that would be that we followed a link to his guide from THIS website.
