Xbox Live needs your input

Ozymandias, the man in charge of the future Xbox, is asking for your input on the future of Live. He points out that Live will soon extend beyond the Xbox platform, making its way to PCs and mobile platforms as well. As such, he is posting an open forum for users to share their ideas about the future of Live, asking them what they would like to see added to the service. He adds that these are ideas that should be implemented over the next five years or so, and that they need to have an overall strategy for execution. Ozymandias cautions, however, that these ideas obviously won't all make it into a future build of Live, and that you shouldn't share ideas you might do something with yourself some day.

While we have no way of knowing what will make the cut and what won't, it's refreshing to see MS publicly soliciting ideas from its user base. If you have an idea, head over to Ozymandias' blog and share it. While you're at it, why not share it here as well. What would you like to see added to Live? Keep in mind, these things don't necessarily have to apply to the Xbox or even the PC.

2. 1 thing i would like to see if that xbox live gets split into regions or something along those lines.... me as an australian trying to play with americans is like me being a fish in a barrel.... i got no chance.... im a siting duck becuase of lag

3. >>He adds that these are ideas that should be >>implemented over the next five years or so
Too long for our virtual society. After 5 years there will be prettier online services. I don't think Xbox Live will be real competitor for Steam on PC

4. Default online status plz.

5. strider...completley agree with you on the amount of games per week. Ive had this console since launch (well over a year) and there are only like 50 arcade titles...they should be cranking them out at a rediculous rate (specially the old shitty retros)

on another note.. things are way overpriced

the fact that games like roboblitz and lumines live cost 15 bucks in outrageous.

if any1 else out there has a wii they know that u can buy Mario64 for only 10 bucks.. perhaps one of the greatest games of all time.. enough price gouging microsoft we already pay 50 a year for the service.

(here comes every1 to gang up correcting me that we pay 50 to play others online)

6. All I want to see is a way to delete my XBLA demos (and even some of my rented games) from my achievements list. How's that work?

Posted at 7:16PM on Jan 16th 2007 by Mike Schramm

7. I'd like it if when I got my console back from a warranty exchange, that all my XBLA games would freaking work on the replacement console! It's not acceptable that non-primary profiles can no longer access the full games, or that the primary account MUST be connected to Live to play.

I called 1-800-4MYXBOX. Their answer? If I can connect to Live, they don't do anything. If I can't, they would normally provide enough points to repurchase the games - but they're out of points now and can't do that? OUT OF POINTS? WTF!?

8. Hell yea Viridium...............
They did that shit to me By this point other hot games came out and i never got some of the other ones ive had........AND WHY THE FUCK IS IT SOOOOO HARD TO INVITE SOMEONE TO A GAME!!!!!!!! This used to be sooo simple on the old XBOX....They didnt even have to be playing the same game.....But now when im in the lobby of most games the invite button is greyed out and inaccesible.

9. Have you guys seen that Michael Mann movie, "Heat"? There's a part when the character played by Tone Loc goes, "before we even get into all of that..."

That's the first thing that came to mind here. The 360 Live service is great, but I still don't see any knock-out titles for the XBLA platform. I thought this was a gaming machine first, and a media hub second.

I'd like to see fresh and / or classic content on XBLA. The current line up is such an eye sore. Small Ams, Ms. Pac-Man, etc. Come on, now.

Also, the "New Releases" section under Game demos has about 4 titles, several of which are already out!! I find that quite scary. Where are the demos for Forza 2?? Blue Dragon?? Winning Eleven?? etc.

I think MS should beef up their current Live channels first. Add more content, strengthen their base, and then expand.

As for the expansion itself, I think they need a bigger hard drive. I'm not ready to start a movie collection on just several gigs for free space.

Other stuff I'd like to see:

- more than one XBLA game released per week!!
- a game lobby on the dashboard itself!! this way players can meet up, chat with their friends, coordinate, and then go off to jump into an actual game. i have over 20 Gears-head friends, and the single chat channel is not working for game planning.
- stop charging for small stuff: gamer pics, themes, etc.

10. I would like to see mini games inside the Guide dash that I can play while I wait for the room to fill up and the host to launch. Sometimes it takes ages to find a game, but with mini games you can jump into an empty room and have something to do while you wait.

11. I started writing something,b ut I realized that I don't have any really good ideas. I mean, xbl is awesome and everything, but it's secondary to the games.

plus every single concept piece I hear ABOUT XBL sounds dumb beyond belief. Turning on my console with a cell phone? Knowing what my friends are doing at any given time? Playing XBLA games from various devices?

LAME!

Don't get me wrong, I love the friends list, I love the achievement boards, and I love the content.

Everything else is inconsequential.

12. - Play Divx and Xvid files.

- Store videos on the hard drive from PC or burned data disc.

- Play data disc video files (not VCDs,I want to burn an .avi file to a cd and play it in the 360)

- 4 way group chat.

- 4 way video chat.

13. I dont understand when i have a good connection of 2 megs cable connection thst my xbox live lags when i try to play smackdown vs raw 2007 and when i play madden 07 when im the colts my connection is always lost after the kickoff u have to pay for this xbox service and if i play these types of game on my ps2 they never lag and its free. I tried to fix this problem i opened my router becarse when i check it on my xbox 360 it says open wish i could figure out why it is lagging and booting me off madden when i use certain teams

14. OTAM: porn is for your computer...not your 360.
You can love your 360, but you really shouldn't luuuuuuuuve your 360

15. Ability to queue up marketplace downloads via xbox.com. So that when you boot up 360 later on the downloads can start without having to navigate the console marketplace.

16. It would be really cool if you could tag your friends and then it would tell you when ever they got online.

Posted at 2:28AM on Jan 17th 2007 by Phil

17. @JCarp

You beat me to it. Totally agree with your point and right with you on that one.

Although I would like MS to go one better and allow me to start the downloads remotely, be it via xbox.com or my mobile device, so that while I'm stuck at work reading forums with people playing cool new demos and XBLA games, I can set it off downloading and then when I arrive home, the game/demo is ready for me to play. Rather than having to wait another 2 or so hours for content to download.

That would be nice :)

18. It would be awesome if we could rent full video games or maybe even buy them over our xbox. it would be so much easier than gamefly or any rental place and plus, we wouldn't have to risk our games to disc scratches or anything else. but, if we do have a malfunction, then we could give a code that we would recieve with every video game that we bought so that we could have shipped to us, a disc. or even better, if xbox opened an online store on the 360 that allows us to buy games directly from microsoft and get them shipped to us

19. I have posted 2 items on the blog that this story mentions and have tried to post another 3 different times without it posting. There is a delay but the others went through rather quickly and the third has taken over 2 hours with nothing 3 separate times. Maybe it's moderated and the mod has a list of things to not post as they may be in the works already. Who knows but here it goes again...

Gifting-

I select Purchase "Name of Content" as a Gift.
Then select a name from my friends list.
My friend receives the message "AngriBuddhist has sent you Geometry Wars. Do you Accept?".
If yes, then the content downloads to their 360 and my account gets billed. If no, then there is no download and no billing. Simple. Easy. It could be ready by the Spring Update. Hmmm.

Posted at 6:47AM on Jan 17th 2007 by AngriBuddhist

20. As people have said let us start downloads remotely
also people said group chat

I personally would like to be able to play an arcade game with a game lobby in the background (DIDN'T microsoft say we could do this in the beginning)

Support for more types of movie files and rippin them to the HDD

External memory support for downloads

Have chat rooms and the option to host them(with multiple people and support for text and voice)

If our cellphone can get xbox live every game specific to the cellphone should be significantly cheaper as they are cell phone games

Offer subscriptions to xbox live arcade maybe like $8 a month to play every game for free
and like $12 to play every game and allow gamer points

Add Chat to a blade when connected to xbox live

Make downloadable mode- turn off disc drives and stuff but allow downloads
