Halo 3 tested in Iraq by our soldiers [update 1]

Over at the Gamespot's forums pictures and a brief video have surfaced of the Halo 3 beta being played by soliders in Iraq. There are a few offscreen pictures posted and a short video showing what looks to be either the Halo 3 loading screen or the title screen. Bungie and Microsoft set up a huge gaming station to showcase Halo 3 multiplayer for the soldiers ... how friggin' cool is that? If any soldier living overseas is reading this, please send us a tip if you know about this sneak peak at Halo 3 and/or your reactions if you got some hands on time. More pictures and video after the break ... salute!

Update 1: Another video was found, updated video links after the break.

[Thanks, to everyone who sent this in]

MS really is brilliant when it comes to PR. They are the masters at this. Special thanks out to those serving in Iraq, its not easy when you know someone who serving overseas. My 2 friends are former marines. Awesome pictures though.

Umm, the last time I checked there isn't a draft going on. These people enlisted and knew the risk that they might be called into combat and heaven forbid DO THE JOB THEY ARE PAID FOR. Too many people join the military thinking they will be stationed somewhere stateside or in a non-combat zone where they can soak up the pay, the tuition and insurance benefits. Well, sorry you have to actually do your job. I appreciate what our soldiers do and I have much respect for them. But don't make it sound like this is something outside of the scoop of being in a military unit training to be a soldier for combat.
MS is great at the PR thing, what better way to gain some press for themselves then by using soldiers as their marketing tools. I'm sure this is less of "hey our soldiers deserve a treat" and more of "hey we can use the iraq war to push Halo into the news more". Bungie are some of the most arrogant, full of themselves devs/publishers out there and I could see them all laughing about this over a pint.

Either they removed a grenade entirely, or they just took it out of the beta, because they aren't ready to reveal it quite yet.

First of all, Razer your comments are completely unnecessary, rude, and out of line. It makes me sick to think that you are sitting in the comfort of your house, playing games, eating pizza, and talking crap about our soldiers. Any person who stands up, and fights for our freedom is respected in my books.

Second of all, I think that Bungie is very cool to let them try out the game first, since it seems that everyone wants to see what the game is shaping up to be. This is not a marketing gimmick, it is just a good gesture on behalf of Microsoft and Bungie.

@6.

Hey, no one is expecting them to have their asses kissed all the time and most of the time soldiers (myself included), get sick of it. However, let's say you had a tough job that had you in a foreign country, say building an oil pipeline while a civil war rages around you, but that's what you get paid to do. Wouldn't you like some creature comforts in a while from someone? Sure you would...

On another note, what better way to get input on combat techniques for AI and weapons than from a bunch of seasoned war veterans in a war zone. No my friends, this is much more than a pat on the back for these guys in Iraq. Bungie is tweaking the combat systems, AI and weapons I bet.

Wow...are you a solider? You have a very poor way to look at. I'm a solider and I think it's great that they got to play the beta. Have you even been to Iraq? I have and let me tell you it's no cup of tea. And yes we did sign up and yes everyone knows the risk of being in the military, do you seriously think that people sign up not thinking that there going to ever not go to war? Man your a moron if you don't think that. Anyway besides the point Halo 3 is going to be sweet adn I'm glad that there getting to test it.

WOW! It almost wants you to sign up for the military so you can get shot at for real. Good for them though they deserve it whether they signed up to be in Iraq or just hoped to be stationed in some remote island sipping margaritas as razer said. Of course to his defense if anyone watched the news shortly after the Iraq war broke out a couple of “soldiers” tried to sue the army because they didn’t sign up for war but instead the free education they were promised and wanted out.

I don't comment much but I really needed to say razer, you really are a jerk. There would be a draft if nobody volunteered, and last I checked, the armed forces are still meeting their recruitment goals even though the war is now more than three years old. It's a pity that with our volunteer army, it's the stand-up, high quality dudes that end up getting wasted and all we're left with are the good-for-nothing whiners like you who stay safe and warm with momma while others do the dirty work.

Oh, and thanks for the cheap shot against Bungie too. I'll bet you won't crow when you come up with your own mega-hit game.
