Is it me, or is the shoot button a little slow to respond?...you can't really get a good stream of missles going.

I agree Holzmiento, the firing seems a little slower... but then again it has been 18yrs since I have played it last.

lots of people like to bitch and moan about how much these old games cost.
think of it this way...$5 is 20 quarters. chump change for a really classic game. i passed on Frogger and Clyde, but i'll be a XBLA-whore the next 3 weeks with Galaga, SF, and Pac-Man. time to buy some more MS points.

Too bad it sucks. I hate how they just tsake the same old game and run it emulated with a new background.
Fuck that.

Oh you young'ns don't respect the predecessors of the great games you play today. Of course, the world revolves around YOU, right?
And for those that are having a problem with the missile flow, it's been like that since the original. Only when you shoot accurately you get a steady firing rate.
I believe this game is actually Galaga '88, not the original Galaga.

I love seeing these old games dusted off for the new platform, even though I've bought them in Namco Museum a few times already. Five bucks for not having to change the disc, global leaderboards, and a few more gamerpoints on my tally is a good deal for me. Call me a sucker, call me lazy, but I am XBLA's target demographic. I don't mind paying for oldies, I don't mind simplicity, bring us some more. And Ninjabee -- give us Void War soon, OK?

One thing I absolutely hate about people (and especially reviewers) is when there's a classic game re-release (or game compilation), they instantly bash it (and reviewers give it a low rating) because its not like a totally redone version or something. Some developers believe in not tampering with classic games, and I believe Namco believes in this policy.
It's a old classic game, its not expected to be totally new with totally new graphics or anything. It can't be compared to a modern game, so why to people still do it?
Play it and respect it for what it is, a CLASSIC GAME, one that vast majority of people more than likely know and remember.

@#1,2: The firing seems the same to me... You can only have 2 shots on the screen at the same time.
My only complaint is that you can continue from the last level you died at, making the wave 20 and 30 achievements not as difficult as they might appear.

I bought this at 5:20 AM this morning. Galaga is one of the best of the old-school shooters. Space Invaders gets all the nostalgia and love, but Galaga was clearly the better game.
$5.00 for a classic like this is decent. I spent WAY more than that on this game back when decent arcades were around.
Now, how about some VANGUARD to go with it? And I'm probably the only one, but I'd love some Taito Champion Wrestler, too.
Actually, why limit to arcade classics? I think XBLA would be a great place for EA to put old titles like Archon I & II, or Epyx's Impossible Mission (I think it was Epyx), or RAID ON BUNGLING BAY. I'd pay for Jumpman or Jumpman Jr. (screw Load Runner. Jumpman was way more fun).
There's potential in XBLA if companies get off their butts and use it.

The fire rate is fine. the achievements are weak, could've had something harder for the hardcore/old school crowd like a certain high score mark or certain fire percentage rate. Its too easy to unlock all the achievements because the game has unlimted continues and a level/ stage select option. One nice little extra is the screen adjust option and the fact that there is a high score leaderboard. If I remember correcly the arcade version had 2 player option, but not co-op, it was play until you die then player 2 turn, and back. this version doesn't have that but not really a big deal. Overall, if you played and liked the arcade version then its well worth the 400 points in my opinion. And hey, you do get to try a free demo!

I'm a veteran of Galaga from way back when, but I was never into it. I'd give it a play in the arcades, but it never enamoured me. I'm waiting for Time Pilot. I'd also like to see Zaxxon. I'd like a good sidescroller like Metal Slug as well. While I'd like to buy Pac Man, I think I'll wait for Ms. Pacman which is a much better game for my tokens.
Pronto! Snap to it!

Devil May Cry 4 is coming to the Xbox 360 and NOT the Playstation 3!!!
In the May 18, 2006 issue of Famitsu magazine, the Devil May Cry producer Hiroshi Kobayashi revealed that plans had changed drastically for Devil May Cry 4! He said that Devil May Cry 4 will now be released for the Xbox 360 and the Wii, but NOT the Playstation 3!
Let's just get one thing straight to all of the people who search for Internet information: When you see an article that says, "Update: Kobayashi has confirmed that Devil May Cry 4 is being released exclusively for the Playstation 3," it was from January 20, 2006! It doesn't take a rocket scientist to realize that May 18th, 2006 is a later point in time! This means that as of right now we have received absolute confirmation that Devil May Cry 4 will be released for the Xbox 360 and the Wii, but not the PS3!
Devil May Cry 4 was nowhere to be seen for the Playstation 3 at the 2006 E3, and its lack of development is the reason why. Kobayashi has said that the Xbox 360 version of the game will be just as good if not better than the PS3 trailer shown at the 2005 E3. In the interview, Kobayashi explains that he is not sure about the power of the Playstation 3, but he makes it clear that Devil May Cry 4 on the Xbox 360 will fully maintain all of the expected quality for the game!
THIS IS AWESOME!!! And it needs to be covered publicly MORE, like the cancellation of WWE Smackdown vs Raw 2007 for the PS3!!!
Here are recent May 18, 2006 hyperlinks to prove this:

BEST GAME EVER
continues are wack. they shouldnt be in the game. i always hated when a galaga machine had continues. it makes the high score not as impressive. also hated ones with rapid fire.

...the continue at your last level is available right below the start game option after you die.
I am not really against it, the first 9 levels are pretty easy and you are just losing points if you skip them. As for the achievements tied into the higher levels... I can think of several full tier games that have easier achievement rewards.
I am happy Galaga is on my X360, well worth 400M$. Anyone else want some pinball?
