More Samurai Shodown on the way to XBLA

Interesting. Very interesting. When it was first revealed via the ESRB that XBLA would be seeing a version of Samurai Shodown II, it was absolutely good news. This time the ESRB revealed that the original, Samurai Shodown, will be coming to XBLA as well. Given that XBLA has seen original games and sequels released separately, this likely means that both Samurai Shodown games will get separate release, but we can certainly hope in vain for some sort of compilation and upgrade, can't we?

Give Metal Slug 3 the blood it deserves

Fans of the Metal Slug series may have been disappointed to learn that Metal Slug 3 was stripped of its lifeblood for the Xbox Live Arcade release. The be more precise, the game was stripped of the fountains of blood created when characters get shot, stabbed, eviscerated, or otherwise dispatched. The blood was sneakily replaced with sweat for the North American release, as if the crafty people at SNK Playmore thought we wouldn't notice. Thankfully, there is a fix, and it's not even difficult to do. So, how does one turn on the red stuff? Is it ABACABB? No, much simpler actually. All you have to do is switch your console's language settings to Japanese. See, easy, right? The only hard part now is making sure you can find your way back to the language settings again. Good luck with that.

Metal Slug 3 side-scrolls its way to the XBLA

SNK's Metal Slug 3 just landed on the Xbox Live Arcade this morning and these Slugs are ready to blow stuff up. For 800 Microsoft points Metal Slug 3 will come packed with hours of side scrolling action, two player local co-op, (sorry, no Xbox Live functionality) Xbox Live co-op and updated HD graphics. It's time to stop General Morden once and for all fanboys. Your purchase will prevent the New World Order from forming and anarchy from infecting all of society ... go get 'em Slug.

Metal Slug 3 kicks off Live Arcade's 2008

If good omens really exist, then Metal Slug 3 being the first game for Xbox Live Arcade in 2008 is surely one of them. Microsoft has informed us that the game will be arriving on XBLA next week, starting off 2008 with a digital bang (followed by many, many more bangs, dead soldiers, and giant boss creatures). Part of one of the most popular action series of all time, the game will feature Live (and presumably local) co-op and updated graphics. Metal Slug 3 will be available next Wednesday for 800 MS Points. Our only worry is that so much on-screen action might make Live co-op a little sketchy. Let's hope not. Check out a new gallery of Metal Slug 3 screenshots below.

Cyberball, Fatal Fury hit XBLA next week, special price drops too

Wow, the Xbox Live Arcade press release came early this week and it is loaded with goodies. First and foremost, let's discuss next week's games. There are two games arriving next Wednesday, Fatal Fury Special and Cyberball 2072. If you're a longtime gamer, both titles are likely to bring back heady arcade memories. We're talking about real arcades of course. Fatal Fury Special is old school 2D fighting at its finest, whereas Cyberball 2072 brings us robotic football with a ball that explodes if you don't make those touchdowns quickly. It is, put simply, football for nerds, and it always managed to draw in the same two guys at the arcade. You know, the guys who put their drinks on the machine and played nothing else for five hours. Good times. Both Fatal Fury and Cyberball will be available for 400 points.

In other Arcade news, a select group of XBLA games will be available for half price this weekend in celebration of Labor Day. The four titles are Zuma, Small Arms, Dig Dug, and Gauntlet. Zuma and Small Arms will be available for 400 points, while Dig Dug and Gauntlet will be a mere 200 points each. The Labor Day special runs from 5:00PM PT September 1st though 4:59PM PT September 3rd. Hachi machi, it's so much Arcade goodness we can barely stand it.

Metal Slug 3 offically rolling onto XBLA

Well, it only took SNK nearly a year to announce it, but we finally know which Metal Slug will be hitting Xbox Live Arcade. Having already read the headline, you may have guessed that it's Metal Slug 3. If so, then you are correct. Go get yourself a cookie. According to a (translated) press release from SNK Playmore, the game will be part of the company's lineup at the Tokyo Game Show next month. In the same press release, it is also revealed that SNK Playmore will be showing off Fatal Fury Special (known as Wolf Legend Special in Japan).

There you have it then. Now that the veil of secrecy has been lifted, are you happy with SNK's Metal Slug choice, or would you have preferred a different entry in the series?

Metal Slug blasts its way onto XBLA

1UP is reporting that Metal Slug is heading to Xbox Live Arcade. In an interesting twist, there were no big announcements on the subject. 1UP simply noticed a blurb about the game in a pamphlet they received at TGS. Supposedly, the game to be released will be the original Metal Slug and not one of its many sequels. No release date has been given, but 2007 seems to be a fair guess at this point. We have two words for you SNK: online co-op. Make it happen.
