With Microsoft's official confirmation of the Xbox 360 price cuts that puts Arcades at $199, 60GB Pros at $299 and 120GB Elites at $399, it looks like retailers are moving quickly to get the old Xbox 360 20GB models off their shelves by resorting to some old fashioned clearance pricing.The recently discounted to $299 20GB Xbox 360 models are now showing up at retailers across North America at even lower price points due to the fact that the 60GB model also dropped its price to $299. Essentially making the 20GB a bad deal. As a result, Best Buy and Amazon.com are currently selling the 20GB 360 model for $259 while Futureshop in Canada has discounted the 20GB model to $199 and is bundling it with Gears of War and DOA: Xtreme 2. $99.00 is going to be the price. If you check Amazon and Gamestop the price of the 120GB drive went down to $150.00.
SO.... Arcade plus $99.00 60 GB drive equals pro price but Arcade plus 150 equals $350.
So I guess black plastic, HDMI cable, and headset costs $50.

I saw a standalone 20GB drive at Target for $70. If it hits $50, it might be a better bargain to get a Core plus the reduced price HD. I might do that for my bedroom 360.

Went out earlier to see what was open in the area now that the post hurricane stuff has cooled off a bit. Wouldn't you know it though many of the retail stores are clearing out the 20gb models and have them priced at $199, the same price as the arcade. Seems a bit moronic but hell I'd take advantage of it if I didn't already own two 360s.

Ha, Doug, you're bringing up an issue that is different than what tatsukishi was suggesting. Yeah, the standalone drives are way overpriced for the sizes they use, I'm not arguing that. There's no way they should cost more than $100 for the largest drive.
But there's no way any company is going to sell a product and then give away a future upgraded product for free to all the people who bought the previous gen product. That would be impossible.
If you want the new tech, buy it. If you don't want to or cannot afford to pay for it, don't buy it. You don't have to like it, but sorry, that's reality. You can go on living in a fantasy land where you get unlimited future upgrades for free if you want to. I'm sure there are plenty of other whiners out there who will join you (and these are the same whiners who moan every time any new generation of a product comes out right after they bought the previous generation...nothing makes them happy except feeling like everyone owes them something for free).
Too harsh? Too bad.

I don't think the OP was seriously saying Microsoft should refund money. He was making a point that when these drive sizes are arbitrarily raised from 20 to 60 at the same price, it proves that the previous drive was way overpriced. (Something we've all said from day 1.)
I've been an early adopter many times, as I'm sure you have. I love the 360. But the crazy prices for HDD's, wireless networking, etc. It's hard to see gamers on here defending that.

I just thought i would add, it's amazing because i think xbox 360 is the last product to have a 20gb hard drive, i mean i don't believe they manufacture them anymore. In fact i don't think there was a consumer version of a laptop sata drive at 20gb.

i dont understand what all the excitement is about.. 20gb, 60gb, 120gb; if you're not buying tons of XBLA games and buying movies off XBLVM it doesnt matter.. ive had a 20gb for about 2 years now and i rarely fill the hdd if i keep it neat and tidy.. 15 XBLA games, 5gb of paid video and ive got room to keep superman returns, crackdown, force unleashed, vf5 and doa4 demos and still download a couple more before tonight is over..
the key is to get a system with a hdd from day one. any sized hdd will do the job and anything over 20gb is gravy.. if you're not buying video off XBLVM i dont know what youd need more than 20 or 60gb for anyway..
(on a sad note my 360 doesnt wanna read discs anymore so its off to m$ again this weekend for repairs.)
