I got the 20 GB model shortly after it went to $299 as well. There was already talk of the 60 GB model at that time, so I knew full well that there would likely be more changes shortly. The thing is, the only change is the size of the hard drive. That's easily augmented by adding your own storage space via USB, connecting your XBox to your PC, or buying a new hard drive later.

If I had missed out on a bunch of new features, I would have felt the sting. But hard drive space doesn't bother me that much, especially when I've been having so much fun playing games for the past few months. And I've still got a bunch of space left with several options to expand it should I need to.

As much as it sucks for consumers, it makes good business sense to sell through your existing stock rather than pull them and replace them with the new sku.

I purchased the 20gb the day after they lowered the price from target-- that came with a $25 gift card, so it lowered the price to $275 + tax. I don't see that as much of a loss as I have been gaming happily for the past two months. While it would be nice to have a 60GB HDD, i'm not entirely sure what I would do with the space. I have Netflix so I have no intention of using the video store and XBLA games are minuscule in size.

I bought a 20 GB 360 for $399 in March 2007 at ToysRUs, and got a bonus $50 gift card, which I immediately used to purchase God of War II. I Don't regret the purchase at that time at all, since I've spent many happy hours gaming on it.

Yes, it costs a little more to adopt technology early, but the reward is that you get to enjoy that technology for that much longer. I bought a 10 GB iPod for $399 in August 2002 and don't regret that either.

Apple didn't send me an 80 gig iPod & an apology letter to replace my 30 gig iPod.

The fact that M$ can offer a 60gb drive at three-times the size and the SAME price as a 20gb drive... with no new leap in technology, just a marketing change, is very frustrating.

Yeah, we bought the 20gb 360 because it's all there was. But we don't have to join your real world of sucking up to your gaming company.

Microsoft keeps showing it's a money-hungry beast, not the fan-friendly gaming company it pretends to be.

We all know the cost on the hdd is for the proprietary connectors not the size if hdd itself.

Bottom line is you want things early you pay the price for them, give it time and they well decrease and then you can say you got it at a good deal.

That 60gb HDD did not come as a result of innovation like the larger 80 and 160 iPod mini-drives, which have to be created in smaller form factors. And if so, why aren't stand-alone 20gb drives $39 now? It's pure gouging.

If Microsoft wants me to keep buying DLC and movies they better make it affordable to upgrade because my 20GB stuffed. And it better not cost $100 dollars like the old 20GB did. In what world is $5 a gig an acceptable price? Get it together Microsoft.

@ Odog4ever: I payed 5 bucks a gig for my 2 gig thumb drive is that a bad deal? or maybe you are just referring to people being able to get like 500 gig hdds for the computer at like 150 bucks.

But this is a hard disk drive, not solid state like a thumb drive. If it was a solid state drive, I could understand the high prices (Actually, it would need to be priced higher)

As a HDD, it should be much cheaper. 2.5" 120 GB HDDs can run as low as $60 after markup! $100 aditional markup, more than the product itself, is way too large for a hard drive. Microsoft would crumble into dust if they had competition, but since it is their own on proprietary HDD, it'll never dip below $150.
