First, let's clear something up: yes, that's a screenshot from Street Fighter IV. Yes, it is rendered in 3D. The game, however, will play out in 2D fashion just like the classics. There, with that out of the way, let's discuss Street Fighter IV. 1UP has the scoop, and what is known right now is that the game will feature new moves, new locations, and new gameplay features. Street Fighter IV retains the same six button configuration, so vets should feel right at home there. So far, the only characters revealed are the return of Ken, Ryu, Chun Li, and Dhalsim. Finally, no specific platforms have been announced for the game so far, but given the success Capcom has had with the 360 so far, it's probably a safe bet we'll see it on Microsoft's box. More details will be revealed in the January issue of EGM which should be hitting subscribers very soon. You can bet we'll give you the skinny when we find out more.

I doubt SSFIIHDR will find itself pointless. From my understanding, it will be the original SSF2 w/ improved graphics. However, I would not be surprised if SF4 implements 'easier' ways to pull of shoryukens and spinning pile drivers.

Looks really promising, I just hope they can nail the gameplay right. This is a big risk for capcom. Capcom owes almost all thier success to this series. Its what put them on the map and paved the way for big budgets for other projects.

I think Mega Man put them on the map before Street Fighter.

I must be the only person who doesn't like the art direction they appear to be taking - creating 3D versions of the old 2D sprites and backdrops.

Call me a purist but I don't like the idea of Street Fighter going 3D in any form, so I'm seriously dubious about IV now.
that screenshot LOOKS good but it might royally suck. I'd rather play SSFIIHDR. I hope Microsoft or a good third party make a GOOD fighter controller..

@7 Lots of games were out before sf.
But when sf hit, thats when capcom owned the gaming world and defined a new generation of gaming and gave a new meaning to compatition.
None of capcoms other titles before sf had this impact. In fact they were lucky if all their titles combined profits were even 5 percent of what SF gave them. Its the game that made capcom what they are today.
@10
I share your feelings on this matter however, I have faith in the fact that capcom must know what they are doing with this series and learned from thier mistakes with the SF ex series and countless other companies that have tried to go 3d from 2d. I don't think they would have gone this direction if they wern't sure it would be perfect and a step above SF3 3rd strike which I hold in the highest regards. But you never know, all we can do is wait to play it. If it works, every company on the block will be doing the same thing, snk first ofcoarse. Which is a good thing:)

i really like it. if i wanted to play old school SF i'd go to street fighter 3 for my ps2.
the effects they could add to this alone are good enough reason for a 3d makeover.
the EX games were a joke, but i've faith they know what they are doing.
i'd buy this for the ps3 tho. sorry. been playing with a d-pad ever since SNES and the 360 d-pad is CRAP.

I don't care about the look of the game. What drove me away from the Street Fighter series (including the Marvel series) were a few gameplay choices that sucked:
1. EVERYBODY seems to have a distance attack now, and they use them constantly. They should call it "Street Shooter" instead of "Street Fighter" considering all the fireballs and sonic booms flying around.
2. SUPER attacks royally blow. They're just a cheap way to win a match by memorizing some ultra-complex joystick/button combo. I hate them, and any old-school SFII player should.
3. Superhuman jumping has killed the game strategies. You know what I mean-- It used to be they could just barely jump over each other. Now they can jump about 75 feet into the air.
4. Punch? Kick? What's that? The game is all about doing joy/button combos to get off superhuman attacks and combos now.
5. Juggling. It used to be you could juggle a guy for a few punches or kicks, max. Now you can keep him in the air until he's dead if you time it right. Sucks.
When I first played the game in arcades, it was Street FIGHTER. It was all about strategy and well-timed kicks, punches, and a few random powers. Some time in the 1990s, Capcom decided to stop making a fighting game, and to start making a game where the whole point is to blast each other from opposite ends of the screen. They turned the Street Fighter characters into Marvel Superheroes or Darkstalkers. It Sucks.
I want the old gameplay back. No Supers. No crazy high jumps (except for Vega, of course), no rapid-fire distance attacks, and no damn 300-hit juggling combos.
Punch. Kick. Duck. Jump. Guard.
Seriously, they should make a Street Fighter game where all the characters are stripped of their distance attacks and super powers.

ever heard of Street Fighter 3?
yeah, that's the most balanced Street Fighter out there.
it completely solves any of these issues.
