Video: How Mass Effect does space combat
There's a new Mass Effect combat video making the internet rounds lately, showing off how Mass Effect does alien killing. In the soldier class video (that we've embedded above) you'll get a taste of the game's targeting system, weapon switching, target painting, aiming and basic cover. You'll also once again see that the game is stunningly beautiful, the combat looks solid and man do we hope that the music isn't reserved just for the video. Their music selection actually makes the combat scenario feel intense and ... well, epic. Oh joy! Give it a watch and put your finely tuned fanboy analysis skills to work.

You didn't even get the fucking point I was making, is that you can think to what weapon your gonna switch to faster than you can navigate the menu.
How realistic is it to stand their getting shot at whilst taking time to select a weapon/power just because the menus restrict your speed? Just using 'real-life' as a comparison to a game that uses a levelling system that determines your health points and where headshots aren't effective is stupid.

I'm glad to see smooth combat. I was worried this would end up like metal gear 4 where your in the pause menu longer then you're in combat.

Is it just me or does Mass Effect look exactly like GRAW2 but with different settings, guns, etc.

@16 - Wow, just wow. I don't even not where to start.
Realism: Space travel, futuristic weapons, and aliens/monsters aren't realistic. That would include halo and gears.
Menu system: Go watch the video again. It's ok I'll wait. Notice how you can change your weapons AND YOUR SQUAD MATES weapons! How would you propose this mechanic be accomplished in real time while you're being shot at?
Other games: I'm sure Bioware is flattered that you mentioned them in the same breath as gears and especially halo but don't forget that Mass Effect is a fucking RPG. Not a shooter. Even if it does have shooter elements.
Final thoughts: If think your getting a tactical squad based shooter I'll warn you now, Don't buy this game. It has a lot more to offer than that.

@Mike-453:
i only brought up "real life" because you talked about a tactical edge gained from pausing the game, time you can use to think about what you're going to do. there was no animosity in my statement at all, and i stand by it. i don't want to play a game that i don't get the sense is plausible, even slightly. and i said i'm not sure i like that feature, not that it was "fucking" terrible or a "fucking" huge issue. relax. and look back at what you said: "you can think to what weapon your gonna switch to faster than you can navigate the menu," which seems to me to say that a menu gets in the way of changing weapons. why not just press the d-pad or Y button and voila it switches weapons. agreed?
@Odog4ever:
I didn't realize space travel and futuristic weapons -or weapons made...in the future - weren't real or possible. thanks for pointing that out to me. as for your proposal, why not press the left button in combination with a direction on the d-pad which has a weapon assigned to it. so: d-pad only is YOUR weapon, and left button and d-pad together are your SQUADMATES weapons. so go look in the mirror at how small your dick is, yes, it REALLY is that small, and come back when you've gotten yourself an edumacation, hyuk!
