Missile Command arrives this week on XBLA

Well kids, we knew it was coming. Yes, it was prophesied long ago that Atari's Missile Command would hit Xbox Live Arcade some day. That day is this Wednesday. This ain't your grandpa's Missile Command either. Nope, this Missile Command comes with fancy new 3D graphics and updated music. Sure, the primary goal is still to destroy incoming missiles, but now it's in kuh-razy 3D and it has achievements! The press release informs us that you destroy said missiles in order to defend planet Zardon (not to be confused with Zordon). The game features 2 person multiplayer locally or over Xbox Live and ... um ... well, that's about it. It's Missile Command. Take it or leave it (for 400 points).

Man,
WTF, Where the hell is the sonic games?
Streets of rage 2? Tron? Tempest? Fatal Fury Special? Puzzle Quest? I thought at least 4 sure this week we would get super puzzle fighter 2 turbo. This is like the 3rd or 4th week we have gotten only 1 new game in the Arcade while the damn wii continues to get like 5 new and bad ass titles everyweek.

I'll check this game out but man, where the hell is the really good stuff?

That's the best looking Missile Command I've ever seen.

Seeing as MC is one of my favorite old school pick-up and play arcade games, this development excites me sexually. But I feel like I just started Carcassonne last Wednesday... oh wait, I did.

@ccc,

You're a bit confused. The Wii doesn't get 5 new titles each week (they may be bad ass, personally I don't agree with that assessment by and large) they get 5 over-priced direct ports with no improvements or new features whatsoever. 360 may not get as many titles, but at least when they re-hash old games they take the time to improve them/add features, etc.

I know the Wii games are mostly direct ports and lacking any online play to them whatso ever but my point is,
They already got Sonic, Streets Of Rage 2, ninja Gaiden and a slew of Classic Neo Geo Games along with some turbo graffix 16 titles like Blazing Lasers or Bonk, those are really really sweet games. And we get Missle command? The live arcade is supposed to be getting all these nice games and every week I wait and wait and get nothing. While the hits just continue to poor out for the Wii left and right. I am starting to get tired of backing up the Live Arcade when it continuesly fails to release anything I am interested in. I'm not loosing faith just yet but, well we just need to start seeing more quality games on the level with games like Castlevania SOTN or Ultimate MK3. Games that at 1 point in times fairly not too long ago were rated 8s or higher and were worth 50 bucks in thier time. Those are the games I wanna C in the Arcade. Not games that R made for the Arcade that have the budget and production value of of 10 dollars.

Just out of interest, ccc, have you ever played the original Missle Command?

It's a classic, a masterpeice in it's time. When Sonic and Mario were fresh and new, Missle Command was a classic then. This is essentially a HD-ified version of the original. Totally worth the 400 points.

Yes I played the original game, I was a gamer well before this game ever came out. Like I said I will check this remake out. Most likley it is worth 400 and I'll get it. Still upset with the release this week in the Arcade though.

I can definately see were your coming from, Puzzle Fighter, Bomberman, Fatul Fury, SoRII, were the fook are they ? ? ?

I thought the idea of XNA was to make programming easier ?

Yet the Wii continues to emulate them week after week!

I will defo be getting Missile Command this takes me way way way way way back lol And I cant wait, and at 400 points! What a steal!!

This is how I used to role before I got my Master System
