This Week in HD DVD: we're rotting edition

Posted Jun 18th 2007 11:30AM by Dustin Burg
Filed under: News, HD-DVD Releases

We warned you last week that June 19th wouldn't bring any happiness and it looks like we were spot on. There are no HD DVDs coming out this week, because movie studios have a thing for clustering their releases on the same day. Oh well, next week we promise there will be new HD DVD material, so that's always good. And you could always be thankful that your HD format of choice isn't rotting away. See, you have to be positive, even if it is at the expense of other's HD format.

HD DVD Movie Releases: June 19th
No HD DVD releases this week.

[Thanks, Tarl]

1. Blockbuster announced their decision to go with Blu-Ray. I hope this isn't the beginning of "Beta" for our beloved HD-DVD Players.

2. If it makes you feel any better, there was only 1 Blu-Ray release this week.

I think Blockbuster will reconsider once Toshiba greases the right palms.

3. "Blockbuster announced their decision to go with Blu-Ray."

Well, with their business going down in flames, I don't know if they should be taking sides in the war. Or even adding either HD format that will mostly be unprofitable for their stores.

4. I would be more worried if Walmart stops carry it or if Netflix/Blockbuster Online stopped carrying it. The format that gets the cheaper player into Walmart this Xmas along with enough compelling movies will win.

5. If people still wonder why HDdvd is not selling as much this is why...

7. (sigh) I thought you guys were better than spreading this overblown FUD. This "rotting" problem is just a manufacturing defect in the production of some batches of Blu-Ray discs, which appears to be mostly affecting some copies of "The Prestige". This problem isn't new to Blu-Ray, as it has affected some early batches of defected CDs and DVDs too. This isn't a widespread problem. I'm not bashing HD DVD, I'm just saying the truth.

8. But to see Rot after only a few months is very scary for the BD side. Not to bash BD I'm just saying the truth. Damn professional floggers.

9. Well i dont see the point in haveing two seperate formats for movies, sure HD-DVD has potential, but hay Blu-ray is just so much more, if you have faster read speeds more space to be creative, i say go for it.
Blu-ray ftw
