Pay to show your love for Heroes

Truly there is no better advertising than paying another company to advertise their products for them. It seems that Xbox Live Marketplace was designed for just such a thing, as numerous themes and picture packs have appeared, which do little else than tell other people how much you like a certain product (we bought a Halo theme, so we're not exactly innocent). Marketing genius. The latest in this line of fan-vertising is new Heroes content available on Xbox Live Marketplace. Specifically, there is a theme available for 150 points and a picture pack for 80 points. Strangely absent from the Marketplace: the actual Heroes television program.

With such a perfect digital delivery system, you'd think NBC would be offering Heroes on Video Marketplace already. Alas, for now your stuck with the digital equivalent of a T-shirt.

1. I'd rather have episodes of 24. :)

Oh..and Mystery Science Theater, too.

4. This is one of those things that makes it doubtful I'll ever purchase anything from the XBLM other than add-ons for games. Themes, picture packs but they don't even have the actual show on hand? I noticed it when they had the Battlestar Galactica theme, pics, and even the free special recap episode a while back, but never offered the show.

Microsoft: Either get with it, pull your head out of your ass and do it right. Or get rid of the program all together. For the time being I'll stick with the iTunes/Bit Torrent combo for TV.

5. When are they going to start using the Video Market Place like Itunes. All this Video content and you cant transfer it to a portable player...not even your own Zune, Microsoft? I'd so buy a Zune if I could download content to it from my 360.

6. It's funny there's Heroes content on Xbox Live Marketplace since that show has featured Micah playing PS3 games on two occasions including the yet to be released Heavenly Sword.

7. I don't buy this shit. But too bad for me little kids with no sense of money will blow their parent's money, further encouraging crap like this.

And don't give me that "don't buy it" argument. If nobody bought it, we'd get better stuff for less.

Posted at 7:03PM on May 21st 2007 by John

8. @7 "If nobody bought it, we'd get better stuff for less."

Clearly you need a good beginning economics class.

9. I don't understand some of these concepts of "why" people won't buy things lol. They offer a theme, but don't offer the show yet, so the whole entire program sucks? What?

MS can't just force companies to put shows on their service.

On top of that, if people do not buy things, you don't get more stuff for cheap. You get nothing new at all.

I'm getting kind of annoyed over this pay for TV show and movie themes thing though. For a long time they were free universally. Suddenly there's this wave of pay-for ones and I just can't bring myself to want to pay for this stuff.

10. @ Rubbinz

"Microsoft: Either get with it, pull your head out of your ass and do it right. Or get rid of the program all together. For the time being I'll stick with the iTunes/Bit Torrent combo for TV."

Please tell me you're just spouting off, because I find it difficult to believe anyone could be so ignorant. Do you honestly think MS can just put any ol content on video marketplace whenever the urge hits them?

There has to be negotiations, royalties settled, regional distribution agreements, etc. I am sure as these things work themselves out, we'll see much more content hit marketplace. Quite frankly, I am very satisfied how this service is quickly maturing and therefore support it monetarily.

11. Nothing lamer than having people pay for what is essentially advertising materials (gamerpics). Might as well have quarter slots requiring us to pay in order to run the commercial breaks and get back to the show.

12. "With such a perfect digital delivery system, you'd think NBC would be offering Heroes on Video Marketplace already."

I'd think so too. All they have is Studio 60 whatever but I have no idea why NBC doesn't put out some better shows like The Office, Scrubs, or even the To Catch A ____ series.

Posted at 9:03PM on May 21st 2007 by Retrofied

13. @ Knight

And you get paid how much to shill? ;-)

Look, it's stupid and poor business to offer gamer pics and dashboard themes of a TV show when you don't even offer the show. It's been what, a year since the Battlestar Galactica recap episode? And they follow it up with a theme yet still don't have the show. People don't walk up to a hotdog vendor on the street and buy lunch when all he has to offer is the bun and some mustard.

Posted at 9:46PM on May 21st 2007 by Rubbinz

14. You can get the episodes for free online at NBC.com

Posted at 9:58PM on May 21st 2007 by Paul Mendoza

15. @14: Yeah, you can get it from NBC.com, but its a low res version. NBC is basically scared. Heroes is an HD product and they're two scared of putting any higher res versions of it in the wild, which is stupid. I'd buy it if it was on the marketplace.

17. Like Knight said, I'm sure these things take time.. The video marketplace is still young, and it's pretty impressive to see all the stuff that you can get already.

18. hey i bought it!!!gamer michael!! I love heroes and the season finally was fucking amazing!!! and i know wtf is up with mikah and the ps3..i see it like every other episode and its noithing but heavenly sword.. i kinda want to be him...see how the game is.

19. Heroes is THE shit. I'd pay good money for an HD version of it in the UK.

You're right though, it doesn't make sense that they'd have all the 'extras' but no actual tv shows to download.

So how far along are you in the US? Season 1 has finished then, judging by the comment above about the Season Finale.

Anyone know if there's gonna be any more Heroes? (And no plot spoilers please - I'm enjoying it too much!)

@Knight Marquise & DeadlyPlasmaCell: Come to the UK and you will see how much of a joke the non-existent Video Marketplace is.

20. How is this ANY different than buying a shirt with a band on it you like? Hope you never bought a single sticker or button with the name of a show or game on it or you're a whore I guess. Calm down people, if you don't like it don't buy it. I like Heroes and Tim Sale so it was easy for me to part with $2.00. I just hope to see episodes up on Marketplace soon.
