If there's one complaint people have about the Halo 3 beta it would have to be that the graphics aren't what some had hoped to see. Nobody is saying that the graphics are horrible, people are just saying that they aren't Gears of War quality or a gigantic leap over what Halo 2 has to offer. But if you really think about it, how much have Halo 3's graphics improved over its older bro? Gamespot dusted off their copy of Halo 2 on a mission to find out. They took a few screenshots from both Halo 2 and the Halo 3 beta and showcased them in complete image rollover fun. And, from what we see, the differences are quite noticeable. The textures and reflective surfaces in Halo 3 are far superior to Halo 2, even the geometry is beefed up. But that's expected on a next gen game. It all comes down to what your expectations are and if you feel the visuals took a big enough leap. What do you think about the comparison?

Comparing GoW to just about all next gen games right is ridiculous. Gears is one of the best looking games of all time, I don't think anyone expected Halo to look anywhere as good as Gears.
I'm not defending halo, I'm just saying stop comparing it to Gears.
I'm not impressed and I was hyping this game. A lot of us are just disappointed.

I agree with #14. I've loved Halo1 and Halo2 but I think people have trouble drawing attention to the elephant in the room that the Halo3 shots shown to date make it far from the best looking game. It looks a lot like the Halo2 graphics with some polishing. Maybe the released version will change some things but I doubt it would change that much.
Anyway longevity of Halo has mostly been about the MP, solid AI, environment design, etc. It's a shame it doesn't look better though.

Its Halo. Don't fix what isn't broken. They added enough new items to add some stradegy to the gameplay. And give me Gameplay over graphics anyday.

I think the graphics will really stand out when we get to the Single Player Campaign. The multiplayer can't have too much in it so it can work properly, but the single player and "possibly" 4 player co-op will probably look a whole lot better.

Seriously, Halo is really the one "next-gen" game that isn't afraid to use color. Gears looks great but it's grayish brown and while it's incredibly detailed, the style makes me go "meh".
