Apple owners rejoice, because your Connect360 is back and better than ever. If you recall, when the new Spring dashboard update rolled out Connect360 users soon found that their software didn't want to play nice anymore. But the Nullriver programmers got to work and just released Connect360 version 3.0 which is fully compatible with the Spring update. Not only does the program work again, but they've added H.264 and MPEG4 video support as well as iTunes podcast streaming. So, download Connect360 and try out the new podcast streaming feature using everyone's favorite Fancast. What? Just some shameless self promotion ...[Via Arrogantics, Thanks zizzy]

Actually it doesn't quite work. Version 3.0 locks up your Xbox360 about two minutes into any video that you are watching. So let's hope they are getting that fixed here soon.

I haven't had any trouble watching videos with the update.
I watched a few videos last night, beginning to end.

i'm going to set this up over the weekend .. one Q though - do you access the (MPEG4) videos through your iTunes library or need some extra software (like Flip4Mac mentioned on the Connect360 site) ?
thanks :)

Oh, yeah, it's great -- unless you actually use iTunes to buy music. Apparently you're encouraged to pirate or buy elsewhere so your music is fully compatible. The Apple DRM isn't supported on 360.

Here's my problem.. I'm wondering if anyone knows what the problem may be:
When I convert .mov or .mpg files to .mp4, they play with no problems on the 360...
But if I convert an AVI file to .mp4 using VisualHub or iSquint, it says the format is not supported. (Regardless of if I used H.264 or not)
Anyone know what I'm doing wrong here? Thanks for your help!

George: The audio codec list supported by the 360 is limited. Perhaps your converter is leaving an incompatible format in your new file?...

This update makes life good again. I am using ffmpegX to re-encode my DivX files into h.264 .mp4 format. And then they stream perfectly over to my 360 using Connect360 from my movies folder. The best part is, the file size goes down during the conversion, with literally no loss in quality.

Good call, Michael, thanks for the heads up. I'll check it out.
I'll also try ffmpegx tonight thanks to harma41's recommendation.
Thank you!

So what's a good conversion tool (pref. open source) to get DivX to MPEG4? I really wanna try this.

I tried the trial version, and since my music is not all in the iTunes folder, it can't locate all the tracks.
But that's just me.

You can use a program called FFmpegX to convert your DivX/Xvid files to .mp4/h.264 files that can decode on the 360. You can find this at: http://homepage.mac.com/major4/

@11 : You can also stream internet radio from itunes and play through the xbox. Just add stations to a playlist- works super.

Installed v3.0 from previous... Xbox 360 attempts to play a video files and bounces back with an "unsupported format" error. The same MP4 (H.264) file plays fine from burned data DVD. Haven't tried rebooting everything to see if that kicks something into action.

I've had the lock-up two minutes in on an H.264 video, and the "you need to download an optional file" (or whatever) even though I've already got the optional media update.
So it's not quite fixed yet. However, these guys are good and they are quick with the updates. It will be working in no time.

Yup, the video freezes about 1 minute into playback. It does it with every single video. They all play fine if I run them from the portable hard drive.
Unsupported file error was fixed for me after I downloaded AAC plug in from the Xbox Live and overwrote the old one.
Hopefully it will be taken care of soon.
E.
