True Xbox fanboys have already played Halo 2 so much that the game disc has started to warp, but our PC friends are just getting a taste of what it has to offer with the release of Halo 2 on Windows Vista. And with a Vista release, Halo 2 received a graphical upgrade with crisper textures and sleeker models. Don't believe us? The Gamespot crew posted a graphical comparison of Halo 2, pitting the Xbox version against its newer Vista cousin. The screenshots make it more than obvious that there is a startling contrast between the muddy Xbox graphics and the higher res Vista screens. And why shouldn't the game look prettier on Vista? Though, you have to remember that this is a port, so the graphics weren't majorly reworked. They were just kicked up a notch or two. Anyone using Vista and thinking about getting Halo 2 or will you be holding out a few more months for some Halo 3?

not really, but halo 2 was an hd game on the xbox. So why not take a look at the game in 720p. It would still not look as good as vista, but it wouldn't look like blocky shit either.

It looks great upscaled to 1080i on the 360; much better than on the original Xbox.
As for Vista...I refuse to install it. I'd put it on my laptop, but it couldn't run Vista or Halo 2 anyway.
I just fear that a PC version of this game will ruin it. PC FPS games seem so uptight when playing them. Quickturn will take some of the challenge out of the game as well.
Bah, I'll try it anyway when I decide Vista is upgrade worthy.

The comparisons in the article are jokes. The xbox version of the picutres looks far worse than it really does in reality. My lcd at 1280x720 looks much nicer than the pics they used. Maybe they should up the rez on their tv from 640x480.
I'm not saying there's not a difference; there probably is. But that is just bad reporting.
Or maybe they're just MS shills...

Oh, and most hardcore PC gamers would have waited this long to play Halo2, hardcore PC FPS players don't play with gamepads EVER (it's like playing doom with keys).

Hmm... A lot of the "muddiness" is probably due to problems capturing the screenshots from the Xbox. I don't know if they used a capture card or what, but it definitely looks like Standard Definition to me.
The PC version is very crisp, though. I won't be playing it - I don't bother with PC games anymore and I certainly don't have Vista!

If vista wasn't a load of ish I would buy it. I am getting a new computer this weekend and had them load xp media center. No way is vista ready until at least mid 2008.

The 360 upscales them brilliantly, both Halo and Halo 2. Even their 360 comparison looks bad, their output is far to dark. I know the 360 outputs component darker than it should, but they had something seriously wrong with theirs.

I'll be getting it. I've never had an Xbox so this will be nice. And I prefer playing on PC anyway. Mouse and keyboard are much more accurate than using a game controller. I don't really like Vista all that much, but I've got it dual-booting with Windows XP so it's not a problem.
However, I do plan on getting an Xbox 360 sometime soon, there's way too many good games coming out this year not to.
