In a recent blog entry by Hired Gun, the MGS team responsible for bringing Halo 2 for Vista posted recently regarding the 41 Achievements the game will have. They cover the easy ones and the difficult ones the put in, from sticking your first enemy in multiplayer to killing someone who beat the game on Legendary to playing through the single player campaign without dying, although they didn't specify the difficulty required. Interestingly enough Silver members, while able to play multiplayer in Halo 2 Vista, they won't be able to unlock Achievements online or use the matchmaking, while Gold members get the full course. So, do you plan on taking your Xbox 360 account over to the land of mouse and keyboard to get Halo 2 Achievements?

ACHIEVEMENT UNLOCKED: Installed Vista in under two hours (50pts)
ACHIEVEMENT UNLOCKED: Install Vista without losing all your files (50pts)
I'll need to crack those ones first

So pardon my noobsauce, but windows live games with achievement points will add points to your existing gamertag gamerscore if you have a gold account?

I think it would be a great idea if Microsoft made it so Halo and Halo 2 could use Achievement points on the Xbox 360.

Live for Windows games will cost you nothing as a current Gold member. If you don’t have a Gold account then the price is the same for a subsciption as that on the 360.

Yes the achievements will be added to your existing gold account.
Because Live will no longer be an Xbox/Xbox360 service and will be expanded to all Microsoft platforms. You can get your gamerscore on the console, on windows, on live enabled cell phones and their arcade titles. And you will be able to buy Microsoft points and buy content, arcade titles, movies and audio files for your Zune for example. Hence the new name: Live Anyware

Yes, this means that your Achievements and Gamerscore are carried over, so any Vista games that feature Achievements will be added to your tag and again carried back onto the 360 when you need it.

3: Vista takes a lot less than an hour to install. Maybe 20 minutes tops.
And all you have to do is make sure your files are on a separate partition or drive. Windows upgrades should always be avoided if at all possible (which is always).
:D

hell if they price it cheap enough i'm sure a good sized amount of halo 2 players will buy it. 20-30 bux, I might even buy it.
As a caveat, wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy too many great games comin to the 3-6 this year, bioshock, guitar hero, mass effect, h3, gta 4, etc. etc. that I think it'll detract me from ever gettin it.

Aw man, Halo 2 ACHs would be great to get, since I've probably already earned most of them before. Unfortunately, wrecking my computer by installing Vista, isn't on my list of things to do any time soon...

I've been running Vista Home Premium since launch with zero problems and I upgraded from XP. Do your homework before upgrading and you should be in for a smooth ride that takes 20 minutes or less to complete. If you're running a Celeron processor with 128 MB of RAM and onboard video good luck.

My reason for avoiding Vista isn't performance, but price. I've never been much for shelling out 200 bucks for a piece of software. Luckily I'll be able to get it from my university for 15 bucks pretty soon.
Is there a silver version of live for windows so that you can get achievements but not play online?

MY school and all surrounding universites/colleges give out windows vista free. The only catch is that its business edition. Costs $170 to upgarde from business to ultimate and thats unacceptable. I also need ultimate because I need the media capabilites and remote destop and advanced networking.
I would only buy halo 2 for pc tho if its $19.99 or less. Seing as I own the xbox version, and the game is sold for like $7 most places today, I could not see spending a dime more then $20. Knowing MS tho they will release it at $39.99 a try to milk people.
The thing about pc games with achievments is they dont really mean anything because im sure they can all be hacked in seconds. You can allready use games saves and a device to hack 360 gamerscore, with the PC, it will probably 100 times more simple.

If a game is Live anywhere compatible where you can start a game say on your PC and pick up where you left off on your cell phone or whatever, does it make much since to have to buy a copy for each system you will play the game on? They should make it one price fits all. Hopefully they will do that but it doesnt look like that is what there going to do, anyone know?

I just added it up, and I am sure that I got atleast 510 of those points when I completed it on the Xbox. If only they had introduced achievements back then, or if they made them an update for Halo 2 backwards compatability I would play it through again, again.
Come on MS, how hard can it be to implement them as a 360 update now you have done the hard work adding them to Vista.

Actually on the Gadgetshow they installed Vista Home Premium, after updating any incompatible software, and it took 1hr20. To be fair once installed it worked perfectly, just slower than XP, and even hardware that wasn't supposed to work worked.
I would never upgrade though. My XP is screwed already, that would push it off the edge, but once Logitech get their act together with iTouch, I'll build a vista system.
