Well it's certainly not 'innovative', this sort of thing has been around since the original Xbox and GameCube.

However, there's certainly nothing wrong with this approach, it gives something to the loyal fans of the company.

My only hope is that developers limit it to simple visual things like skins, at least as long as the whole 'gamesave' trading is still around.

Things like this are trivial, of course (although how much would you like to wager that people will be swapping their R6:V and SC:DA gamesaves simply to get these skins?), but if you start giving actual rewards to people, you're going to end up with angry loyalists and purists.

ea did this with games in the nfs franchise. you'd start out your career with 10000 more credits if you had a gamesave of the previous version of nfs. thats why i started carbon with 40000 credits and not the usual 30000.

I think it's a nice way to reward people for playing their games :)

It's only headgear ... if it was guns that you couldn't otherwise get then I'd say it was a little unfair on people who haven't played the others.

also...to add...i wouldnt mind achievements for this sort of thing...altho most ppl would fully be against it.

if it was guns in multiplayer...they would be free and downloadable via xblm in accordance with the new rules. purely because the new rules state that the online experience must be equal for all. so it wouldnt be fair if someone had a stronger gun solely because they played the previous version of the game.

if it was guns in the single player...that would be completely alright. (and a nice reward for those that played these games previously.

If I'm throwing down $60+ for a retail game, I don't think it's unreasonable to expect that my purchase entitles me to 100% of that game.

And besides, I don't really want a game scanning my hard drive and modifying the game play based on what it finds. Ever.

I think it's Ubi playing to their base. I'm probably not alone in being the guy that buys pretty much all of Tom Clancy titles. They have a certain baseline of quality, and you get what you're expecting plus a bit when you buy one.

Done loads of times before, like in Burnout Revenge for the Xbox.

I'm getting GRAW 2. Gives me a reason to renew my Gold membership. I also play like zero games right now, so I need some fresh meat :)

@jon, it has nothing to do w/ privacy paranoia. i just dont think i should have to play a different game than anyone else based on what other games i've played.

regardless, tinfoil is pretty flattering to my figure.

At the end of the day, it's simply 4 headgears which make no difference to your gameplay, or your health/armour. It is a little unfair, yes, but it's not as if they're offering you an unfair advantage.

However, here in the UK, if we pre-order GRAW2 from the GAME website, we can get an exclusive weapon, the FAMAS. Although from the rules djdatz stated (#6), this gun should be available from the MArketplace at some point.

I do think it's a little unfair on people who don't really keep up-to-date with gaming news on websites such as this, and purchase the game full-price, only to find that you don't have a full-game yet, with guns and headgears locked.

This applies to saves for RSV and SC:DA but not to the original GRAW? That's a little strange don'tcha think?

I gamefly all my games so this really isn't a problem for me. If worse came to worse I could get the game for a day and send it back.

I think the FAMAS is just unlocked for single player, I'm pretty sure I read that somewhere.

I remember an example from around 1995 when Lobotomy Software did something similar - on the Saturn, if you had a save game from either Exhumed or Quake, Duke Nukem 3D would have an extra option allowing you to play the DeathTank mini-game.
