Here's a followup to the last post where we mulled over the various possibilities of the Xbox 360 camera. Kumar Banerjee of the Microsoft hardware team had some good information to share about the peripheral. For starters, the device will be able to bag input at about thirty frames per second. As the article suggests, many video games implement this framerate, which tells us that the quality will be at least comparable to most webcams. We already know video chat is in the cards, so what else can it do? According to Mr. Banerjee, the camera will have the capability to take stills (think leader boards and mugshots), perform in low light situations, and features the intriguing gesture-initiated gameplay. Not sure how Microsoft will handle the use of uploading pictures, for cost or otherwise, seeing as how this might give some people the chance to show us more than just their gleaming face.
So imagine being able to use your hands for something a little more innovative than swatting at blind spots in the air. The idea behind the gesture gameplay is something that will allow gamers to use motion to signal things like squadron commands (advance, pull back, etc.) without the use of voice directions. The possibilities here are virtually endless, so it's up to the developers to come up with creative applications for it.
[Thanks, Matt]

As #1 stated I have seen this information before also.
It also does not give any hints as to when we actually see the thing either.

All I know is, I can't wait to show my smarmy face to world when I pwn noobs at various games. Although, on a serious not, i really can't imagine how they are going to sensor the cameras as many people will try to use them for less than wholesome celebrations or tantrums.

I think the easiest way is to allow people to turn off/on the feature of the camera. And only a master account would be able to do it, that way younger kids wouldn't be able to turn the feature on, thus wouldn't receive dirty pictures. Everyone else will have to just take that risk...It sucks but it'd be the only way, aside from having actual people scan the pictures everyone uploads (time-consuming and expensive)

I don't think this is going to sell because the main stream gamer or the avarage gammer does not have an xbox 360 yet, only the hard core gammer (that waited 12-24 hours on line)has one and I don't see them using this device.

Is this the reason we Microsoft ain't allowing us to download our own avatars? I'd really like to pick something more Pie-like than a motorcycle helmet!
