Developer says Xbox 360 camera impresses

It's been a while since we last heard some solid information regarding the camera peripheral that was first revealed at the last E3. Of course, this isn't anything official, but it's officially interesting coming from a developer in the community who claims to have actually seen the camera.

According to the tip that CVG recieved, this developer alleges to have witnessed Microsoft use it to chat it up video-style. Such a highlight is pretty practical, but this device opens the door for a lot of potential uses besides just long distance heart-to-hearts. How about the ability to broadcast your smirking face over Xbox Live after stomping the competition in Perfect Dark Zero? This could also be used for something as simple as capturing your likeness on a GamerCard.

And naturally it's pretty hard to talk console cameras without considering the gameplay feasibility in there (think EyeToy). But what other uses could it have?

personally having a camera hooked up to my 360 doesn't interest me in the slightest....sure it might be interesting to see what other poeple look like, but part of the allure of playing games is the escape they offer from normal life. having to stress about all of xbox live looking at me while i play games doesnt sound like fun...how am i ever going to be able to pick my nose again ?!?!!?

What are the possibilities? I'll tell you.

It would be nice if you could plug in a composite cable and send a video feed of something besides just what comes in on the actual cam. Like a recording of a game you want to host for posterity.

But, how is the regulation going to work? I frankly wonder what the soccer moms of America are going to do when they see a 15 year old girl and their 13 year old son on video chat......you can fill out the rest.

I am sure it will be abused. Is microsft going to monitor the pictures users place on their profiles?
A lot of gamers are rude and annoying just talking on xbox live. Now they will have the ability to moon people or worse. LOL.

I read an article at some point that said you would be able to take a picture of yourself and model your in game character after yourself. I think it would be pretty B.A. to create my own Ghost Recon Soldier that looks like me. Or think about using this to create your own boxer in Fight Night. There is a lot of potential here.

I bet it'll cost some marketplace place points to have your picture 'checked' by some MS moderator for it to be allowed online and then put into games.

Would be a nice feature tho...

The best use I can think of for this is for the upcoming Live Arcade poker game. The one drawback to playing cards on the PC or console is you can't see your opponents faces...to see if they're bluffing, their reaction to drawn cards, etc. With the camera, it takes it to a whole new level...

If it gives me the ability to map my face onto an in-game character I am all for it.

If it is used simply to have video chat I don't think I would use it.

Personally I really like the idea of the web cam. MSN Messenger has had webcam support for years and I've yet to start receiving this video spam people are so concerned about. As long as I can choose who I recieve video from I really don't see this being an issue. Friends should be able to send me video, strangers shouldn't. If someone's sending me video I find offensive I can remove them as a friend or use the feedback system to report them. A lot of the concerns people have with the webcam come down to how developers choose to use it.

This is just my opinion, but I'd love to be able to use a webcam with the 360. It would be really cool if it worked with Windows Live Messenger so I could talk with my friends on the PC to. I wouldn't be surprised if this is one of the features their considering releasing.

how bout being able to map ur face on ur created player..like how THUG did, just eliminating the middle-man....and with the 360's power, we'd really be "in the game"

#13 thats exactly what i was thinking! nhl 2k had this feature as you scanned in and it really tried hard (but failed) to put your pic on a character. I think many other games did this too, but its not really anything i would bother with honestly.
