That poor kid. The father should be criminally charged in my opinion, parents get in trouble for a lot more minor things than that.

I feel bad for Microsoft, because now they are losing 50 dollars a year from one less customer.

But in all seriousness, when he helped pack his bags, the dad was just trying to show the kid that he can go ahead and leave. Most of the times that kids threaten to leave, they are just bluffing and try to get the parents to beg them to stay, So. in an attempt to show the kids bluff, he helped him pack his bags.

So stop saying stupid things like, "His father should get charged" or "Why did he pack his bags" , because 1,999 times out of 2,000, the bluff is called correctly.

wow. took a terrible turn for the worse. Shouldn't put anyone at fault. The parents and the kid were angry, sometimes we do things we regret when we're angry. Just a part of life.

As for the "dad helped him pack his bags" angle. I mean c'mon, you know how it played out.
"I'll move out and take care of myself. I'm 15 years old, I don't need your rules."
"Oh you think you're a big man? Well I'll help you pack." - Of course, you wouldn't expect your kid to actually leave. I know I never did, not that ignorant.

I felt really bad until I read this on the Star (http://www.thestar.com/article/521731):

More than 20 times and they couldn't find a solution? PARENTS ARE TO BLAME 100% for their kids PROBLEM, but not his death - although, it was their responsibility to keep him safe so......

Its sad but this the problem isnt videogames...its an isolated problem and a very rare one.

You watch the US media jump on this and start calling for over 21 age restrictions etc etc

I want to know why this kid was playing an M rated game... M for Mature I don't think Dad or Son qualified in this instance.

However I do feel bad for the family, it's easy to say things in the heat of the moment that you cant take back, this situation ending in the most tragic way possible ...

Though I do personally feel the Dad is ultimately responsible, I know he Knows that and will have to live with that for the rest of his life and as a father myself I would have an impossible time of trying to move on. I hope Mr Crisp can forgive himself over time and not forget about his remaining family in the process.

My condolences.

I figured he would come back like most kids his age would. Get angry, run away from home, realization, come home, etc

His dad did encourage it and it was wrong of him but I highly doubt he would of ever thought something of this magnitude would happen.

I'm not trying to sound morbid but I am very curious in how and why he died. There is something much much more to this if you ask me.

My thoughts and prayers are with his family.

I wish more parents were a bit more pro-active about teaching their kids what is appropriate and inappropriate to play. I'm sure they could have taken away the game long before he got to his current state of addiction.. or.. for that matter.. waited a couple years till he was old enough to play it.

While I think that the parents did the right thing in helping him pack to scare him a bit (would scare me!), I don't think they should have let him leave the house. And if he did get that far, follow him or something for a bit before bringing him home.

Bottom line, he wasn't 18. That means that it's their responsibility to raise and discipline him. Would they be jerks in the kid's eyes if they kept him home and grounded him or something? Yes. But he'd still be alive. I'm SICK and tired of parents out there who are only concerned with being their kid's friend, not their parent!

Sometimes it's the parent's job to be the jerk. We don't know it then, but they are simply raising us. They honestly gave up on the kid. It's partially the kid's fault, yes... but if I did everything I wanted to do when I was a kid without my parents telling me what was good to do or not I'd probably be dead too now.
