Chatting with GamesIndustry.biz, developer Media Molecule (the creative geniuses behind the PS3 exclusive and overly charming Little Big Planet) admits that Sackboy and friends won't be gracing the Xbox 360 anytime soon, because it wouldn't be technically possible."We couldn't have made it on the Xbox 360 and the reason for that is actually because we designed it around the PS3's strengths" says the Media Molecule folks, explaining that they built Little Big Planet around the PS3's architecture, Blu-ray disc capacity and that "having a hard drive on every unit makes a difference." But they aren't entirely anti-360, admitting that the console is an "incredibly capable machine" that, theoretically, could be home to LBP, "but it'd be a different game." Ouch! And all along we were under the impression that LBP could eventually release to the Xbox Live Arcade way under the 150MB Arcade limit. We guess we were wrong ... ZING!

So you're saying it would be a GOOD game if on the 360? But not on PS3?
1. LBP takes out 40gigs of space. I doubt MM wants to compress it on multiple disc for the 360.
2. They built it ground up for the PS3 sorta like MGS4. Porting to the 360 isn't copy&pasting. It would take some time.
3. All PS3 units have HDD. LBP is attracting kids as well as adults and teens. The model 360 kids will most like receive this holiday The Xbox Arcade can't handle LittleBigPlanet. The average shopper wouldn't know.
Even if it was possible on 360, Sony still owns LBP Franchise now. It doesn't matter if its possible because it still won't EVER come to 360.
Thats like Cliffy B saying that Gears 2 is possible on the PS3. Ok its possible so what, it'll never happen anyway.
I don't see why people always doubt developers and get all mad and fanboyish. You wouldn't know. I don't care about the cpu, gpu, cell processors, and blu-ray power+4D that you read about on the computer.
Unless YOU'RE the one developing the game you really have no right to doubt these people

I love my 360 and play it every day I can tell you with out a doubt that the PS3 is gaining some market share and this is the one game that would make me get a PS3 but I will not. Even though I would like to get BLU-RAY and Home, Pain and that web browser. I still am not and will not be a more than one system guy ever again. XBOX 360 is the system that satisfies me most. Now get a damn Web browser with Flash and we are golden.
One last thing is the amount of lies and false info sony puts out really makes it hard for me to like them. They burnt me on that piece of crap ps2 they will not burn me again. Now this does not mean I will not go to my neighbors house and play me some LBP when it comes out.

Translation: Sony tries to reinvent the wheel every time they bring out a new game machine, and it's a big fucking pain in the ass to program for so ports can be trickier.
Of course it's "techincally possible," the power of the two machines is practically even. Sony knows they have their only other sure thing besides MGS4 so they are holding on to it. No big deal.
I couldn't care less about LBP but I don't have to be interested in it to know it's probably going to be very well done.

The community features would not work at all on Live
Without the community features (play, create, share) the game would be useless.

Thats even dumber than saying LBP isn't possible on the 360. You know that the 360 currently has other games that share user created content on Live, right? Halo 3, among others?

There's only 2 reasons to own a PS3 (which I do).. BluRay and FFXIII... wait.. make that one reason.
I agree with the poster that said it sounds like a thinly veiled fanboy flame. This is just an exclusive game defending it's exclusivity.
I'm still waiting for a PS3 game that truely could only have worked on the PS3. BTW.. I'm not holding my breath. I don't think it will come... I may be more powerful, but it's not so powerful where any gaming experience is only possible on it. We're talking small differences here. Plus with the 360 allowing HDD installs, there goes the disc-storage capacity complaints. ...
Oh and BTW.. higher bitrate FMV vs more compressed isn't something I see as a significant enough difference to base a purchasing decision on for a game. Games are supposed to be about gameplay.. you know, the interactive part.

Final Fantasy VsXIII is PS3 exclusive and the PSP is getting a FF13 exclusive too, so that joke doesn't work.
Also, good to know you know more than all the developers that have commented on the systems, makes me wonder why your sat reading this little website when you should be out there developing games seeing as you know so much about it.

guarantee you if they told the company "Go make this game for the 360." They could have done it.. There's no way we'll know though due to the fact that well.. it's exclusive.
And honestly.. there's no reason why it wouldn't work.
And do people even realize.. that multiple discs was never a problem, and the fact that blu-ray started the whole thing about how it's bad to have multiple discs, even though the blu-ray drive itself should be running a hell of a lot faster?

Sackboy seems pretty cool.. but there is no reason why it wouldn't work on 360.. they said MGS4 wouldn't work.. it's just repeated code (four times, with four installs!) to make up for the disc being slow, and reduce seek times on the disc..
The LBP tutorials must be in video form to take up all that space.. why not use the ingame engine if thats the case?
Just a theory - if the levels were 116MB in size (the size of Halo 3's Cold Storage map), than have another 59 levels at the same size, it weighs in at 6.96GB.. throw the game engine on 2 to 3GB - yeah it's over 8.5GB, but then repeated items wouldn't be needed - if you look up a map variant on Halo 3, it's only 116kb..
6 theme sets, 1 main file of 116mb, with 9 levels at 116kb is 703MB.. (I think bungie like 116.. :S )
(6x((116x9)+116000)=702264x6))
now its nowhere near 8.5 with the engine (yeah I know I geeked)
Only thing on PS3 that's even peaked my interest is Heavy Rain, LBP is overhyped to me.. no doubt we'll get a clone, like from the guys who did Small Arms on XBLA (sort of a Mario Smash Bros clone)
(Just a geeky thought.. as I watch my stars disappear)

Personally, I have no interest in LBP. No, I'm not "jealous" or whatever. I don't care for platformer/puzzle games. They aren't my thing. And the user generated content isn't a selling point for me. I wouldn't even pick this up if it was on Xbox.
I'm really wondering what all the PS3 fanboys are doing here. You have your own site, remember? The site where you can talk about how much Xbox sucks in a desperate attempt to justify paying so much for a console that is really no better (or worse) than Xbox.

I hate it when developers say that every unit has a hard drive is a good thing.
From the PS3 (I'm not saying the console itself it bad, they seem to be pretty much equal as the HDD comment seems to be the only one from developers these days) it seems to be a really negative thing due to games that require installations.
I don't want to be forced to install games on a console. HDD space should be for extra content and downloadable games.

Oh F'N please!!!! While I'm blasting the Locust Horde this winter, the PoS3 fagboys are going to busy putting together puzzles w/ sock puppets in Gay Little Planet. Xbox Live Arcade could run Little Gay Planet w/o breaking a sweat.

As a 360 owner who doesn't own a PS3 but has some technical knowlege of it's architecture, the comments made by the developer do not seem implausible.
Yes, in terms of overall power for gaming, the two machines are basically matched (although the 360 is easier to develop for). However, the PS3 does have a specific advantage in one kind of computing power: SIMD/Vector (i.e. flops). LBP's gameplay is very physics-oriented, and physics coding is not only easily paralellizable, but is based on SIMD code. Yes, Cell is a great physics processor, better than Xenon (I do not know Xenos's physics capabilities, however).
So yes, Media Molecule's comment does seem reasonable.
Not only that but the devs stated the Xbox 360 is a very capable machine and did not disparage it in any way. They simply said LBP caters to the specific strengths of the PS3. There is nothing fanboyish about this.
Yes, we can talk about the "but teh blu-ray!" factor, that MM probably didn't compress their content, etc, but that is irrelevant.
As for my stance on a PS3, the only games on it that interest me are MGS4 and Siren Blood Curse. LBP, whist it looks potentially very interesting, is not my kind of game.

You know what i think it is, I just think that alot of the Xbox 360 guys are abit sour. I mean I once remembered that Viva Pinata had alot of hype (Probably not as much as LBP), but it did have alot of hype, because it was seen as a fresh new game being braught to a console that revolves around games with guns (The most popular 360 exclusive games are gun-based games wether it be 3rd or 1st person) anyways, once Viva Pinata came out, it got turned out to be crap and overly hyped. Now I myself am looking forward to LittleBigPlanet, but the game has a chance of becoming an overly hyped game too. Thing is, is that I feel that alot of the 360 fanboys (If you own atleast 2 of the 3 consoles like me, you know you're not in that group), they feel like maybe this game might live up to it's hype and it might hurt them, becaue it could get the PS3 to sell even more.Again, keep in mind! This game might just turn ot to be a crappy game too, I hope it isn't but you never know. So people, stop being all pissy and whiny.
