Got a question for Ask X3F? Maybe you have a story or some information you'd like to share? Send it all to ask [at] xbox360fanboy [dot] com. No, seriously, send us some questions. We're desperate! We'll even take stupid questions (despite what your mother tells you, they do exist).
Wassup Xbox 360 fanboy
Great website i check it out everyday
I had a question
if you play Cod4 on 360 and you want to play someone who
plays it on PC could you invite them to a game or send them a friend request
i always thought it was possible if they play on the same server.
Thanks for the website great news hope you reply
Ricardo Gamertag: SPYDA BOII
Ricardo, punctuation is your friend. Anyway, the unfortunate answer is no. Unless a game is specifically designed to be played across the Xbox 360 and PC versions -- COD4 wasn't -- it's not possible. There are a handful of games that are set to support cross platform play though. One of them, Universe at War: Earth Assault, was released for 360 this week. Shadowrun supports cross platform play, too. A few upcoming titles including Lost Planet: Colonies and Huxley are set to support the feature as well.
Hey guys. I have 70 dollars and am looking into purchasing a new game. I really don't know what I want...
I have been looking at both dark sector and rainbow six vegas 2, and many others but cant come up with a suggestion.
What would you buy if you had the money. (Could be something you already have, that you really like)
Thanks, mcwattersm.
First of all, we capitalize game titles around here, mister. Still, your question is valid, so we canvassed the X3F staff for suggestions. Here you go:
Xav: $70 burning a hole in your pocket? That's easy! Grab a few points cards and wait for Ikaruga. Sure, it's only going to ring in at 800 MS points but you'll be plenty prepared for the upcoming barrage of awesomeness in SSFIITHDR, Bionic Commando: Rearmed, Schizoid and TiQal! Okay, the last one couldn't be a worse joke. If that ain't your bag I'd say invest in a copy of Rainbow Six Vegas 2. Dark Sector might not be your cup-o-tea.
Dustin: I'd go with RSV2 over Dark Sector simply due to longevity of the title's multiplayer being greater than Dark Sector's. Otherwise ... buy Halo 3 if you don't have it.
Richard (hey, that's me!): Rainbow Six Vegas 2 will likely last longer than Dark Sector, as it's the most likely to retain a loyal multiplayer following. Call of Duty 4 is excellent and has a Game of the Year Edition dropping next week, assuming you haven't picked it up already.
That's it for this week, folks. Keep sending your questions to: ask [at] xbox360fanboy [dawt] com.

Only two questions, what the crap guys? =o
Here's a bonus question for you, then: is it possible to hook my 360 up to my TV using a VGA cable and a VGA-to-DVI adapter, in order to upscale DVDs to the native resolution of my TV (1080i)? My TV does not have a VGA in, or an HDMI in for that matter, but it does have a DVI in. Thanks to anyone who can advise.

Neuromancer: don't quote me on this, but if you have a 360 with HDMI, I think you can use a HDMI-DVI cable, though you would need to get your sound elsewhere (since DVI doesn't carry sound signals). If your 360 doesn't have HDMI, you're going to have to go a different route. "DVI to VGA" adapters generally just pull the analog signal out of a DVI-I or DVI-A hookup (confused? look at the WP article on DVI) and put it on the correct pins for a D-sub ("VGA") connector. You would need some kind of box that transforms your analog VGA-cable signal into a digital signal that works on your TV's DVI input -- and good luck with that. You're more likely to find a VGA to Component converter (at least they're both analog to begin with), but even that would probably be more trouble than it's worth.
You *could* just do what I did -- buy a PS3 (they're not too expensive used, if you get a 20GB model), which upscales DVDs over every available output. Plus, you can't wind up stuck with one that doesn't support HDMI, like my 360...

I "asked" you guys, via tips, to run a poll on whether people would consider purchasing Xbox Originals they had achievements.
I know we had a similar poll but I want one that focuses specifically on achievements.
the answers-
1) I already buy them even though they lack achievements
2) I would buy them if they had achievements
3) I still wouldn't buy them

Thanks guys. I am going to probably get R6V2, if anyone I knows has it too. I already own Halo and CoD4, so...

yeah you can, cause the only way to upscale dvds is through HDMI or VGA, and it wont matter if you convert it to DVI

You can't have a home run every time at bat! Short and sweet isn't always bad either.
Now, why didn't Terrence weigh in on the game choice? Is that because there IS NO Terrence?!?

Which ranking system do you guys like better, COD4 or Halo 3? I enjoy COD 4 better because it rewards you for playing.

Vegas graphics != PS2 graphics (!= means doesn't equal, i'm being a loser)
I've just broke my 360 drive by dropping something heavy on the disc tray when it was open and now the motor goes up premature so tray wont close, can it be fixed without taking my 360 apart or will I have to get it a coffin with an extra sticky out bit?

I FIXED IT!
hurrah
I had to push a bit of plastic in the drive so that it wasn't connected to a cog until it was pushed in further, mostly scary mucking about inside my 360, but it seems to work without any side effects so woo!

Good idea for a poll. Here's my answer:
1. I already buy them w/o the achievements.

I reasked my question this time. I did send it earlier but hey ho.
Its regarding getting a repair done to an out of Warranty 360. MS ain't interested so I'm thinking either trying to find a UK based repair center or going to see what Uncle Sony has up his sleave.

Here's my question. Is there a 360 version which is not showing any signs of failure or put another way is there a version that does not fail?

hell, you could have answered my unanswered question from over a month ago...
although I suppose you dump that inbox weekly.
still want to know why all my zune subscriptions songs don't work over my internal network to my 360, or when my zune is connected directly to the 360. (different ones from each method, which just adds to the confusion).
same MSN ID attached to both my XBL and Zunepass, hell, same tag for that matter...
they share my points, why can't they share my songs?
(of course Xbox says it's zune, and zune says it's Xbox)
