They do it so you'll click in the link to the story, thus refreshing the ads on the site. That increases the number of adviews and generates revenue for the site. How do you think they keep this thing up, with duct tape and good intentions?
I just hope they actually pick someone who did what they asked for, there were a lot of idiots on the contest thread who didn't say what sea animal they like and why.
