Cool that would be really good. But I imagine that it would probably be expensive.

Check out here. You need to be a BT subscriber to use it in the UK - does that mean you have to be using BT broadband?

Microsoft is obviously making a huge mistake seeing as the guy at #11 already has all this stuff! Your wasting your time Microsoft, all #11 wants is a games console. Stop trying to make your product better, and for gods sake stop making it multi-functional.
You stupid prick.

This is kind of a fan boy comment, but without having a lot of the details on the proposed partnership, it's all I got:
Sony must be pissed that they're losing access to BT's tasty fiber networks. Katugari is probably very very glad he's out from under that ever shaky umbrella of Sony...
And to Niyx: Microsoft isn't in this to create games so they don't need to focus on games development. That's up to everyone else out there and MGS as an after thought.

1: BT is rolling out 21 meg lines across the UK..........wait for it......60% of the country covered by.....2012!!!!
2: BT are bastards! Terrible service, expensive, badly kept networks and 2012! For gods sake! I checked my local exchange for details and I'm lucky, I'm getting it in 2011.
3: Will I still be using a 360 in 2011 or will I be using a Xbox 720?

Toph, Europe is scheduled to have the XBLVM come to them this fall, at the same time as we are here in Canada. :D

hmmm, actually then I have no care for 360 IPTV in the UK. For now and most likely for the next half a decade, IPTV will be far too expensive and by the time it comes down to a reasonable price to pay for it all, there is bound to be something better in its place.
All I'm concerned about is what sort of stuff we'll be getting on the video marketplace when that launches and how expensive it will be.

IPTV isn't gonna make me switch back to BT from NTL (Virgin Media).
As long as the XBLVM comes to Europe then I don't mind at all.
IPTV is basically streaming TV over the net so you'll need a beast of a connection to have a good experience.
At least with the Video Marketplace I can use it whatever my connection speed is.
But surely this is a bad move for MS in the UK if they've locked themselves in to only one ISP.

BT are Evil? Got to make you laugh after all they provide the backbone for most ADSL providers in the UK today.
BT is probably the single largest provider of ADSL in the UK. As we all know the bigger you are the more people complain. Cable forms the second largest group after ADSL users. Then we probably have individual ADSL offerings from 3rd parties using a mix of BT and their own equipment.
IPTV can be streamed using a standard 8mb ADSL line in fact it works down a 2mb line. The BT Vision offering just uses Quality of Service to ensure it gets what it needs. That is not to say that if you lived closer to the exchange you would not benefit.
The only problem I foresee with BT Vision and Xbox 360 IPTV offerings is the contention ratios would quickly be overloaded.

The reason why the deal is with BT only (at the moment) isn't because of some cosy relationship. Its because BT is the only ISP in the UK that has IPTV Gateways and is the only ISP that can guarantee QoS (Quality of Service) end to end over its network.
No other ISP in the UK can. I'm positive you WILL need BT Broadband and the Homehub, the HomeHub is capable has QoS services and can priortise video and voice over data, which is needed for IPTV.
So don't moan at BT or Microsoft, moan at your own ISP to get their finger out.
@ophiuchus - There's nothing wrong with the Hub for Xbox live, it works fine. I have guides for it on my site http://www.xboxliveguide.co.uk
